The MK and other theme parks will still be jammed with strollers, just not as many WDW strollers. There are more than a few companies in the Orlando area where you can rent strollers for a lot less than $31/day. We will be using one of these companies during our May trip. So while the number of WDW strollers might go down I don't think that the overall number of strollers will go down.

Absolutely -- and the number of big strollers on the Disney Tranportation systems will INCREASE -- making everyone suffer.

I am also sorry that you feel this way. I personally don't care if a 20 year old sits in a stroller as long as it was paid for and used in an appropriate manner. Many times people don't understand is that apperance isn't everything and you shouldn't judge things just based on that.

Agreed. If it is paid for and being used in the right manner it shouldn't matter if the child has disablities or if it is just easier for the parents to put an 8 year old in a stroller so they can fully enjoy the day without having to go back for a rest in the room.

Now if the kids are climbing everyone on it and getting in people's way and such or if people are using them so they can push their stuff around that should obviously be handled.

I haven't gone through the whole string yet so not sure if these have been brought up:

1. sounds like in a lot of cases it may be cheaper to just buy a stoller than dispose of it/store it when you are done.

2. I have seen posts about sharing photopass, etc...why not a stroller share? Pass it on to the next person when you are done.

I get a little discouraged when I see 10 and 12 year olds riding in the strollers, but it's not my business. My daughter is 4 now, but has special needs and low muscle tone so while she loves to walk, she gets tired easily. I could see her being in a stroller when she is 6 or 7 but only when she is tired. Like someone said, people have different situations.

Here's what I don't get:

Disney brings out Magical Express for free in 2005. Why? To keep people from renting cars, ie, to keep people on Disney property.

You've got 1 out of 2 likely scenarios here:

1.Bus congestion, where Disney will need to have more buses running to get guests back and forth since so far less will fit on each bus because of the strollers. More gas, more drivers, more bus maintenance.

2.People start renting cars, leaving Disney property.

What am I missing here?

Or maybe it just is greed and at some point Disney will realize that the demand for their product is not perfectly inelastic.

I also googled stroller rentals in Orlando and it looks like there are services available that probably cost less. For example you can rent a double stroller for $76 a week on this site. http://www.villadirect.com/stroller_rental.html

This really sucks for people who need strollers. I think this is probably an effort on disney's part to reduce how many strollers there are. I can't see any other reason for such a huge increase in price. I'm not saying it is right, I'm just guessing at why they'd do that and I agree with some of the pp's. I think it will decrease strollers in parks by the way, not every single person that rented will buy one instead, thats just impossible.

There'll be a significant decrease in strollers in parks, or people will pay the increased rental prices. Lots more will bring their own, but it won't make up the gap. Either way, I suspect Disney has predicted this and will be happy with the increased dollars/unit and the decrease in strollers. I see a lot of kids age 5 and up in rented strollers, and I'm sure it makes it easier, but I doubt these parents will buy strollers.

I just found out about the price increase this morning and I was heart broken! Our trip is coming up fast- April 25th, and we had budgeted to rent a double stroller at $18 a day for DS 2 and DS6. I did call Disney and spoke with several people who did confirm the increase ($27 a day for extended days) and most agreed it was high. I was hoping that I could reserve one at this price but no. So with a ticket or room rate increase- I can plan ahead, but with the stroller price increase I'm stuck?! This is just sickening! I'm not going to purchase a double stoller - because it's hard to find a stroller that would accomodate my 6yo. But I will be buying an umbrella for my 2yo. Regarless, we planned on taking breaks every afternoon- but it is NO ONE'S business if my 6yo needs a break. As one person commented- it makes him/her sick to see 6-7-8 yo in stollers all day. Just because you see one resting at 8:00 pm DOES NOT mean they have been in there all day!!! Our family has been saving for quite a while to be able to take a trip to Disney and WE will decide what WE need to make OUR trip more enjoyable for OUR family. WDW is a place designed for CHILDREN (of all ages)- and is a more appropriate place for cranky and tired 6YO than for judgmental adults who give condesending stares - even tho they have no idea what the conditions may or may not be. And if my child happens to have a brief melt down on our 10th day because he's tired of walking- so be it. If an adult doesn't want to see a cranky child- you're in the wrong place, try the Bahamas next time.

Just wanted to say you should check out the web site www.abbf.com as mentioned earlier in this thread. I have a 50 lb. 5 1/2 year old DS and almost 3 year old DD. We love the Disney stollers because the bigger kids can sit in them. BTW my DS has autism and NEEDS the stroller. This web site has a sit and stand double stroller. The smaller child sits in the front and the older can either stand in the back or there is a bench type seat for him. We own this stroller and it works great. I don't want to bring my own because it will be too much to deal with in the airport but I can rent this for $78!

One thing I can't seem to find is if DL is being affected by the increase as well. Currently stroller rental prices match at each resort.

If Disney increases WDW's prices and not DL's I'd say there are huge underlying issues here...

I just went to budget's site. For a week starting 4/6, you can rent 5 different classes of cars at MCO for less than $17/day!

To me it seems that if this was related to "plastic" prices and company greed... it would have affected BOTH resorts. DL and WDW has always had a pretty equal ratio in terms of prices, etc. As I said... stroller prices for both resorts were the same.

I can't imagine Disney "testing" higher prices at just one of the resorts... so I'm curious if there's another issue in the mix that we just don't know/aren't aware of.

Thanks for pointing this out. I had checked out the website, but at first glance I didn't see the sit/stand stroller which would work perfectly! An added bonus about this website is that they also rent fridges cheaper than I can get at the POP! Thanks for saving me more $$ Disney- by forcing me to explore other options!

DL only rents single strollers because of congestion issues (many narrow walkways at DL). So it's possible that the cost of DL's single strollers go up a few dollars like WDW's single strollers, but it's the HUGE increase in the double strollers at WDW that's the main issue here. Maybe it really is because they want to cut down on congestion in the parks.
