4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

Julie, glad to see you back! Hope you all get better soon. Love the photo

Jeanne, jealous once again of all those who get to visit any of the Disney parks! Thank you also for sharing all the book titles! I haven't got anything fancy, just general non-fiction type books full of facts and pictures on sale.

Stephanie, thank you for sharing your beautiful creations with us. I love them! The journal pages will be great for the kids.

Bec, hope you get your docs soon! We got our OBC letter about 4 months after everyone else!!!

Will read through soon. Just wanted to say howdy, we're back, and we're all sick.

But here's a picture of us on camels, after spending the night in the Sahara outside of the town of Merzouga.

Wow! Glad you are back, sorry all are sick! Can't wait to hear more details and meet you all :)

Hello,

Brooklyn thank you so much for the journal. I was starting to think of putting something together for my son. You are much more creative than I am so thank you for the great journal. I just printed it out so I'm off to the store tonight to get a binder.

LuAnne

I made this journal for Brooklyn for the trip.

Med Journal

Back2Back

If you would like to use these please note that it is made to be printed back 2 back. So basically print odds then load the printer again and print evens.

It is made to fit in a 5.5 x 8.5 binder. Here is a link to the binders but they can be bought at Staples... binder

It can also be bound in other ways.

If you would like the original PDF to be emailed to ensure proper printing instead of printing through google docs just send me a PM.
Thanks Stephanie! Those are great!

Welcome home Julie, Sadie and Sigurd! Awesome photo - can't wait to see more :) Glad to hear you had a fantastic time - sorry to hear you are all sick - get better soon!

I was notified by the Moderator that someone complained about my putting people's room numbers in posts. :sad1: So I figured I should take it off the website too. I was saddened that they felt they couldn't just ask me/remind me not to put it in my posts.

I'll PM you with the appropriate info.
I guess I can understand where someone doesn't want their info. visible to people who don't need to know. But, I agree with you about contacting you personally - but that's JMHO :) Thanks so much for PMing the info -- you're right I hadn't written it down - I was just gonna print it out when the time came. Thanks so much for keeping everything organized!!

I'm sorry, I'm feeling incredibly lazy and still sick. Could all the new cruisers (anyone in the last three weeks) repost names, and whatever y'all want to appear in the roll call? Thanks so much.

And welcome aboard, shipmates.

Hi back on the boards and saw the journal made by Brooklyn - do you mind if i print it for my children - usually buy something for them to write in on vacations but this looks great.

Got our fish extender today from Gradys mom on Ebay - absolutely great - wish I was able to this myself but worth the money even with international shipping. Kids are all excited and we're going to get fish extender gifts this weekend. Are people giving one per room?

Love reading everyones posts - makes it ll the more exciting - with everyones planning. Just need to figure out how to reply with quotes, having only just mastered posting at all.

Hi everyone! I was wondering if there would be a set limit for currency exchange onboard and I emailed to find out. Here's the reply:

Dear Tammy,

Thank you for your e-mail.

I would be happy to assist with currency exchange onboard the ship.

Although, Guests are able to cash personal checks drawn from U.S. banks
only up to $100.00 per checking account, per voyage onboard at the Guest
Services desk, there are no limits set for currency exchange.

Currency exchange is available at Guest Services. During the
Mediterranean sailings, the currencies listed below can be exchanged to
Euros.

The following types of currency can be exchanged onboard:

Dollar (Australia, Canada, Cayman, Hong Kong, United States)
Franc (Switzerland)
Kroner (Denmark, Norway, Sweden)
Peso (Mexico)
Pound (United Kingdom: England, Scotland)
Yen (Japan)
Euro (European Union)

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further
assistance in planning your visit, please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to sailing with you!

Have a Magical Day!

Stephanie

That is interesting and good to know. What are your thoughts on th exchange rate? Probably not good since everything else on board is overpriced. It at least should be good for changing large into smaller denominations.

I'm guessing it's high too. But I thought it was good to know in case we way underestimated how many we needed.:)

Welcome back. I sorry that you are all sick and hope you will feel better soon. You are definitely braver than I am. I tried the camel thing in Dubai and panicked as soon as the camel stood up.

I was on the 2007 cruise and the rate was $1.45 t0 1 euro and the rate on board was as good as the land side exchange booths we had used in Barcelona pre-cruise. I don't think they would mark up the exchange much rather just offer it as a convienence. A credit card will usually give you the day exchange when charged. There are prepaid credit cards that can be loaded before hand and used without the fear of a large debt run up if the numbers are stolen while on the trip. Also it is good policy to notify your credit card you will be traveling and expect charges from countries to be visited. But it is good to have pocket money for small things like has been said. A number of vendors(legitemate store based) will ship your purchases to the U.S. and it makes it alot easier than struggling to carry those items back.

That's good to know, thanks!:)

Corinna:
The camel getting up was the worst part. I thought I was going to pitch over the top of it. And my camel was pretty ornery. I named him after my Arabic teacher, and we were with his brother, who thought it was hysterical.

What sorts of things do people put in the FEs? I have nothing, and we have so much to do.

Julie

I often find gifts of gold, frankincense and local currency, along with oranges, to be welcome. You were just in a souk, weren't you? They should have carried these items. ;)

What I keep telling people is Keep it Simple, Lightweight, Consumable, Low Price. While out shopping, I tend to start into that Christmas mentality and the $$ tag starts to escalate - then I stop, remind myself this is more like a Christmas stocking item and you're not the only one gifting and it is not Christmas, Eid, Hanukkah, Kwanza, whatever.

Are you going to the market in Tunis? That might be a place to find something. You've only got 11 other families; 37 people; 13 kids (17 and under). Could be easier than carrying something over on the plane.

Sure!! =)

Just remember it is made to be printed back to back so print evens then odds or vice versa.

Brooklyn is so excited about it. Makes me happy bc I know she will want to write in it everyday

I didn't see any frankincense or gold in the souks. Maybe we went to the trailer park souk? Probably. Lots of oranges though. And peanuts. Snails (called babush in Moroccan Arabic) and tea you could drink out of shared cups.

Oh wait, we did pass through the gold souk on our return to Fes. I think it was in the Mellah- the old Jewish Quarter, or it might have been in "New Fes" new as in compared to Fes from the 700s, that is. Didn't stop to shop, just walked through. So no FE gifts from the gold souk, sorry guys.

I'm thinking something Philadelphia related. Edible. Not cheese steaks or pretzels, though.

Julie

Help:scared1::scared1::scared1:

I just got an email from disney talking about port excursions. (They now have photos posted). Looked at the day at Berber village and if this is the best they can show of what to expect I am taking my name off the list. I don't have the time to review what has been posted on the board so if anyone has an idea of what sounds interesting to do please let me know (my ids aren't in to museums, my husband likes photography and I like to shop)

We're doing the DCL Carthage and Medina excursion -- this way the boys get to see Roman ruins and I get to do a little shopping :)

Julie, Do you live in Philly? I am flying out of Philly as my travel companion lives near there.
