4/15/2007 Anyone?

outahere, thanks for your advice. This is our first cruise,so everything is stressing me out. I will probably leave everything alone, and if we enjoy this cruise, next time I will make the arrangements on my own. This is defienlty a trial and error experience for us. I'm justing hoping everything works out okay. :)

We just booked for the 4 day cruise! Yipeee!!!! We've never cruised before so this should be a treat. I'll be bringing DH, DS (16) and DD (14)! Any suggestions on where to stay the night before? We're going to stay a couple of days afterwards near WDW.
Thanks
Laurie

Welcome! :welcome: You will have a wonderful time on the cruise. :woohoo: This is our 2nd Disney cruise, but our 7th overall cruise and we've decided that DCL is by far our favorite.

We have a nice group for our DISmeet. I'll add you to the list.

I haven't booked our flights or the hotel the night before, but we are planning to stay by the port. We are also going to WDW and staying at OKW for a few days afterward.

Speaking of flights, the cost to fly into Orlando is extrememly high, so we are thinking of flying into Tampa, West Palm Beach or Ft. Lauderdale. I hate to have the long drive, but the savings may make it worth the drive. :confused3

Hi all :wave2: Still haven't booked our flights  Just can't get over the sticker shock. Heck, last time we flew to Florida we had tickets for $77 each way for the 4 of us on direct flights ... kinda making that $1400 pricetag a little tougher to swallow today. We're flying into Ft. Myers on Thursday (or Wednesday if the price is better) and then driving to the port on Sunday. It'll be a long drive that morning, but SO worth it once we're on the ship. I've been checking prices on Southwest a couple of times a day. They are showing special lower-priced fares, but the only ones available are the expensive refundable any time ones :sad2: I'll keep looking.

I just booked our flights and a hotel at the port. We are flying Continental Airlines from Newark, NJ to Orlando on the 14th. I've never flown Continental, but the cost was much more reasonable than Jet Blue, Delta or American. We don't arrive until 9:30 PM and we drive right to the port to stay at the Residence Inn. We still need to reserve a car, but DH won't use Budget. He was unhappy the last time we used them. I don't even remember why. :confused3 He likes Hertz. I'm not sure how far they are from the port though. We have to decide if we want to keep the car to drive to WDW after the cruise, or turn it in and reserve another one on the 19th. So many decisions!

Ed, I've been meaning to ask you if you had a DIS meet on your DD cruise? If so, when & where did you meet and did it work out well?

Yes there was a DIS meet, but we never made it. We were a little late getting on the ship and we were trying to get my parents acquainted with everything, especially how to get from point A to point B. They had never been on a ship that size, so they were a little flustered.

Anyway, the meet was scheduled for deck 10 during sailaway. I definitely agree with doing the meet in the Promenade Lounge. That is a much calmer place than one of the decks during the sailaway party. We'll be able to actually talk to one another, without having to yell!

What hotel should we stay at the night before? There's too many to choose from. We also need to rent a car...what company is the easiest to use?
Thanks!

That's what I thought also. We met in the Promenade Lounge on our last cruise and it was very quiet. Do you think 3:00 is too late to meet, or would you aim for 2:30?

We booked the Residence Inn. I think it is close to the port. It has great reviews both on the boards and on Trip Advisor. We got a AAA rate of $116. this includes a breakfast buffet. The last time we cruised DCL we stayed by the airport, but this time I'd rather drive to the port the night before.

As far as the car, DH doesn't like Budget, so we will probably go with Hertz. Budget is the closest to the port though. Most people on the boards use them.

Good luck!

I got a Disney pkg in the mail yesterday and my daugther saw it! Oh, gosh! I had to lie...told her it was just information and nothing important. I had to lie!!! I hope I can keep this quiet until Dec 25th!

I'm putting together a box with things in it for the cruise! Anyone have any ideas???

Thanks,
Laurie

Hi Laurie,

As a first time cruiser, you might find this website helpful:
http://manullang.com/DCLcruisingtips.htm
It also has a link to a website with packing ideas.

The most important things that I always pack are:
1. an over the door shoe holder (plastic - @ $5.00 at Kmart) to keep everything in order. :thumbsup2
2. room deodorant for the bathroom
3. plug in night light
4. short multi plug extension cord for camera's, cell phones, etc.

There is a thread on these boards that also has helpful hints:

Good luck with your surprise! :goodvibes

I received my Ship & Shore Vacation guide today! :woohoo: Did anyone else receive theirs? It makes the cruise seem closer! :cheer2:

We got ours a few days ago, along with the payment due dates, etc. We're probably going to try to get a day room at either Atlantis or the Comfort Suites, instead of doing any of the DCL excursions in Nassau. The last time we stopped in Nassau, we didn't even get off the ship.

We got ours last week also! It sure does bring the excitement! I hope Dec 25th comes soon...can't wait to tell the kids!

We booked through AAA ..should we still get a book in the mail? Telling the boys christmas morning...can't wait!!!!!!!!!! :cool1:

I received my Ship & Shore guide today via my travel agent. It travelled safely all the way to Australia.
I was so excited because it makes our trip seem much closer and more than just a dream.

We received ours on Saturday. I have been in a bit of a funk lately though because our dd, dsil and 2 dgd had to cancel the cruise. Tommy and I are still going but it just won't be the same...

Judy, we're at the Residence Inn the night before the cruise too and though we got a AAA rate it's not nearly as great as yours. What kind of room did you book? I may have to go back and try for that nice rate!

Sharon, I'm so sorry your family won't be able to join you. :sad2: I hope everything is okay with them. No wonder you are in a funk. I know it won't be the same, but we'll all get to know one another and have a great time on the cruise!

We booked a one bedroom at the Residence Inn. I booked it online with the AAA rate. I don't know if there was a special web rate as well.
