4/25/09 Magic - First Visit To Tortola!

Hoosiercruiser, I grew up in Carmi, Illinois about 45 miles from Evansville. I live and work in Japan now. Are there any Japanese people lurking on the boards? We speak Japanese if you want to give a shout.

Sorry, it's taken me a while to respond to you. I did lots of reading this morning to checkup on this board. Richard, I'm not real familiar with that part of Indiana. We've driven though it, but that's about it. Sounds like other people on the board are.

I'm also new to the board in general, so maybe someone else might know if there are more Japanese people on board. I would like to hear more about your life in Japan with your family.

Ditto!

The nice thing at work is that spring break around here is this week and next week in NC and most of my northeast co-workers are off the week after that.... so its been a bit slower than normal. When we are on our cruise work will be back at full force and I won't be there. woo hoo!

Curious... for those with kids... is this the real spring break for anyone? It's 2 weeks after ours and I thought it was past most others.

Our spring break was last week.

All of us on subsequent Tortola cruises are anxiously awaiting your adventure! PLEASE everyone check in when you get back and fill us in on your excursions. Will anyone be doing a LIVE trip report from the ship?

I'll be interested in hearing about the dolphin swims and some of my family is looking at the catamaran snorkel & swim.

Everyone have a wonderful and safe trip!

.

Hello all... I will be on the May 23rd cruise to Tortola....and since you are the first group to go... I was hoping someone could help me out...we are thinking of doing the Island drive and beach break or the Forest and beach is anyone going to do either of these and if so could you please let me know when you get back about them..you could PM me that would be great thanks in advance...Renee

We are looking into a island/beach tour in St. Thomas- Sunny Liston- anyone ever heard of this company- gets some great reviews!

We booked the catamaran beach and sail through disney for Tortola:thumbsup2

Just ordered some cruise baskets from Shirley for my girls!!!

can someone help with a question. I posted on the main board but no one has replied yet and it is one of those need to know before I buy questions.

Since Coca Cola products are served on the ship does anyone know if PowerAde is avaiable?

I really can't decide on excursions:confused3 I've never been to either of the ports. I know we will be going to Tortola again in 2010. The Island Drive/Beach Break or the Forest Beach look pretty good, I'll probably book one of those.

I have no clue on what is best to do in St. Thomas. I better get busy on it.

Thanks for reminding me about Shirley. She did baskets for us on the last trip. :thumbsup2 They were in our stateroom when we arrived and the girls loved them.

Hi all, I'm loving all the chatter on the boards. I was hoping we would get to 1000 posts on our thread. I think we will make it. :cool1::cool1::cool1:

Here in Louisiana, the college kids are on spring break this week and the school kids are having spring break next week. That means two weeks of not as much traffic for me :worship::worship:

Am I correct: If I decide that I can't do without my Dr. Pepper for the week we'll be gone, I would need to put whatever I bring in my carry on the ship luggage?
And: Since Disney sent only two luggage tags, does that mean we can only check two bags at the port? I had thought we might bring three with us. Or can I check the third bag at the port when we get there? We are not doing any Disney transportation.

Hummmmm - things to think about ........

Our kids are on spring break right now. They will be missing 6 days of school to go on the cruise.

As to the tags....they will have additional tags at port. You can check in as many bags as you like. We were a party of 4 and checked everything at port...all 12 bags when you counted up the carryons, costumes, FE gifts, formal clothing and the misc. that we had picked up here and there! I'm travelling lighter this time:rotfl2: In all fairness to myself, we were travelling for more than 3 weeks last time, picking up stuff along the way and we had to pack winter and summer clothing. I ended up UPSing before we flew home!:rotfl:

We brought our beverages in a soft sided rolling cooler because I didn't want to have to carry it around before they opened the staterooms up...they checked that also. I got one that is small enough to fit in the overhead on our flight and put travel stuff in it. Before we went to the ship, I transferred the travel stuff to a suitcase, made a beverage stop and put beverages in beverage cooler and took it to port. The beverage cooler bag makes a nice carryon:thumbsup2

During our last cruise, we joined a DIS meet as well and everyone sent the organizer a family photo and she sent it out to the group before the cruise so we knew who we would look for when we board and we'd say hello and chat before we got to the actual meet up. Do you guys want to do this? I know there are a few people that have a picture in their avator but thought a bigger picture would be a neat idea.

If you are interested in doing this email me (lkw103@yahoo.com) a picture. Include your screen name and the names of the people in the picture. I will put all the pictures together and send them out to everyone.

