3 days

as far as completing both parks is 3 days overkill. going 2 and debating if i will need 3 to get everything done. going when parks are rated slow/low crowds

We usually go in October and using express pass from staying onsite we can do everything we want to in a day and half/two days. I'd love to have 3 to slow down and really take it all in but I can't convince the rest of the family to do 3

On our first trip in late August (when crowds were considered slow) we got the 2day+1free deal. We couldn't imagine only doing 2 days, as having 3 made the trip much more relaxing. We were able to do everything we wanted in 2 days, but that certainly didn't include everything. Even by the 3rd day we were still finding new fun things to see and do.

Not sure if you have kids or not... ? My 10 year old son thinks 5 days is ideal. He loves spending HOURS exploring Harry Potter area (we once spent 3 hours in just Knockturn Alley alone). The Jurassic Park play area is fun to explore as well. I think 3 days you can for sure get everything done and re-ride everything you want. Two days feels a little rushed but you can get things done. More--you can slow down, explore, take time to swim, play golf, shop, do other things. I am always amazed when people are afraid they'll get "bored." Do you folks not know how to vacation? LOL

I feel that Universal offers some rides to just do and do. Kong on the left side and the right side offers different views so it is nice to do at least twice. MIB, I can do several times due to the video game effect. Spiderman is always great to do several times. So I would always spend the extra time to re do.

We always do 3 day park to park tickets. 2 full days to explore both parks and the last day to shop and re-ride.
we did 5 nights on our last trip and used one day to relax at the hotel and shop Citiwalk. Our next trip is a short 3 nights and I am already bumming we are not staying longer but we have a 4 night cruise as well.

My family would consider 3 days the minimum. We like to see all the live shows, explore the nooks in the Harry Potter lands and re-ride lots of favorites. It provides a nice pace that reminds me 'this is a vacation'.

Is this a first trip?

I think 3 days is perfect for a first trip. 1 day for each park; you'll want to try most everything at least once to see what you do and don't like. Then, 1 day to see everything you missed and everything you loved and want to do again.

Then for future trips, you'll have a better idea of what you really like and how much time you'd need to see it all.

Also, if you have HP fans, don't underestimate the amount of time you could end up spending there. Many people can make those sections of the park a full day by themselves. First time to HP, the kids spent 6 hours in Hogsmeade, DA wasn't even open yet. They wanted to ride all the rides multiple times, shop, eat, send owl mail, get wands, explore, and watch the shows.

Three days was not enough to do all we wanted but there were a couple reasons for that. The kids wanted an afternoon at the pool, DD6 got violently ill and missed a park day so we did a lot of redoes for her that we wouldn't otherwise have done, and we wanted to spend a lot of time in the HP areas. I think if we go again I'm going to shoot for 4 days.

We did 4.5, and to be honest, in January with EP, it was a little too much. It was too cold to take breaks to swim, so we spent all day in the parks and by the last day it was like "Okay, what do you want to do again?"

If you're going during a nicer time of year, it's perfect if you want to take some breaks and not be there open to close.
