We are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary at the end of December 2009 and we decided to spend a week at WDW to celebrate! DD20 and DS17 will also come so we have family time, but also have the opportunity to split off and celebrate on our own. We are going to book at 11 months at SSR since it is our home resort, but would consider seeing if any other resorts are open at the 7 month mark...but the last week in December will probably be very busy.

We have heard that the resorts and parks are very beautiful over the holidays and we are very excited!

Does anyone have any suggestions for special events during the holidays or "must see" places or restaurants?

TIA!

Plan on going to MVMCP one night as well as the Candlelight Processional, they are my 2 favorites. I love strolling through the WS at Epcot to see all the different Santas and I do enjoy the lights that are in the walkway back to future world. Also a must see is the Osborne lights in DHS.
Here is a link to some information in Deb Wills site http://allears.net/tp/holiday.htm
I love visiting the resorts to see their decorations, the gingerbread house at the GF and the carousel at the BC are the best (IMHO).
I always treat myself to the tea at the GF, I love sitting there and just relaxing and enjoying the tea and the piano player in the lobby and the beautiful decortations.
December in WDW is my favorite time to visit.

Congratulations!! We spent our 25th anniversary at WDW in Feb. One experience we had that we will have to repeat, was dinner at the California Grill at the Contemporary. We were able to walk out and watch the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom.

Actually, we drove away from the Dolphin to go to dinner and were able to see the fireworks from Fantasmic, which was at 7 pm that evening. The Magic Kingdom fireworks were at 8, and of course the highlight. Then while we ate dinner, we could see the fireworks at Epcot far off in the distance, Illuminations was at 9.

Seeing fireworks at all 3 parks on one night, but especially the Magic Kingdom, was probably the best part of our trip. Music piped in, with Jiminy Cricket narrating...wow.

Just came back from doing the same thing, 25 years and counting. Make sure to list your anniversary in your reservation. It will come up on every dining reservation automatically, and if they don't give it to you at check in, ask for the anniversary pin to wear EVERYWHERE you go that week. In our case, because we were wearing the pins and they were recognized, we received FREE MVMCP tickets as we were leaving the park at the normal closing time (so we didn't have to leave!), we were bumped up to the front row on two rides, got anniversary autographs from all the wait staff at Rose and Crown, an extra dessert at Tutto Italia, and got a personalized photo of Mickie and Minnie in front of the castle as well as anniversary balloons. You just never know who will do what for you. It was honestly the most perfect "magical" vacation we could have hoped for.

We're at SSR celebrating our 35th which was Monday the 29th. I agree, you must wear your anniversary button everywhere. We did a late lunch at LeCellier followed by the early CP with Angela Bassett and Courtney Vance.

Every cast member we saw wished us Happy Anniversary. When we returned to our room we had anniversary balloons and an autographed Mickey & Minnie picture waiting for us.

Have to agree with the above posters. We had our 25th anniversary staying at SSR (and the Disney Wonder) in October 08 and had a fantastic time! Everywhere we went, we were congratulated on our anniversary as we were wearing our anniversary pins. In the American Adventure, we were pulled out of the audience saying someone wanted to speak to us - and had Mickey congratulate us using the phone at the front of the auditorium and we were given a special certificate. One day we came back to SSR to find some helium balloons and a card from Mickey and Minnie in our room. We also had an amazing meal at the California Grill and watched Wishes from our table - we even got a free glass of champagne. It is just this attention to detail and the small magical touches that Disney does so well that will keep us returning. Already looking forward to celebrating our 50th there too!

Hope you have a fantastic time! :thumbsup2

ITA - Disney is a GREAT place to spend an anniversary. We were there 12/19 for our 16th and wore the anniversary pins and got so many congratulations. It was really, really special - and Christmas is so beautiful.
