Is there a 4th of July Menu? What ship and what was the menu. I have foods that make me sick and when ever I eat a Parrot Cay/Carioca's. I end up with just broiled chicken and French fries. Uck. They just can't offer much that is not pre-made without onion's somewhere in the dish. This year if I cant find a way to make my rotation miss those meals I plan to eat at the buffet. But then the rest of my family will miss the nicer dinner or I will sit (again) in silence and suffer with a bland chicken. the head waiter knew and gave me a menu the day before but only offered sauce or no sauce. No substitutes.

I just have been thinking about this for 13 months and in 5 more months we sail.

I really Really HOPE.

One note - dinner in the "buffet" is a sit down table service that has a menu of selected items from the other dining room menus. So you won't really be avoiding whatever is offered on any given night. Have you ever had the "no onions" placed on your reservation? They can't create special meals without prior notification that they need to.

You can also get the main dishes without sauces and various sides.

I've ordered just grilled salmon, there's also broiled steak. For sides you can get a baked potato, steamed veggies, fresh fruit, their Mac-n-cheese is awesome. You can totally make it work but just call DCL now and take @PrincessShmoo advice and let them know about an onion problem, you'll be in great shape. Enjoy your cruise.

Won't it be the first night of the cruise? Won't that mean it'll be the standard rotation? We didn't have a 4th of July themed dinner when we were on the Wonder this past summer on the 4th. It was the taste of Alaska theme that day.

I suggest talking to the head server as soon as you can on your first day. It's important that they know what you cannot eat and the sooner they know, the easier it is for them to make it. My husband who is allergic to gluten and corn developed a sensitivity to nightshades. He talked to the head server about it and while the serving team seemed a bit stressed (as he cannot eat any normal meal they serve), they were able to throw something together for him and he was very happy.

Yes I did that in 2010, 2014, 2015. They gave me a menu in 2014, 2015 the day before so I could make an advance selection. So say a chicken option was offered but it had a relish that had onions. I got just chicken...... no butter, no lemon just a chicken breast.

Yes that was so boring though. It felt so all or nothing. Emphasis on the nothing.

I did enjoy the samon. I actually had it 4 meals out of 7 days. I was so happy when it was lobster day, I needed a change.

So I'm thinking, ....offer my head server or whom a little financial bribe early? My server made sure on my 2010 cruise that I would get my meals with flavor. But then that ship sailed. Then I was left with plain chicken, (Castaway Cay was very dry, tough, plain chicken.) That's why I want to know what will happen on 4th of July. It's kind of a chicken and burger holiday. Weird how I remember that chicken, kind of want to forget about it though.

I don't think DCL will have a 4th of July dinner. Many many passengers are not from the USA.

I didn't think of it that way. But Disney is an American company, and the destination is Alaska. I would think it would still be a holiday.

Disney is an american company, but the ship is foreign-flagged (Bahamas).

Yes but the Bahamas is not a Christian country that believes in Saints. So if it was because of the "Bahamas Flag" that keeps them from celebrating the 4th of July, That would also leave out the Very Scary.... and Very Merry.... party's.

I'm just saying - the Disney ships are not "American". They cater to all sorts of countries/nationalities. Halloween is more internationally celebrated than 4th of July.

We were in Iceland this past 4th of July and actually missed the MDR as we overnighted there on the 4th and did an excursion that led into the night. I don't think they had a special menu for the 4th of July but I can't confirm that.

DCL did have several red, white, and blue items in Cabanas. They did pancakes in different colors (like the blue was colored and blueberries added) and at lunch they had this big flag cake and sadly it was just for decoration, lol. The characters dressed up and there were a few other small touches around the ship.

Definitely let the Head Server know your concerns as that's what he/she is there for and wants you happy and pleased with your food. They are even happy to make you things not on the menu especially if you let them know ahead of time :)

I was also on the Iceland cruise. I recall that they offered a special 4th of July "cookout" during lunch on deck, although my friends and I had been too full from Palo brunch to partake.

The dinner menu was Pixar, however, I thought I remembered there being a little menu supplement themed to 4th of July. I've sailed over July 4th a couple of other times before (both Europe -- 2010 and 2007) and those times there was definitely a special July 4th menu in the dining room.

Side note -- on July 1 on all three cruises, Canada Day was acknowledged with a little celebration in one of the lounges (Promenade Lounge on the Iceland cruise).

Yes but the Bahamas is not a Christian country that believes in Saints.
The Bahamas is an ex-British territory, and the dominant religion is Protestant Christianity.

As to the original question, we have sailed DCL in Alaska on July 4th, and I don't recall any special menu. There was a little patriotic gathering in the atrium with the characters in red, white and blue outfits. No fireworks.

Back in 2007 DCL offered a Fourth of July special menu and champagne, one glass free at dinner, along with plastic commemorative flutes (another thing that is absent now). Let's just say that the DCL chefs' recreation of traditional American fare left lots to be desired. My whole table wanted to go back there and teach them how to do a proper fried chicken, lol. Ribs, not fall off the bone, and I cannot remember the third thing that was served. It was fun, but the DCL cooks did not have the finesse to pull it off at the time.

I have an intolerance to bell peppers, DCL chefs LOVE to put those in everything, even in salsa, bell peppers do not belong in salsa. SMH. Anyway, it is noted on my reservation so that I can see the menu the night before if I want and choose something, I have had special meals made for me, no bribes, just prior knowledge. It was pretty hard on this last cruise to eat anything on the buffet. I noted that just because one can does not mean one should put bell peppers in ALL the dishes on the buffet. If all else failed, I would get something with shrimp, since I love shrimp and the servers would always manage to procure me something with shrimp. Just ask nice, ask for something a bit extra. Onions are a hard one, but I bet the kids menu would not have as many onions in things.

I seem to recall that there were two menus in the MDR that night, as well. They had their Pixar themed menu but there was also a separate 4th of July menu as well that you could order from. I don't remember what was on it, though. They also had an activity where you could make 4th of July themed items during the day. Here is a copy of the Navigator from that day (thanks, Scot!) http://disneycruiselineblog.com/wp-...s-Magic-11N-Repo-Day-6-Reykjavik-20150704.pdf

It wasn't over the top - "yeah it's 4th of July!!", but they did recognize the fact that it was occurring.

Keep in mind.... July 4, 2016 is a debarkation/embarkation day. Are you looking at breakfast or dinner?

Here's one that bugged me a little.

I retract my quick reply, I think now you are pointing out to me some stuff that has been happening on the boards, if you read my initial reply, I apologize, it was weird being quoted in a thread I never posted in. And you are right, a menu discussion that should have been answered by past 4th cruisers turned left quickly.

cheers
