3 weeks to go and dh has a accident

as the title says, we leave in under 3 weeks and my husband had a accident at work on saturday.

he cut into his hand with a stanley knife and ripped a tendon. he has a elbow to end of fingers plaster cast on until they operate which should be this week (just waiting for the phone call).

im pulling my hair out.
should i notify the insurance company, the plastic surgeon and registrar have said it should be fine for the holiday but im in a right state.

Hi Chally - I would tend to take the advice of the plastic surgeon and registrar as they are the medical experts and if they say it will be fine then rest easy.....don't want you getting ill with worry!!

Awww poor you - what dreadful timing.

I hope he makes a swift recovery - I would take the advice of the doctors and see what happens after the operation as that will give a truer indication of recovery time.

I suppose you have to ask yourself - will this injury prevent him enjoying the holiday and being able to do things or will you still have just as much of a good time - even if he is restricted in activities. If it will have a negative impact on the holidays then perhaps you may want to postpone it??

With respect to insurance - there is no harm in giving them them a call to see what your options are - if anything for your own sanity and peace of mind. (Going back I called my insurance when I was made redundant just to check I was covered - even though I did not actually claim)

Wishing your husband a speedy recovery - try not to get to stressed - I am sure things will work out for you.

If you think he may treatment because of the operation (infection or other complication) then you should let your insurer know. Better to pay a little more for insurance than not to have cover when you need it.

I can't share any insight into the insurance situation, but I can share a little experience of my own. I tore a ligament in my wrist and had to have it surgically corrected; I would imagine that this is a very similar surgery. I may have just been dense, but I didn't realize I would be in a full arm cast (above my elbow to my fingers) for 6 weeks after surgery. It wouldn't have stopped me from going to Disney, but I didn't want you to be surprised like I was if your DH has to have a cast for a while after the surgery.

My gf's dad had a very bad accident two years ago, when his wedding ring got caught in a saw. It basically turned the ring into a sharp spinning blade itself, which cut huge holes in the fingers on either side of his wedding finger, and the air ambulance had to come to pick him up. The surgeons were incredible though, and he now has about 90% mobility, which is phenomenal considering that huge chunks of his hand had to be picked up off the floor by the paramedics before the circling cats could get to them
I hope your husband is just as fortunate with his surgery. Personally I would follow others advice above, and give the insurers a call to discuss your options.

I was waiting in all day yesterday for the hospital to ring about the operation, they left it until 545pm and he is booked in for today at 4pm.
I am going to wait to ring the insurers until he has had the op and is home later tonight as we want to see what the doctors say.

wow, what a stressful day yesterday,
dh went to the hospital at 4pm, got changed into a gown at 5pm and finally went in for the operation at 815pm. the tendon damage was worse then they thought but they have managed to fix it somehow with a sort of small metal anchor to hold the tendon in place
The stitches are being taken out on the 12th October and he should then be ok to go on holiday.

all i need to do is buy some sort of waterproof covering for it

my tickets are at the ta so im off out in this lovely weather to go and get them
