I get mixed reactions talking to people about my upcoming WDW trip and DVC. In the morning, ran into a guy I did some work with a couple years ago. When he asked what's up I told him I'm going on vacation next week to WDW and I'm excited. He told me how he took his young family last year. We exchanged similar experiences of taking very young kids to Disney. His tone was definitely about the expense as I said he should take them again when they're older. Here's the deal with WDW, the cost is the cost. If you really enjoy it, you need to make the vacation a priority and that's it. Rice and beans when we get home. :)
I'm helping a lady in another division with something outside of my responsibility. I have some technical knowledge and they need my help. While working with her yesterday, we started talking vacation because I wanted her to know I'll be out of office next week. To my surprise, she's a DVC owner since 2001. She told me DVC was the best thing they did. Her kids are in their mid-twenties and still want to vacation with her.
And that's the way the conversations have gone. Pure excitement for DVC/WDW or luke warm or 'Why would you do that?'.

More reasons not to care what others think. :hippie:

Can't wait for Sunday!

It's so funny that you say "rice and beans when we get home" LOL! We do the same thing, and go all out on our vacations and then for about 2 mths when we get home we are extremely frugal since we just spent so much :goodvibes We do love our DVC though!

You bet. IMO, when I go on vacation I want to live BETTER than I normally do. I want to live like royalty and do all the fun stuff and eat all the delicious food and on and on and on. I have no problem cinching my belt in when I get home. Go and have the time of your life! :goodvibes

Most people where I live spend their summers at the shore. DH and I did as kids. I don't get it. I'd never spend that kind of money to go to the shore. BUT, they can go where they want, and I can go where I want.

I'm not sure I'd like the idea of rice and beans when I got home though. I'd rather live well all 52 weeks a year, then cut back most of the year for 2 great weeks. Just me I guess.

We live pretty frugally at home too and enjoy ourselves on vacation. I still have to talk DW into ordering a more expensive item on a menu when I know she really wants it.

We purchased DVC October, 2008 and WE LOVE IT!

Our eldest DS, 24 lives in another state and HE STILL VACATIONS WITH US!

WE LOVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO "CONNECT" AS A FAMILY!

I LOVE THE FACT THAT ONE DAY WHEN MY DS AND I ARE GONE, MY TWO BOYS WILL CONTINUE TO ENJOY TO WDW WITH THEIR FAMILIES!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2..EACH DS WILL HAVE 100 POINTS EVERY YR!!!:dance3::dance3:

TAKE THIS YR FOR EXAMPLE! 3 DAYS PRE CRUISE AT VILLAS AT WILDERNESS LODGE, DISNEY DREAM CRUISE FOR 4 NIGHTS, THEN 1 NIGHT POST CRUISE AT BEACH CLUB VILLAS! DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT!:woohoo::yay::yay::yay:

HERE'S WHAT I TELL FRIENDS...YES,ITS ABSOLUTELY A "DISCRETIONARY" PURCHASE..WE WERE FINANCIALLY ABLE TO DO IT, SO WE ARE SO SO ENJOYING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3:

You know, what I find is that there are ususally two categories to people fall into.... One is "been there, done that, don't really feel the need to go again", and the other, "loved it, can't wait to go back"...

The vast majority of us on here know which category we fall into.

You go and have the time of your life, and as soon as you walk out the door on your way back home, begin making plans for your return trip!

Some people "get it" and some people don't. I save my enthusiasm for those in the first group and just tell those in the second that we're "going to Florida"! :rolleyes1

HAVE A GREAT TRIP!! :)

Most people we know know we are DVC members. But for those who don't or don't understand what it is and wonder how we can vacation so many times a year because of the expense, I just say, "Oh, we have a timeshare" and kind of throw my hands in the air like it is no big deal. The assuming we don't have to pay for anything, they say, "Oh, cool, have fun."

We have these conversations all of the time. :lmao: Even our family wonders why we purchased DVC....except when they get to come along and enjoy the great villas!! :rotfl:

I often wonder why others pick where they go all of the time for vacation and how they can spend all of the money they do....but they like what they like and we like what we like.

I love having a place we can take family and friends and most importantly a place to build great memories! :woohoo:

Go, enjoy and don't worry about what other people think!
