Cast- Myself, 30 & DH 33
This was our second Disney Cruise, but our first without the kids.
After a wonderful day in WDW(trip report on that trip report board), we started the 4th of July with breakfast at the Kona Cafe. After breakfast and packing up it was on to the Great Ceremonial House of the Polynesian Resort to meet up with our Tiffany Town Car driver at 9:45am.
About 1 hour later at 10:45 we arrived at the port. The check in lines were very short at the time and although we started in the Castaway Club check in, people in front of us had a problem so we ended up in the regular line. After check in we found some other Disers(Barb & Tony & Disneyholic Family) while in the terminal and we chatted with them. We took some pictures, called home one last time before boarding and then got into the very long boarding line(it grew very fast!) around 12:00. The line began moving at 12:15 and we were on board at 12:25. It moved fast too!
Still full from breakfast we had no interest in the buffet. We went directly to our stateroom, 5522, to see if we could get in so early. All the doors in the area were open and we found our stateroom host Emer. We then did our introductions, he had us sign for our Castaway Club gifts(towel & pins) and he told us we could go in the room. First thing I did was run to check out the secret porthole.
The view was great, very little obstruction at all. After a little unpacking it was off to Wavebands to book Palos, something we didnt do on our last cruise. Being the psychotic planner I am we were the first ones in line at 1:00pm when the navigator stated that reservations didnt start until 1:30. But more people arrived shortly and they actually started at 1:15. We got just what we wanted, Friday at 8:00pm.
Business was taken care of, now we could relax, so it was up to deck 9 for a drink of the day, "Stars & Stripes"(strawberry daquari, pina colada and blue curaco...Yum! ). We also had some room now so we tried the chicken fingers and sauce I had heard so much about at Plutos. They were very good as were the fries and coleslaw. By 2:00 we wandered up to ESPN, another place we had missed on our last trip. There we found self serve nachos & hotdogs. We tried a few nachos, which were good, before heading back to our room to finish unpacking.
After a few announcements about the Life Boat Drill, we headed to our station around 3:55. While I thought it actually started at 4:00, we were one of the last people arriving.
That was over by 4:15, then we returned our vests to our room before heading to the sail away party. It was sprinkling and lightning out so the party had to be held in the atrium. At first I was disappointed, but onced we arrived in the atrium, it didnt matter. Along with the characters and music there was also a balloon drop. Tons of red white and blue ballons, some containing prizes, fell to the floor. All the kids were frantically popping them trying to win something. As the popping sounded, "Celebration" started playing....very cool send off! We then took a walk around deck 10 hoping to catch the ships horn on video tape. We got it!
We then returned to our room to get ready for dinner. We were ready early so we went and caught some of Mickey Mania. This was a cute game show with a very catchy song...that I still sing!
Next it was on to Tritons for our first dinner. Our Servers were Howard and Jackie and our Head Server was Kapoor. All very nice, however, only eating with them twice, I didnt feel we became very close to them like some people report. We thought we had gotten a table for ourselves, like we had requested, but around 8:45 our tablemates showed up. Neither had brought a watch with them and unfortuantely the 2 times we ate with them, they were late. We ended up sitting waiting for them to catch up with us, when we wanted to eat quickly and be off doing other stuff. We then went back to our room and changed for the 70s party. This was hysterical! The hostess of the show really does a great job. Shes very quick with the one liners. And of course the "contestants" picked for the lip sync/dance contest can make or break the show. Ours definitely made it!
By 11:30 we headed over to the late show of Dueling Pianos. This show was also a lot of fun. It wasnt very "Disney", but being adults only, thats ok. We found it very funny, and it was here I found my new favorite drink, the Kaluah Colada. Mmmmmm
The show ended at 12:30 and so did our night. It had been a long but Wonderful day. We were having a blast!