Lisa

Don't forget to send your pictures to me.

I think our 1000th poster should do a dance:woohoo:

My kids are grown but they usually have spring break this week. My duaghter teaches in NC around Charlotte. They are on break this week and next.

Our shore excursions are all through DCL. St Thomas - St John Trunk Bay beach and snorkel. Last time I went they had another type of excursion to Trunk Bay but that one is gone now. I love that beach. In the afternoon we'll probably take a bus/jitney into town and walk around. In Tortola it's the Jost Van **** Beach Day and Castaway Cay is the Walking and Kayak Nature Adventure. We tried to do that years back but it started to pour during our walk so hopefully we can finish it this time :yay: We'll either relax on the beach after that or rent a bike. I've snorkeled there before and also did the sting ray adventure which I loved.

Have a great day -- this is all really becoming a reality - :cheer2:

Linda: Thanks for the information. Last cruise (5 years ago) we had some beverages and I put them in a canvas bag and I remember the guy at the port taking them. I'll probably bring at least a few with me. DH drinks Cokes so he'll be taken care of.

We have excursions planned for each stop: Tortola is the X-BOB Underwater Scooter; St. Thomas the St. Thomas Island Tour; and CC Personal Watercraft Eco Tour (waverunner). Don't know what we'll do in the afternoons at Tortola and St. Thomas. I'm sure we'll find something interesting to do.

Off to watch LSU play baseball!

Lisa, I have pasted an earlier post of mine below - can you just use that picture? I am using my laptop and I don't have any other pictures on here right now. Let me know - if you still need me to email one to you I can from our desktop or from work tomorrow! Thanks!

Hey, I'm dancing with you!
:woohoo::banana::cool1::woohoo::banana::cool1:

Now if we could just get our cabin assignment, I will really be dancing!!! (I guess that's the price we pay for having a CM booking - I'm not really complaining though, the savings make up for the extra wait! I just hope we find out soon!)

Hope everyone is doing well! We are going to pull out one of the suitcases this weekend and start throwing things in that we don't want to forget! I've gotta get started on those magnets too (thanks for the larger version of the logo, Rebecca)!

Edited to add a photo of us from our 4 night Wonder cruise last year:

I just love the look Cap'n Jack is giving DH!!! LOL! :rotfl:

Oh, and I want to reply to the Excursions question! We have decided to do the following:

Tortola: Tour to Virgin Gorda
St. Thomas: Captain Nautica's Snorkeling Adventure & Skyride to Paradise Point
Castaway Cay: Castaway Cay Bottom Fishing

16 Days to Go!!! :cool1::banana::woohoo::yay:

Hello fellow cruisers!

My how time flies. We will be joining you on our first cruise, celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. We're a family of three, my 3yo daughter Qiana (key-ah-gnaw) me, Richard and my wife Sanae (Saw-gnaw-eh). We will be staying in cabin 6134 and look forward to meeting lots of folks.

It took me three days to read through all the posts and regret that we missed out on the official FE activities. We did purchase an FE so if any of the smaller kids want to do an extra exchange with our three year old, we might be able to find some small things to bring with us from Japan. Just let me know.

We got our info from Disney last week and I had a question. Do the suggested tipping prices apply to children as well? I haven't read through any of the info Disney sent other than the easily scanable bold print stuff...

Also, if extra bracelets are ordered, we could take two adult and one child's. Will be back with more questions when I have more time. Gotta start thinking about packing pretty soon...:cloud9:

Welcome!!!! We will be happy to add you little one to the FE !

Hey Diane!

I looked on the Navigators from last trip, and I don't see anything about any fitness classes. You said you were going to try to get up for 7 am?:rolleyes1:rotfl::lmao:

So on that note, anyone up for meeting around 7 am to walk around the ship? There is a deck that goes around the entire ship for people that are runners/walkers. I do not do this on a regular basis at all, but I cannot sleep in and did this walk for most of the trip. Forget what deck it is on.

Michelle,

I was able to use the picture you had posted.

The "track" is Deck 4! From some of the pictures I've seen around here when you're in the bow of the ship you can see all the anchor chains and ropes, etc. Supposed to be pretty neat! Depending on the time on shore days parts of the track might be closed when they are docking etc.

I'm not an early riser, but will probably be on the track throughout the cruise.

For those that do run, there's supposed to be a Castaway 5k on Castaway Cay around 9:00 or 9:30. Very informal and from reports I've read, they have a guide that keeps up wtih everyone and they provide water and a towel for the runner. Fun way to see the island.
