$399 DVC Premium Annual Pass-Extended?-Speculation

.....(snip)...

If they had offered a similar great annual pass offer for DL (even the combined WDW/DL AP) we'd have bought one there too, ..........I don't understand why DL consistently gets the short-shift on DVC discounts:confused3 . .......(snip).......
The short answer is that they do not need to offer discounts there.

Most of the discounts offered to DVC members are extended to increase revenue in certain areas.

DL annual pass prices were substantially increased this last go around. Informed speculation suggested that Disney actually wanted to reduce the number of DL annual pass-holders. Apparently the revenue per passholder wasn't meeting expectations, and they'd rather have day visitors in the parks because they tend to spend more per guest. The DL market is different from the WDW market.

If the above is true, it is very unlikely that DVC members will ever be offered a meaningful discount on DL annual passes or the Premier Pass.

Be there in 2 weeks...do I have to buy online or just go to park services?

We bought one at the DTD Guest Relations and upgraded to one at MK Guest Relations! They just asked for ID and DVC member ID.

I also hope they continue with the DVC owner discount for AP. I live over 1,000 miles from WDW and its a major trip to the location . I am in the midst of selling and re-locating with my home and the time for the parks won't be any time soon. So it would be hoped that Disney still wants to generate a positive opinion with DVC owners who visit into future years and continue with this perk!

I don't think there is any indication they will get rid of the existing AP perk, which is $149 off a regular AP, $144 off on a PAP ($559 vs $699).

Where is the info on the $399 PAP and how long is the offer good?

We have already purchased APs (to be picked up when we go in February.) We purchased before the last price increase. I can't remember if we got regular APs or PAPs. Is the big difference the water parks? I think we did get the PAPs because we wanted the water park access.

Is this a better deal now? Wonder if it's worth buying and saving for another year? :confused3

See this thread from CHesihire Figment post 19 http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1452684&page=2 This promotion ends Dec 31st and is currently cheaper than a regular DVC AP. The only restriction is that it has to be redeemed by Dec 31st 2013. So you could buy this use it in Feb when you go and save the current AP that you have now for a later trip. Water parks, Disney quest and a 20% merchandise savings vs the 10% savings on the regular AP.

interesting thanks, hadn't heard that before

Call Disney ticketing, we were able to change our vouchers for regular DVC APs into the discounted PAPs. We'll pick them up in January.

I don't see them extending it and we did not get one, because we are never sure when we will be there, nothing in our life is that definite.

While it was a great savings on a PAP, it basically discounted things we won't use, water parks, golf, Disneyquest and the merchandise discount. After 30 years of going we might buy one Christmas ornament per year and that is it.

So we will stick to buying multi day tickets or the regular annual pass when we are more certain we will actually make two trips in a year.

Same here, although vacations in our family are planned as far as 18 months in advance. APs are a given in order to reduce overall cost of 2 trips within a year of each other and that PAP would be well used. That said, I was hit hard by some unexpected expenses this fall and with gift giving season in the mix, pre-purchasing PAPs at this point in time is not the intelligent thing to do.

I pray Disney does extend this discount, but am not expecting them to do so. I'll just plan on picking up APs next summer when we visit.

That doesn't sound like "no" to me. It simply sounds like we didn't get any information one way or another at the meeting.

That is true. However, it was the ideal forum to announce that the perk would be extended and they did not do so. They announced that members would have access to Top of the World lounge in 2013 but nothing about continued $399 PAPs.

On that basis alone, I think it's unlikely.

Don't know if anyone can help me but here goes: We plan on buying the PAP in a few days for our Jan 2013 trip. Our daughter is enrolling in an educational programme that comes with tickets. No one at Disney can tell me if I'll be able to 'cash in' these tickets towards my APs. I have to buy the tickets with the programme.

I don't know if the educational tickets can be upgraded or not but given the dates you provided, it's a moot point.

Upgrades can only be performed in person and you will not be on property until 2013. The $399 PAPs must be purchased by 12/31/12.

I actually logged in tonight just to look for thoughts on this topic.

We are going over Easter 2013 and I have been toying with idea of a 2nd trip during hallowishes - we haven't been during that time before. If we are definitely going in fall 2013 it makes sense to get the $399 pap and activate at Easter... However Christmas bills are of course over budget, so I really don't want to charge another $1200 this month.

Of course if I do not get the pap it decreases the chances that we will return for hallowishes too, whereas if I get the pap better believe that I will get us back during the year so as not to lose the value of the pap.

So in our case, if offer is extended into 2013 until say march 31 I am 98% likely to take advantage and then go for a 2nd trip in 2013. If not extended I am only about 20% likely to get them, and if I do not purchase now per the december budget will not plan to make the 2nd trip either...

I think it would be a good idea if they could extend it until around tax day, which is April 15th. I only say this because many people use their tax returns to pay for their Disney vacations.

Our APs expired yesterday, and we just bought PAP this past Saturday because we will be back in WDW on December 29th. Can we then buy a voucher that we can use when these PAPs expire, next December 17th? What would the cost be, the $399+ tax for each?

Thanks.

if i'm understanding correctly, yes: if you purchase the PAP voucher by dec 31, 2012, it will cost $399 plus tax. then you have until dec 31, 2013 to activate the voucher.
we bought vouchers for DH, who had an active AP, and myself who had an expired AP (was using old passes i had).
hth:)

OK...now to decide if we can afford another large "hit" on the CC!

YES tickets cannot be upgraded, modified, etc. We were told this by both the YES coordinator and guest relations when we picked up our vouchers this Aug. I did not ask if they could be applied to AP--but I think that would be an upgrade.
