Go to Target. I found shorts for Lisa that have elastic in the waistband that is adjustable. This was great for Lisa since she is built like a gymnast / dancer - tiny waist and large thighs. She wears a 7 for the legs, but probably a 5 for her waist. Good Luck.

Target is usually my first shopping choice now- since previous shopping "trips" (spanning months usually) ended up with everything purchased at Target anyway. Last summer/first of school year everything was from Target and all her jeans and shorts from Target were in the BOY'S section, believe it or not. She doesn't do well with just elastic waists because usually in order to get them big enough to not be tight on her butt and/or thighs- the elastic waist is still too big even though it's elastic. She really has athletic thighs (the butt she gets from me LOL) but has such a flat stomach it's ridiculous. Much like you said- a build like a gymnast/dancer but also it's part of going thru puberty-- she already had a flat stomach and now her waist is getting more shapely too (going in). *sigh* Next year in middle school they are required to wear school dress code including polo shirts tucked in and pants must have a belt- she'll do fine then I guess- she can cinch up anything with the belt. LOL
She does best with the jeans/shorts that they have at Target that have the adjustable waists (as you mentioned)- but I'm not sure they make those in larger sizes. We'll have to see.

Unfortunately the problem I'm running into is that she's out of the more popular children's sizes. Now she's in the 12/14 range now (according to her butt, thighs and length of pants/jeans) - she was in size 8 for so long and then zoomed right thru size 10 rather quickly. I'll have to see if they have the larger sizes made with adjustable waists like that- I certainly hope so or I'm in a world of hurt finding her anything to wear, not just for the cruise but period! She can still fit in her size 10 boys jeans but they are getting slightly on the short side. The only reason I'm not buying her more jeans right now is that we're pretty warm here now and already wearing shorts- and who knows how much she'd grow before next year starts again. Everything else (pants, skirts, and shorts) she wears size 12 mostly... with the waist usually too big for her when everywhere else fits without being tight. She's really more difficult to buy for than myself and that's really saying something. LOL Thank goodness the other two are a breeze to buy for- don't even have to try things on!

It's amazing how much room the pictures can take up on a card. I prefer RAW or Nikon NEF files, but they are huge. On the D200, the uncompressed NEF file is about 16MB. So on trips like this I just shoot JPEG high or fine. It does work well. If there is something that I think needs more, the file type will be changed for those pics and then back to the JPEG.

Do an experiment and change the file format and watch the number of available space change, then decide what might meet your needs. I'm carrying three cards with a total of 8GB and have the option of transferring files to my iPod too.

I will have a laptop with card reader and CD burner if anyone needs it. Another option is a "digital wallet". I used to have one, but it died when dropped :confused3

Old Navy carries a pretty large line of adjustable waistband clothing for kids. And now, this year, Lands' End is too. (can't remember if LLBean is too, but could be)

A few years ago I complained to Lands' End and LLBean that they didn't have anything in slim (well, Lands' End did, but it was old raggedy jeans)....the both wrote back and said "with the childhood obesity problem, we don't sell enough slim clothes to make it worthwhile....but check out our extensive plus size selections."

Well, DUH....if the REGULAR clothes don't fit my skinny-minnie, I don't think the plus sized clothes are an option!!

Wow, that response totally doesn't make sense! I agree with you- big duh there!
And how nice that since there is a childhood obesity problem let's only make clothing to fit obese children- if you aren't obese, you're just SOL? Can you imagine if adult clothing was this way- ONLY plus sized clothes and everyone else can just forget it because it's not worthwhile? I assure you that the obesity problem isn't limited to children, it's adults too, and yet they still make clothing in non-plus sizes for adults. Granted they may be in limited supply- but atleast they are available. How rude to give you a response like smaller sizes aren't worthwhile but suggest you try the plus sizes- as if that would help. I wonder if that was some automated message? Or if someone who is really answering their customer service issues is really that dumb. Sorry we don't have clothes small enough for your child, not worthwhile to do so- but please check out our extensive plus sized clothes? Whatever. LOL

Great day to stay at home! With the exception of the fact that it was because Erin didn't feel well (she seems to be fine now, of course - she's not one of those kids who's down for the count when she gets an ear infection), it's been a great day. First the man in brown dropped off my CRUISE DOCS :cool1::cool1::cool1: (so now I can go with Jim and Erin, whose docs came 10 days ago). Then the man in black and purple stopped by with our t-shirts!!!

