40-something going to college?

And I'm not sure if I ought to go for the full 12 hours or maybe try 9. I work part-time, but I do have kids in high school....

I'd do the 9 for the first semester, especially with A&P. You'll stress yourself less and I think you'll also have more time to study and get those A's if you start with 9. Just my two cents!

Congrats on going back to school! It'll be a great adventure!

Well, I'm on my way! Or started the process at least... I filed my FAFSA, and have received the results for that. Applied to the college (junior college), and talked to a guidance counselor today. Registration starts the
15th (boy, timed that just right, didn't I?), and I'll start classes in January. I'm trying to get into the Radiography Technician program, so I have to take Anatomy/Physiology. The counselor told me that it is a REALLY tough class, and that I really need an A if I want to get into the program. My brain has turned into mush over the last 5 years as my job has become more and more automated. I'm hoping that taking this one right off the bat isn't a mistake. Hooray! Congrats on getting those first steps done.

I took this quarter off because my current school is just too expensive and I got socked with taxes with my tuition reimbursement. So now I am thinking of transferring again to an online program at CUNY. Then I may be able supplement with in-class courses as well. We'll see. Hope to start back up in January.

Definitely don't push it with too many classes at first until you get a hang of things. And we are all here to support you along your educational journey. :)

Glad to hear you are starting soon. :cool1:

I had posted back on page 2 that I was just starting, well I am about to finish my first semester at ITT Tech. It's been wonderful. I can't wait to start my second semester. (WOW never thought I would hear myself say that!) :rotfl2:

You will do great!!

I am a college prof who was lucky enough to get through school pre child/marriage. But, my mom finished her degree when I was 14! I have to admit, I LOVE having older students in my classes. As a group, they are better students, harder workers, and have a maturity and life experiences that really add to classroom discussions. Years ago I taught the evening courses because these courses were designed for the "mature" student! Unfortunately, budget cuts took that program away....but I still love my "returning" students!

Go for that degree. You are never to old to finish. My grandmother graduated high school at age 76....and walked through ceremonies at her old high school with the kids....SHE got the standing ovation. My mom earned her degree when she was in her late 50's.....and set an incredible example about the importance of education. As a result, all of her kids have at least a BA and some of didn't know when to quit and got our PhD's. Remember, you can lose a job, lose a house, lose a car, lose "things",but you can NEVER lose your education!!!!!!

YEA!!! Fantastic! Can't wait to be where you are: a finished semester under my belt.

The mental part is killing me right now: I can't do this, this is going to be too hard, my family will suffer if I'm gone or studying all the time, etc, etc, etc... I have a really bad habit of not trying something because I'm afraid of failure. Perfectionism at its worst.

Yes, I can defnitely say that I'll be taking things much more seriously now than I would have when I was 18. I plan on being the curve-buster! :thumbsup2

You can do it! I am 33, married, mom to 2, and work PT and a full-time student! Good luck!
