Just realizing a flight change with American has turned my 1 hour 20 min layover into a 45 min layover in Philadelphia. I tried to call to change it. Unfortunately, the options they had to change to had 3 hour layovers or really inconvenient times. I have done 3 hour layovers - not fun with kids. Does a 45 min layover in Philly seem doable provided the 1st plane is on time? I know it is a legal connection time, but it does make me nervous.
(The flights home had been changed too. They did accommodate us and found better options for those.)
Anyway, thanks in advance!

Easily doable, although I recommend checking your luggage. Remember, with assigned seats you don’t have to line up early, and without carryon luggage, you don’t have to be early and fight for overhead space.

Is this a domestic flight or are you arriving into the US from another country and have to go through customs/security again?

45 minutes will be tight, but doable if your first flight is on time and this is a US to US flight. If you are arriving there from outside the US, then you will be hard pressed to clear customs and make your next flight in 45 minutes.

US flight luckily.

Good point. Thank you. We do have assigned seats. We are only planning on doing carry ons bc I plan to do laundry at the condo we are renting. If they force me to check it for the 2nd flight bc there isn't enough overhead space then at least it'll be free to check it. Glad to hear it is doable.

American Flights fly into at least two terminals at PHL. I had a schedule change that gave us a 42 minute layover (with 2 small child and my mom). We opted for the 3 hour layover because we'd likely have to switch terminals and 42 minutes was waaaay to close for comfort for us.

Yeah, we will be with 7 and 9 year olds and my parents (They are 70, but fit). None of the other adults I'm with want to do the 3 hour, but also bc the times those left and arrived really stunk too. I guess they'd rather run through the airport - lol. Idk what to do.

Interesting. I would have said the opposite - I would be worried that my checked bags wouldn't make the connection if my first flight is late. So I would take carry-on bags with enough in them in case my checked bags didn't arrive until the next day.

Have you gone through the entire flight schedule to find custom combinations of flghts, possibly connecting through a different city?

If you do not feel comfortable running through the airport then try to reschedule the flights your way.

Obviously anything can happen but you’ll most likely be fine. I would choose the 45 minutes over 3 hours any day. Just make sure you’re ready to go. No bathroom or food stops. Maybe assign family to get luggage while you take the kids. Plan to just go and meet at the next gate.

No, I didn't. I just called and they told me there were 2 options - both with long layovers (on top of long layovers - one was leaving super early am and the other option didn't land until super late pm). So, if I look through their schedule, I can call and ask to change to a specific flight plan? That is a good idea! Will they do that though?

Since the change is less than 90 minutes, you can change into seats in the same fare class on the same day through a different city....at least as of last year.

I'm going to check it out. Thanks. I would even feel better with an hour connection instead of 45 minutes.
