4/24/2010 Med cruise: Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your Ears

Thank you to all that have been sending pixie dust our way! We really do appreciate it!!

So, the latest in our trials and tribulations is that we don't know anything. If I look on the JetAirways website and search on our flight # it indicates that the flight is canceled. However, if I go to manage by booking - it shows that the flight is scheduled and we are confirmed. Spoke with Travel Insured Agent and he said he couldn't actually see anything on our booking to indicate that the flight is canceled. Also two websites PANYNJ.gov (Port Authority of NY/NJ) and flightstatus.com both indicate that the flight is scheduled and these have been recently updated. So, now we don't know what to believe. The hold time at JetAirways is very long and I'm not sure what they will tell us since they probably see the same stuff we do. So, TA has indicated that he will receive notification from the airline if the flight is truly canceled and as soon as that happens, he will call us. So, we're back to keeping our fingers crossed. So, pixie dust is very much appreciated :) I think if this craziness doesn't drive me insane - I'm doing pretty good
:thumbsup2

Hopefully I'll know more in the morning. Okay - off to watch some TV and not think for a little while!

Oh, I do hope everyone gets on the cruise somehow! I have been so worried for all of you and praying and hoping it will all work out! Here's some more pixie dust!: pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

There is still hope here. Heathrow opened in a limited capacity. If all goes well, we should be good to go by Thursday evening. Thanks everyone for the pixie dust and keep it coming until the plane is in the air.

Best of luck!!! We are rooting for you that you get on a flight and get there in time

I'm hoping you get there too!!! Maybe now that more airports are opening up - more flights will open up as people shift around to get to their destinations. :wizard: Pixie dust to you! But if you don't get there for Saturday - at least you'll join in Naples - you've got a plan and that's awesome!

Hi all. We are cabin 8050. Myself (Jon), DW Lisa, DS Luke (13), & DS Drew (13) .... that's right, blessed with twins, will be arriving in BCN Thu direct from ATL. I have been following the threads for months and wanted to extend my heartfelt prayers for all the stranded and frantically scrambling fellow april 24th'ers. I have not seen a confirmation on the fireworks on Thu or Fri from the EBTA, any info? Also, is there still a loosely planned meeting at 7p at the magic fountain on Fri? I can't wait to finally be underway.

Oh my gosh - in all my craziness of the day I forgot to say

Aboard!!!!

BTW - were you by chance on the Sept. 19th Western Caribbean cruise? We met a lovely family in the Walt Disney theater that had boys - who I believe were twins. I think the family was from Georgia. I remember talking to them about this cruise and the Kids Sail Free offer - anyway - just wondering. If not, I'm still welcoming you on board!! :lmao:And, hopefully will get to meet you on Saturday!

Thanks. Been a crazy roller coaster ride and until we get to the ship, not sure I can feel comforted yet that we have a plan that will get us there.

We are going to keep an eye out on flights for Thursday to see if anything opens up to get into Spain before cruise. Not likely but I suppose you never know.

Hope to see you on this cruise. Best of luck again.

I hope our TA cruisers are having a wonderful time on the ship. Any updates on how the cruise is going?

Thanks so much for the welcome. Our last cruise was eastern caribbean in June, so that must have been a different family. I am so happy that you have encouraging news. My whole family was hurting for you guys as we know how excited you must be and what a let down to have the rug yanked out .... because of a VOLCANO?! Years from now, no one will believe there were flight delays due to an ash cloud. Anyway, look 3 stars to the right and straight on till dawn and you will soon be on the Magic meeting all of us. I am working all night tonight, so if you are restless and can't sleep ... send a quick note and I'll commiserate with you. Best of Luck.

Jon

Hi and welcome aboard.

I have a 13 year old son who is excited to hear that there will be more boys his age to hang out with. Not sure if the plans are the fountain or the harbor on Friday but I think we may head out to the fountain for something different.

Just want to know if anyone else will be bringing a pile of homework to do on the cruise.

If we get there... my guys will be homework free!!! :woohoo:I decided to be really nice to them and not have them think about school work - but I will have them journal each day :thumbsup2

Just want to know if anyone else will be bringing a pile of homework to do on the cruise.

My kids were planned to be out of school for 4 days this week. They are in year round school and have off after this week for a break. They were going to bring makeup work from the teachers to do for days they were missing this week (fortunately not missing alot). My one finished most of her makeup work today since we were to be flying out and didn't. My other hasn't started any makeup work so have the folder untouched. They go back in tomorrow to school given our flight setback and if we stay on this Monday flight to Rome, they will not have any makeup work to bring, but if we can get on a flight say Thursday they will have a little I expect to bring and do sometime over the vacation which we didn't think we would have a problem fitting in some how. They also have a report they have to do for missed days at school about what they learned on this trip from an educational view.

How much work do yours have?

Mine are missing a total of 13 days so there will be quite a lot of makeup work. My oldest has been told he will be missing 2 math quizzes and a test, a social studies quiz and chapter test, a few science quizzes and an endless supply of short stories to read. Added to this are 29 pages of math homework (with more promised for tomorrow) and notes that will be posted on line for science. Since he only has each class three times a week he is only missing 8 classes of each at most. I think they are overreacting. Unfortunately for me I promised to do any non educationally valid work so i think I may be more busy with it than they are. My youngest has a more reasonable stack to get through.
Oh sorry I forgot he also has home economics as well to do. Better go pack it.

Congrats to those who have put flights together and will make the sailing. We are still hopeful. If Heathrow stays open, we will be fine. Looking forward to meeting everyone, even more so now since we have gone on this roller coaster ride together.

As for our boys, they have already completed some of their work this week and will do some more when they get back. We are going to leave school at school for the trip. It will be more than busy ... plus the teen adventures when we are not in port are sure to be epic. They had so much fun on the 3 day in April and the 7 day Eastern Caribbean in June with the other teens. They still keep in touch with many of them. One of the weeks of our trip corresponds to their class trip week at school which they elected to miss for the cruise/Barcelona experience. They will keep a short journal of their time in Spain for their Spanish class .... not too taxing.

I am pleased to hear of your alternate plans as well. Some of the cruise is vastly better than none of the cruise. Only 36 more hours till we take off!!

We are actually staying in Barcelona for 5 days after the cruise to see the Spanish Grand Prix so in between races the homework will come out. My son has also enjoyed meeting other teens on the cruise so this should be great for them.
