DWF I agree totally. I love being in my cabin. I did a 21 day cruise and had a very nice cabin and enjoy that cruise so much - would do it again in a heart beat.

That being said I just 'refreshed' the kitchen and the master bath for just over that price. To each her own! :snooty:

Again, I hope this does not come across as snobby. I guess I only write it to emphasize to those who might consider that cabin in the future, that the Royal is quite a nice experience. Not a bargain, certainly money that could be spent elsewhere more effectively, but a nice time nevertheless.
That didn't sound snobby at all. I think you explained yourself very well. :thumbsup2

For me, I can't even imagine spending that much on a cruise because I simply don't have the kind of disposable income that would allow it. I suppose I could afford it if it was the only vacation I ever took in my life and I eliminated little luxuries like food and shelter. :lmao:

I'm sure there are plenty of people who think that the cruises my family has booked (lowly little inside rooms) are extravagant and a waste of money too. I'm just thankful I'm fortunate enough to be able to take them.

It seems crazy to me to spend that kind of $ but that's because that would be a large % of my salary. To some people (even me a few years ago) the amount I'm spending on our trip in nov is crazy. I say if you can do it - do it and take pity on someone like me who can't ever imagine affording it and invite me over for the hot tub!!!!!

Always dangerous to comment to posts like this because oftentimes any comment whatsoever sounds obnoxious. Nevertheless, I will say that I do find the cost worth the experience. I am a person who enjoys my time in the cabin while on a cruise. I know that is much different from likely most people who feel their cabin is just a place to sleep after an exhausting day of port activities and/or ship activities. I prefer to relax in our cabin with our kids for multiple hours during the day. In addition, I like to stay up late reading or watching television. So, the cabin itself really does become my home for the week. The Royal suites do make that more possible with a full size fridge, a microwave oven, a Jura coffee maker, a dining room table, etc. In addition, I just love having my own enclosed steam shower in the bathroom and the hot tub on the balcony. So, although the cost has escalated in recent years and we do other trips besides DCL, I do think the Royal does offer a unique experience.

You spoke with class all the way :)

I travel on the higher end as well, but I do admit 36k for a week is tough. Post pics to convince me. :)

I thinking if I did have that kind of money to spend on vacation I would spend it on a trip abroad or an extended trip around the US.

Very well stated! I love to read trip reports of Royal Suites. Hey, I keep egging my brother on to cruise with us and he can book a suite and bring along my parents!

I bet those people never, ever leave their room!!!

We lucked out in Sept 2012 and upgraded on The Magic from an IGT 11B to the Roy Suite. It was for the 5 night Canadian and it was just me and DH. Man were the kids po'd! But it was a once in a life time to have the availability and the marked down price. We had a blast!

And we spent LOTS of time in the cabin!

But once you go concierge... lol. DH booked a cat V for us for our August Fantasy cruise!

Doesn't come off as snobby to me. If you can afford that much and that is how you choose to travel, good on ya! Presumably, you make your money and should spend it how you see fit. I'm one who sees the room as a place to sleep, so even if I could pay 31K for the room, I very likely wouldn't. I might do the one-bedroom sometime, though!

That said, do you have pictures up somewhere of one of the suites? :) I'll just have to live vicariously through you! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Edited to add that I see that you already have posted a review! Thanks!

Prices for xmas and new years 2014 were never published. Gold/Platinum must have gotten them so the rates were never published on cruisefish.

But those numbers sound about right... and yes, out of my league too, even though that's my DS12 dream - 7n xmas cruise on the royal suite. He'll have to settle for a 5e. Now if I win the lottery, I told him that even then those suites are long gone unless we become gold so we can book a day before opening date.

DWF thank you for this perspective. I have the Roy booked for next May as a once in a lifetime thing for my son's birthday. We had a T last year and he actually enjoyed spending time in there. He is between ages of the lab and edge, so he had a blast watching the movies in the room. I'm looking forward to my own hot tub lol! No as much as I would love to it's not something I will do more than once, mainly because it is just my son and I.

That's almost my year's salary. I don't care how nice the room is and how many butlers it has to feed me like a baby bird--even if I had the cash to blow, I would not. I'd travel Europe, go to the Far East, and Australia! I'd buy a nice car! Put a down payment on a house! To spend such money on a basic itinerary for a room ... sorry, super sticker shock :scared1:

Those who can afford the concierge level rooms I doubt need to be reminded how fortunate they are. I feel fortunate to afford DCL at all. Sure, having a nice room is very nice, and my family and I sail in nothing less than verandahs. But I'm sailing on the Wonder in a verandah this June to Alaska for less than what they want for the Fantasy in the same room category next June. Those who can afford those prices are blessed, and since the Fantasy rarely discounts rooms, there are a lot of blessed people out there.

That's the thing about the Royals - they seem to be the cabin types that sell out among the first, well before something like standard verandah sells out. That tells me that the price might be a bit too LOW for demand, which explains why they may have raised the prices.

Don't forget about the category V option on the Dream and Fantasy... *Can* be an option depending on the sailing, time of year, etc etc. :)

Ok, I'm used to seeing some steep prices on the DCL page...but this one actually made my eyes bug out a bit.

7 night Eastern Carribbean Concierge Royal Suite with Verandah.

This is not in my reality. I bet those people never, ever leave their room!!!

You can almost buy a car for that amount!

Enjoy your cruise.