It's a very good day indeed! Not only do I NOT have to buy the drinks, but I'll be stylish when I'm drinking them!

Thank you so much for the links, unfortunately I absolutely MUST have her try things on. I have learned my lesson countless times buying clothing I thought for sure would fit her, even with adjustable waists, and sure enough they didn't and I'd have to return them. I guess I need to try to find a Land's end or LL Bean's store around here. The closest thing we have is 30min away and it's an outlet store- I believe they have both those stores there but being an outlet store I'm not sure they'd have the same items. I may have to drive to the nearest big malls which are an hour's drive each way- which is fine for me but difficult to find the time to drive that much and have the time after she's out of school to take her with me- what with all her after school activities and such. Weekends are busy with soccer games, birthday parties, church and such. There lies my problem. I have all the time in the world to shop during the day without her while the kids are in school- but WITH HER, as is needed to find things that fit her, is difficult. :(

KT really needs to try things on too....
so this year I bought her Lands' End and LLBean stuff in 2 or 3 different sizes. Then, at home, she tried them on. The Lands' End stuff I returned to Sears. The LLBean stuff I ship back in one priority mail box.

The LLBean store in VA is really cool, but not close enough to go to! Probably a good thing!

I know, but I knew it because I'm psycho......

The DH found out that XMen comes out the same weekend we sail. Do you think they premire it on board? :confused3

I feel your aggravation. My DD is skinny and tall. She needs at least an 8/10 for length but she fits a 5/6 waist. And most stores carry a WAY too limited selection of slims. And IF they have slims, they don't carry much that is "kid-appropriate" to me. (I'm so picky about this.) :teeth:

I hear ya there. Words across the butt just do NOT fly with us here. WHY does anyone want to encourage hormonal boys to look at girls' butts? :confused3 We've been striking out getting a good swim suit for KT (as a second swim suit)...we like the tankini style so it's easy to go to the bathroom, but like it to cover a good bit of skin. FINALLY we found one that FIT at Children's place but the top is a bit shorter than she's used to....more of a halter top than a full tankini. No where near a bikini though!! She feels a bit odd in it since her belly is hanging out. She's used to having all that covered....and that's fine with me!!!

is it a disney movie? or touchtone? or any of those others that are owned by disney?

if not, it won't be premeiring on the cruise to the best of my knowledge.

XMen3 is 20th Century Fox. So i guess it means it won't be on board. the dh will be very bummed.

I have the same problem with Ashley and she is so tall to boot. I usually could find something at Ltd. 2 to fit, but now anymore. If it does fit, it is in a size 7 or 8 and then they are too short. Good thing bermuda shorts are popular, because those in a size 7 or 8 are about right.

Karen, I am the same way- picky about her not wearing "grown up" looking clothes. Besides, next year they have very strict dress code (basically uniform- including no capris, no shorts, pants must be certain length and all one color- can't have any designs, plaids, different colors- jeans can't even be 2 faded jeans color/etc. So she'll have to wear just plain jeans which she usually does- usually the boys ones.

Are you saying you purchased them online and returned to Sears? (the land's end stuff) Even sears is an hour's drive away- might as well go straight to a land's end store if there is one available in the dallas/arlington area where sears is. I'm not into shipping things and paying shipping to me and then to return... I'd be out a fortune doing that considering how many things do not fit her unless she tries them on first. Honestly I really can't figure out WHY she's so hard to get things that fit her- but she is. :(
