Can anyone give me any feedback on using a 3rd party service to handle the rental of your points?

Do you feel comfortable giving them your membership number?

Thanks for your feedback.

I wouldn't do it and I don't know why the need your number. They can't access your account.

The 3rd party sites do not need to do that any longer. It used to be that you could make them an associate on your account so they could book on your behalf. But that is no longer allowed. Now they act as a broker - connecting owners with those that want to rent, possibly holding the money in escrow, etc. (I can only say with certainty that David's should no longer need your membership # - I don't know anything about the other sites that are out there, but it works the same for all now.)

I would just try the Rent/Trade board first! I have had very good luck renting/transferring to fellow DISers. Why pay a third party for something that you can easily do yourself? If you do it yourself, you can probably get a better return. Also, there is no added security for using a third party. For rented points, the contract is still between you and the renter.

You shouldn't have to give them your membership #

They do the leg work for you. They find an interested party, write up the contract and collect the money. The one who advertises on this board I believe charges $13 per point and you get $10. So the question is if you can get more than $10 on your own and is it worth doing the leg work. People feel more secure with the 3rd party and are willing to pay more. If I ever rented points, I would go that route.

To each their own, but the couple times I've rented I simply placed an ad on the board and they were gone in a couple days. The only leg work was a few emails and a couple phone calls. In my opinion it is well worth a couple hundred dollars for doing that much "leg work".

We have been renting since 2004. Just post on Disboards or even better *********** and the guest will come to you. We have rented over a 1,000 points is a week more times then not. Have not had a bad rental yet. We have been to all the resorts and can help the guest make a choice. With 3rd party you do most of the work and get your money on their terms.
