3 sisters + 2 worlds=5 days of Orlando fun! An Aug. '10 TR...final thoughts p. 45

Ha ha, I know exactly what you mean about Captain EO. I had all these memories of it when I was a kid and when I saw it again, I was like, what??? The storyline makes no sense but I still think it is pretty fun to watch.

I have never done the Kim Possible mission, so I think that is going to be on my agenda in February.

Yeah, it was a little strange for my normal liking but I agree, it was still fun to see something different for a change.

Yes, the KP missions are fun! Even though I'm 25. LOL!

Hehe.... I think that was my Jan. TR you read about the mission in Norway. We were in mid-drinking our way around the world when we had to tell the CM that Vikings were all the rage. We found it Hilarious - so did the CM :rotfl:

Norway is a fun mission. I agree, I think the missions were a great addition to the WS. 3 times we got FPs for a mission this last trip, but we never made it. Bummer.

How sad you're on your last day. At least you have another trip coming up soon!

It could've been your report too but I think the one I was reading had a family with 2 younger kids.

I was thinking we were never going to make it to ours either! I think we finally got there way later than the time on our fastpass. Oh well.

Yeah, I can't wait! Almost down to two months. Almost...

great update!!!!

I took us years before we found what Club Cool was!!!

It looked like a fun time around WS..where will you spend your last few hours?!

Same...I don't even know how long it's been there. But I know we only went in there recently.

Great update! Those Kim Possible missions look like fun, I wonder if I could convince my DH to do one on our October trip? popcorn::

I love the Mexico pavillion, it's one of my favorites! It's impossible to get a good picture inside though!

I have read that Hidden Magic book twice now, and I always forget to look for things! I did know the ToT fact, since I'm obsessed with ToT! :rotfl: But there are a lot of things I forget about, especially in MK...I'm going to read it again and take notes to look for things on my next trip!

Can't wait to see what you did next!

Hopefully you can convince him! I really enjoy doing them even if I'm like the oldest person walking around with the Kimmunicator. :rotfl:

That's what we did...we both read it and then took notes/highlighted things in the book we wanted to look for. So fun!

Great pictures of WS....my most favorite place on earth!!!

I really need to spend more time in China....loved the mug!!

Great updates!!!:thumbsup2

Love all your pictures in Epcot!! :goodvibes I definitely agree about Mission Space...it's one I skip every time too!!:scared1: The boys are trying to talk me into it for next trip....and that's a first because usually I'm the one trying to talk the boys into riding something.:rotfl:

Great picture with Marie!!:) Finding new characters are always so much fun! I love KP!! I hope we get to do more next time. It's definitely a great way to see the WS!!:thumbsup2

Via Napoli really looks gorgeous in the back of Italy. They really did a nice job on the facade. I'm really hoping to get to eat there sometime in the future. It sounds fantastic.

Norway is another of the Kim Possible missions that I really want to try. I think we just have Norway, Mexico and the UK left until we do them all.

Hi Angie! Glad you liked all the pictures. :) Yeah, my dad and sisters keep telling me I should try it but I kind of don't want to. LOL.

It is fun meeting new characters! I saw a video on here from the 1/2 marathon and it was cool that they had some new characters out on the course kind of as entertainment. One that was pretty neat was Louis from The Princess and the Frog (the alligator). And I can't wait to meet Rapunzel and Flynn Rider when we go. :thumbsup2

I'll be sure to post a review when I do my March TR. But I love Italian food so I'm probably going to give it positive reviews anyway! haha

I really liked the Norway mission. It'll be fun to do them all again to see if we get any of the variations.

If you read my April TR, you might remember how my dad and I spent a lot of time looking for a lot of the little details that we had read about in the Hidden Magic book. I decided to share one of those fascinating tidbits with my sisters and told them how the Tower of Terror was designed so it matches the architecture of the Morocco pavilion since it's visible from across the lagoon. Emma couldn't believe it. I think I impressed her. So of course she had to get a picture herself.

oh my gosh, I never knew that! That's so cool! I have to take a look at the Hidden Magic book.

Yeah, there are a lot of really interesting things in that book. It was definitely worth buying! :thumbsup2

OK, I really need to get going on this TR and finish it up...just a couple more updates to go. :sad2:

After our day at Epcot, we decided to go back to the resort for a little bit to rest. I took the opportunity to take a few pictures of our building in The Paddock. I seriously do not understand why so many people don't like Saratoga Springs. :confused3 It's so beautiful and peaceful!

