i'm considering buying an exchange week from someone. will i have any say-so about unit being a two-bedroom lockoff or two-bedroom dedicated unit. i prefer the lockoff. thanks.
The owner can request a lock off, but requests are not guaranteed.
According to this thread, there are 274 Dedicated 2 Bedroom units and 230 Lockoff 2 bedroom units at OKW. Looks like you have about a 45% chance of getting one. My advice is to request a lock off and then arrive early to check in. You'll probably get it.
Whether it is a lock-off or a dedicated unit is determined when the reservation is made. If you are trading with a person who has a reservation, they should be able to tell you which type they reserved. If it's a trade through II, my guess is that it will be a dedicated unit since those are usually booked first by DVC (to allow the flexibility of breaking up the lock-off units).
If it's an II exchange you're looking at, be aware of the additional $95 fee charged at check-in by DVC.
Also be certain that the reservation will be listed in your name. II does have some restrictions about the rental of their exchanges and it's possible that issues could arise as a result. Those exchanges have even more concerns than a simple rental from the member who actually makes the reservation for you- in your name. Just consider all of the usual issues that renters have expressed here, plus the additional worry that you are NOT dealing with the person who actually made the reservation- only a third party.

If I understand it correctly, somebody traded an ownership week at an II-affiliated timeshare resort for a week at OKW. Now that person wants to rent that OKW week to you (for money).
First, that's a violation of II rules. The other person can give you the OKW week, but that person is prohibited by II rules from renting that week to you. If that person gives you the week, he or she should obtain a guest certificate from II (for a fee) so that the reservation will be in your name.
Now, I'm sure that the "you're not allowed to rent out exchanges" rule is broken all the time. However, you are taking a risk. And I would insist on a guest certificate.
The OP, pchpie, wrote, "i'm considering buying an exchange week from someone."
I read that as meaning that the OP intends to rent a week at OKW -- but not from Disney, nor from a DVC member. Instead, the OP would be renting from someone who obtained the OKW week through an II exchange. As I wrote earlier in this thread, that's a violation of II rules.
To answer the OP's original question, I don't think there will be a choice. It all depends whether DVC Member Services deposited a 2BR or 2BR-lockoff with II to facilitate an II exchange for the DVC member who was exchanging out of DVC.
By rule, DVC could change this as they see fit regardless of what the paperwork said. Neither II, the II member (exchanger) or the renter would have any contoll over the type of 2 BR unit. They could make a request though.
