34 points for one night

I thought it was a great idea. But now i'm still torn between the 34 points for one night and the 30 fp or the $250.00 room at bw with no fp. Help!!!

just me, but I'd pay out of pocket...34 points is A LOT for a room you may not get until 4pm and then will be leaving early the next morning. That's like 34 points for 16-17 hours, like 2pts an hour, right?

That said, I'd also get on the wait list for 2 cheapest point studios for that night - cheapest you can find. If your waitlist comes through, you can always cancel your room only night (as long as it's 6-7 days before I think) and get your money back for the passholder rate room ;)

Did you already book the one bedroom?

I've booked both to keep my options open and hope to make a decision this weekend. We stayed up till 11:30(that's late for us), going over the pros and cons. I'm still not sure. AHHHHHHHHH!

We recently went to Disneyland and stayed at the GCV and through a promotion and some pixie dust, ended up with about 30 FP's. It was amazing. We were able to plan the day around having FPs for the busy rides and then using our ticket to get ride specific FPs too. I would use the points just to have the FP advantage.

Ok to further complicate things, annual passholder discounts came out for that night. We can get 40% off boardwalk standard room for about $250.00. The only negative is that we get 30 fast passes if we check in using points. Are the 30 fp worth the points?

Somebody has either drastically misunderstood something or been told something wrong. I'm sorry but there's no way renting one room for one night, and on points at that, is gonna get you any FP's at all, much less 30 of them. Something doesn't pass the sniff test.

I don't know what this gig is but what I do know is that I want in. :lmao:

Maybe at DL (which I find hard to believe too but I'm going to stop short of saying that) but at WDW, as far as I have ever known or heard, something like this is unheard of, and believe me when I tell you that if it does happen at WDW, we would have heard about it on DIS... a LOT.

I hope you have that 30 fp for 3 years in writing. When did you buy? We've never heard of that promotion, or even anything close.

3 FP at purchase time for each member of the family present and good for 3 days, I can swallow. Like I said, somebody has either been deceived or has grossly misunderstood what was promised, IMHO.

It was one of the incentives when we purchased. We get 30 fast passes for three years, every time we check in on points. I figured with it being f & w, fast passes were the one way we would get to ride things.

Horse dung. I wanna see the proof. I ain't from Missouri but you gotta show me. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Ahhhh! You guys are freaking me out. Sooo I just called Thomas who sold us the contract on the dream inaugural cruise. He was on the wonder today so I spoke with Chris. Chris said it was the incentive that they offered for that cruise. He said it is listed under the membership number. He said for three years every time we check in on points we will receive 10 cards with 3 fp on each. He said we would have to call saratoga springs when we check in, give them the member or contract number, and ta-da 30 fp.:cool1: Now we all need to book the inaugural of the Fantasy.

So back to the question, I guess I should do the room on points, get the fp.

I like to get the most mileage out of our points if possible. We are staying in a Savanna view studio for 4 nights in August for 68 points. So you are getting 1 night for half of that. Yes, I think it is a lot of points. However, they are your points and if you'd rather use the points than pay cash, then the decision is yours. Remember you probably won't get into your room until 4 pm and be out by 11 am. That isn't a whole lot of hours for 34 points.

I suppose that's because maybe you live around WDW. I know the night before a DCL cruise, we stay at WDW! We're doing that in September, and it's not even DCL, its RCCL!

us too, cannot imagine being so close to the world & not stopping in for a visit both pre & post cruise if out of PC or TPA:thumbsup2

We've flown in and driven over to a hotel near the port several times before sailing. However, we are pretty sick and tired of the WDW parks and prefer to spend most of our time hanging out by the pool at the resort, so we can do that close to the port.

How many points did you buy? and when is your use year? If you will be getting another big batch soon, I say use them,
if you bought 100 points, and it is a year till you get more, then pay cash for a value or mod.... or call dvc, see if there isn't something else for less, do you really need a 1 br for 1 night? I have to believe there is a studio at SSR being so big, or one of the others available.

but yes, 34 points is alot. even with the fp's..

just my 2 cents!

The promotion was all over the boards so not so hard to believe.....2 FP's per guest for stay during specific time and there were 9 of us (1/2 of party were kids with no use for FP) and hotel messed up twice and gave us 12 more FP total for mess ups = 30 FP.

Look at it this way, 34 points for a room for 18 hours, I agree with everyone else, if you just need a place to stay for the day, then do what everyone said, book a value resort, I guess Magical Express is involved here picking you up at the airport and also taking you to the port.

My instinct is to balance points and comfort. Since there is 30 fp's on the line - that totally bumps the comfort level, so I would be staying on points. I think that OKW has great bus service, especially if you are staying near the HH. I also understand having your heart set on a particular resort.

So if it were me, I would pull the points charts and grab a calendar and roughly plan the next 3 years out. Using both a 1 br at OKW, and 1 br at BCV ( ok, I've started typing, and I can't remember if that was the resort that is 34 pts for Sat. night, but you get my drift...)

If I could make it work with BCV, than I would book there. If I was a few points short, I would stay at OKW - or look at a studio somewhere to make the plan work.

But I am ok with borrowing like crazy right now, because at this point in my life, I KNOW that I want to go to WDW all the time. I can't guarantee that when I am 80 I will be sad that I used all my points when I was 79.

Just to update everyone, we did stay at boardwalk on points. We called the DVC sales center when we were about 30 minutes away. Our contract in the system indicated we were intitled to 30 fastpasses for every check in. We ran by the sales office and had 10 cards with 3 instant fast passes on each card in about five minutes. It really made that one day that much easier. We were able to ride soarin three times in under a hour with food and wine going on. That was my favorite part. Then again the following Thursday, when we got off the Dream, we were able to pick up 30 more fast passes. That part of the trip included a 2, 6, 8 and 13 year old. They loved the fact that we were able to get on so many rides instantly. Of course on the boat, we went to the dvc presentation to see about adding points, and the 30 fast passes is not an incentive right now. I let the sales guy know in my opinion it was the best incentive. Save me time in line, that's what I need.