Heading back to the room...
66236_661679836344_20305212_37669309_878871_n.jpg

Even though we had been so close to Downtown Disney, we didn't spend a whole lot of time there and I kind of wanted to go back. However, none of my sisters wanted to join me so I ended up going by myself. The sky was starting to get kind of dark and it looked like rain was on the way but I wasn't going to let that stop me! So I headed out on my own. Really, my main reason for going there was to visit D-Street, aka vinylmation heaven!

Another shot of the resort as I made my way to the walkway to DTD.
66236_661679841334_20305212_37669310_1950419_n.jpg

Since D-Street is on the West Side, I decided to try something out. It looked like the pathway went both ways...the Marketplace to the left and the West Side to the right (across the water you can see a lot of the West Side). That would've made the walk much shorter. So I turned right instead of left. How did that go? Well, I quickly figured out that the pathway definitely does NOT get you to the West Side, unless you want to swim across (and if the walkway does work, I'm going to feel like a moron!). Needless to say I had to turn around and enter at the Marketplace. At last I made it!

66236_661679846324_20305212_37669311_865863_n.jpg

From there it was kind of a long walk to get to the West Side and sure enough as I'm walking it starts to rain. It wasn't a downpour but it was still pretty steady. And you know how people get when it starts raining, they scatter in every different direction to seek cover. I ended up in some restaurant in the West Side to wait a few minutes for the rain to slow down or stop. But after about 5 minutes I decided to just keep on walking to D-Street. Heck, it might even feel refreshing from the humidity. Eventually I got to the store and started looking around. Like I said, it's pretty overwhelming in there, even for such a small store, and it could be easy to go nuts in there with all the stuff they have. Vinylmation everywhere, even in the decor!

I liked the table with all the different figures. Sooo many designs to choose from. :scared1:
66236_661679851314_20305212_37669312_954565_n.jpg

66002_661679906204_20305212_37669313_1923357_n.jpg

So how much money did I drop there? I was actually pretty good...I only walked away with a park 4 figure and then one of those stainless steel water bottles that I had been eyeing for a while. And it was nice to get a little bit of a discount with my AP. Here's the vinylmation I got:

Spectro Magic Mickey!

And the water bottle:

With my purchases in hand, I headed back toward the Marketplace. It was still raining so I ended up going into the World of Disney for a little bit but then decided to just go back to SSR so we could go to Hollywood Studios as our last park visit.

cont'd in next post...

Oh, D-Street really is Vinylmation heaven! I visited for the first time on my trip in November and I just about passed out! So many things to choose from and so little money. :lmao:

Friday, August 13, 2010 cont'd (part 5)

When I made it back to our room, I dropped off my stuff, took a quick shower (since I was already wet, LOL!) and got ready to head right back out. Hey, you have to make the most of those last few hours, right? And our park of choice was Hollywood Studios. So we headed out to the bus stop. Shortly after we got there, there was one of those typical Florida downpours. I'm glad it wasn't raining like that when I was walking back from Downtown Disney because it was POURING!

It was pretty funny watching the buses get back and the people getting off trying to figure out how they were going to get back to their rooms. A bunch of them stayed under the bus shelter for a while before sprinting back. Because we were too busy watching the rain, it took us a while to realize that there hadn't been a single Hollywood Studios bus come by. We saw plenty of all the other ones, but no DHS ones. Hmmm...once we got to the park I realized why that might've been. I'll get to that in a little bit...but as we were waiting, we also experienced a bit of Disney magic. While we were sitting there, two young girls and their dad came over to wait for a bus too. The one girl noticed all of our Vera Bradley bags and started talking to us about Vera Bradley and how her mom has a bunch of stuff. She also told us how she was there celebrating her birthday. Then the dad came over and asked us our names and where we were from. We started talking about being DVC members and how much we liked it. Then he asked us if we had ever heard of Disney magic. I said we had. He then pulls out this big bag of pins and gives us each one with our name on it! Well, Emma got one that said "Orlando" on it since he didn't have an Emma one. But it was still really cool. I thought it was so nice...how fun for them to be able to surprise people like that. Just goes to show the Disney magic is everywhere and even guests can get in on it! :goodvibes This is what the pin looked like...just instead of saying "I Love Mickey" it had our names (and Orlando!) on it.

pin31501

It turns out their bus came before ours did so we thanked them again and said good-bye. After almost 45 minutes, there was FINALLY a bus for Hollywood Studios. And luckily the rain had stopped by the time we got there.

