Hi All,

We have rented points 3 times in the past and have finally bought into the DVC. We bought 225 points at the Bay Lake Tower with a February use year. We have already used 160 of the 225 developer points they gave us and booked a week in maui at the end of May for our Anniversary. Everybody on this site has been very helpful throughout the years so thanks for your help!!

Wow Maui! Congratulations! Where are you staying? That is our favorite Island. :thumbsup2 Have you ever been to Maui? If not, you are going to love Maui!:goodvibes

We are staying at the Kaanapali Beach Club. We tried to stay at the Grand Vacation Club at Waikiki, but it was booked through 2010. We have never been to Hawaii and have always wanted to go so we are taking advantage of the offer.

Well, you made the better choice. Maui wins over Oahu any day!

Are you only staying the one week, or are you also spending a few days other places? I would not reccomend a 1 week vacation to Hawaii unless you are on the west coast. We did that our first trip there, and it was a mistake. I wouldn't stay any less than 2 weeks, and 3 is better. We like to do a day on Oahu (lots of reasonable hotel nights there) at the beginning of the trip to acclimate to the time change. Then we like spending a week on each of two other islands (Kauai and Hawaii are our favs) and return to Oahu for 3-5 nights again at the end of the trip to prepare us for re-entry into the "real world"! It's like Oahu is the decompression and recompression site for us.

If you are midwest to east coast, a week is definitely not enough. It just takes too long to get used to the time change....then when you do, it's time to go home again.

Maui is so relaxed. Rent a car and take off. We have combed every inch of this Island a few times. We usually stay about 10 days with some Island Hopping too. Never been fortunate enough to have more time than that. Our Islands of choice are: Maui, Hawaii, Kauai, Oahu. Buy a book and make sure you see all the choice places.
Enjoy!

I agree that a car is essential on Maui! The road to Hana is a must as is sunrise on Haleakela. We enjoy the Io valley too and the north shore, but the road up there is hairy...especially if you are on the ocean/cliff side!:scared1:

Oh! that road is down right dangerous. I swear there were places that I wanted to walk ahead of the car. We only did that road once:scared1: This thread is making me want to go back. Maybe I will have to see what I can do for 2010. We found the best snorkel place for Green sea turtles. We saw cars on side of the road, stopped and walked down the bank, there were the snorkel boats and the Locals. :goodvibes We said that when we bring the family, we wil just take them there instead of paying for a snorkel tour.

Thanks for the advice. We were only able to book for one week through RCI, but we are looking at staying an additional 2 - 3 days at another resort. We were thinking of coming into Oahu for a short stay and then spending the week on Maui and flying back. Any advice for best way to get there from Philadelphia?

An airplane would be nice!:lmao:

Seriously, I would check the airlines that fly direct from your area and see if they have any 'fly stay' deals. We usually find a 3-4 day package to Oahu with NWA (Now Delta), and if we book with them, it gives us airfare at about half price.

I highly reccomend the book

Maui Revealed

Used it to plan our honeymoon

Very Helpful!

Mamas fish house is the place to eat

We rented twice before we purchased too. I just kick myself that we didn't purchase earlier but renting is a great way to find out if DVC is really for you or not. Have fun in Maui!