We immediately went to check out the attraction board to see what the waits were like. It was then that we also noticed that the park closing for that night was 7:00!!! Not usually a problem but by the time we got there it was almost 6:00. :rotfl: OOPS!!! So we had a little over an hour to try and do something. The waits for Tower of Terror and Rock 'N Roller Coaster weren't bad (probably because the park was emptying out already ) so we were able to do both of them fairly quickly. Walking down Sunset Boulevard...

First up was RNRC where we did single riders. It was funny because they actually ended up filling up the entire car with single riders...not like the other day where the line didn't even move for how long.

After doing those two rides, Emma surprised me again when she said she kind of wanted to do the Animation Academy again. I had no objection to that so we headed toward the Animation building. I was a little bummed when I saw that Brian, our instructor the last two times, was outside. So we wouldn't be having him again. :sad2:

I am guessing that the class we got into was one of the last, if not the last, one of the day. Who would we be drawing this time?

39679_652438555944_20306951_37366571_1960995_n.jpg

Luckily it was a character we hadn't done...we got to do Piglet! Our instructor was OK. I don't know, maybe we've just gotten spoiled by having Brian but I just felt like the other guy we had didn't explain things as well. But my drawing still turned out:

We were also able to meet a few characters in there.

Since the park was going to be closing soon we ended up leaving shortly after that. We figured we would just get dinner back at the Artist Palette at Saratoga Springs. But for only being there about an hour, I'd say we were pretty successful. If only we'd actually paid attention to the park hours, LOL!

One last shot of DHS...bummed we couldn't catch one more Idol show...

up next: preparing to head home :sad1:

Oh, D-Street really is Vinylmation heaven! I visited for the first time on my trip in November and I just about passed out! So many things to choose from and so little money. :lmao:

LOL, I know, right? Good thing I have atleast some self-control. :rotfl:

aww so sad that the trip is almost over!! Don't worry though, you'll be starting your new one pretty soon!!!

I love SSR, it is very pretty! I stayed there with my college roommate when she bought into DVC (at AKL before it opened) and our building was right across from the main pool and food court area!

The thing that surprised me were the concrete hallways..I was not expecting that! We had a Studio that time and the pull-out which her and I slept on was hard as a rock but it was free for me so I didn't complain! I think the other times she went there, shes only gotten a 1 br which they liked much better!

What a bummer that you had to wait so long for a DHS bus, you could've had another half hour or so in the park! You really did get a lot done in a short amount of time though. Love the Animation Academy, your Piglet is really cute :goodvibes

Those Vinylmation things are so cute! :lovestruc I always consider getting one when I'm there, but I don't want to get addicted, so it's better for me to stay away! :rotfl:

Ugh that's too bad you only had an hour in DHS! But at least you got a lot done! :thumbsup2 The Piglet drawing is too cute, I really have to try that sometime!

I love the Jafar and Pinocchio pics! When are you supposed to go in the Animation building to meet random characters, on non Fantasmic nights, or before Fantasmic starts? I always forget! Either way, I'm going to be stalking that place on my next trip!

I'm with you, I don't get why SSR gets a bad rap...it's my favorite resort:lovestruc We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa in 2009 in The Grandstand and I didn't want to leave when it was time to switch to AKL. I like AKL...but I LOVE SSR!!!

The final moments at the World are bittersweet aren't they?

We have yet to do a KP Mission, but I think it might go on the "3 Things" list for Feb/March during our Epcot days. Surely we should be able to accomplish at least one! I think Henry will get a real kick out of the phone - he won't quite understand the missions, but Joe and I will enjoy those!

Too bad about the rain and the early park closing! :headache: But you did get a lot done for just one hour!

We stayed at SSR back in January 2009 and were kinda "meh" about it. I enjoyed the room, the overall feel of the resort and the view was AWESOME, so relaxing! :cloud9: but I did NOT like the hugggggge walk between our building and the main one. I did that walk so many times. Next time we stay there I will plan better and we won't have to go there as much - or we will get a room closer. :thumbsup2 I wasn't crazy about the AP offerings either, but I know I'm in the minority on that one! We should have taken more advantage of eating at DTD than what we did. Live and learn! Our next stay at SSR will be much better I'm sure!

I'm a bit behind. Just got back from the World. I agree that SSR is a lovely resort. I would stay there anytime, but my DH wouldn't. He doesn't like the location and there isn't enough extras to counterbalance not being close to the parks. (He loves the Epcot area resorts.) You really did get a lot done in an hour at HS. I sometimes like those short jaunts into the park. Enough to enjoy, but not enough to tire you out.

Great updates (so sad your trip is almost over!)

I think SSR is lovely, but so huge it is overwhelming to me. Maybe it was our room location - because I wasn't overwhelmed by the size of OKW.

Glad you didn't get caught in the downpour. From experience, it really really isn't fun.

I love the picture of your sister with Jafar - too funny!

I think you may have finally convinced me to stay at Saratoga Springs in the future. :goodvibes My main reasons for not wanting to stay there are that the studios are the smallest of all the DVC resorts, it's a huge resort, and I've generally heard really bad things about the transportation. But it does look very pretty-my mom really liked the recessed balconies we saw on our boat ride to Port Orleans. And they'll be having that new pool in the near future. :thumbsup2

What exactly is Vinylmation? I get that it's Mickey shaped vinyl figures with different character designs/logos/themes, but are they just for display or can you actually do stuff with them? Is it just the keychains that are a surprise? And do they sell them elsewhere besides DTD? The SpectroMickey is cute.

Finally, you may have said this at some point, but did Emma get accepted into the College Program for this semester?

Yes, that's partly why I need to get this one done. I can't believe how long it's taken me. :rolleyes1

This might sound weird but I actually kind of enjoy the concrete hallways. LOL! I don't know why. We stayed in a 2 BR once and that was so nice.

What a bummer that you had to wait so long for a DHS bus, you could've had another half hour or so in the park! You really did get a lot done in a short amount of time though. Love the Animation Academy, your Piglet is really cute :goodvibes

It did stink but if only we'd actually looked up the park hours. Oh well!

haha, yeah, once you get started on them you can't stop! I feel like I have a lot but then I see pictures of some other people's collections and am just like :scared1::scared1::scared1: because they get every single figure of every single set. I don't know how anybody could afford that!

I love the Animation Academy and I'm glad my sisters did too. It was a lot of fun getting to do it 3 times.

Hmm, I'm not sure when you're supposed to go in. On this trip and in April it seemed like every time we went in there they had a bunch of random characters. So I don't really know. :confused3

The 2 BRs are so nice, aren't they? We had one in '07 and our balcony looked out over DTD. It was awesome.

Yes, they sure are, no matter how many times we've been. The end of a trip is never fun. :sad1:

We have yet to do a KP Mission, but I think it might go on the "3 Things" list for Feb/March during our Epcot days. Surely we should be able to accomplish at least one! I think Henry will get a real kick out of the phone - he won't quite understand the missions, but Joe and I will enjoy those!

I'm sure Henry would love the KP missions!! And you'll have plenty of time to do a couple of them on your trip.

I can understand the walk. Luckily our building in the Paddock wasn't too far from the main building. But part of it too is that we don't really go over there too often since we're always at the parks and we get food to keep in our room.

Welcome back! How was your trip? My dad talked to my cousin's wife (I know I mentioned on your TR that my cousin was also running in the marathon) and they said it was really nice down there...not too many crowds and the weather was decent.

It was nice having one last little visit at the park before we left. And we got to do a couple of our favorite attractions which is always good.

It is sad but no worries, soon there'll be another TR to start!

Getting caught in any type of rain isn't fun. When we were in Disneyland the first time the one day we were there it rained pretty much the whole day we were there. Keep in mind this was in December, so we were in jeans, sweatshirts, and jackets. No raincoats. We decided to go on Grizzly River Run (like Kali River Rapids) because we were so soaked we figured we couldn't get any wetter. I swear our clothes gained an extra 30 pounds after that. LOL! Sorry for that random story...

It is funny because she was trying to have an evil look on her face which didn't quite work out. :rotfl:

I think you may have finally convinced me to stay at Saratoga Springs in the future. :goodvibes My main reasons for not wanting to stay there are that the studios are the smallest of all the DVC resorts, it's a huge resort, and I've generally heard really bad things about the transportation. YAY!!! I say go for it...the worst that can happen is that you don't like it but I think you would! I know everyone says the rooms are the smallest out of the DVC resorts but it doesn't seem like it. They aren't that small. I guess we're not that picky since we don't spend a ton of time in the room anyway. And we've never really had any big issues with the buses.

Vinylmation is basically just these random Mickey figures that, like you said, come in various designs. Most of them come in the blind boxes, which are the ones you don't know what you're getting. They do have some figures that come in boxes where you can see the actual figure. They're just a fun little collectible, kind of like pins. They sell them pretty much everywhere now...you can't miss 'em!

Sadly she didn't get into the spring CP but she is going to try again for next fall. So fingers crossed!
