I'm considering adding on 150 pts at AKV. Is it better to have 3 -50 pt contracts or 6 -25 pt contracts or does it really matter?

I believe its a good idea to keep your contracts under 100 points. Smaller contracts are much easier to sell and appear to fetch a higher point price. I think I would do the three 50-point or two 75-point contracts.

I agree. As long as they are under 100 points, they should sell faster down the road than bigger ones.

I'd do 50s just because 25s make it A LOT more papers to sign... :lmao:
this comes from somebody who just signed 4 sets of contract addons...

in all seriousness tho, I don't think there's a huge difference in the time in takes to sell 25 vs. 50pt contracts. They sell pretty darn quickly.

I'd do 50, closing costs are alot compared to the cost of 25 points. (If you ever sold them.) Meaning any current DVCer doing an add on probably would go for it they would probably go direct as there are no costs direct. A 50 point, may be cheap enough for an add on paying costs. IE cost less over all resale then direct.

as a resale shopper i was really looking for a 75 point contract and had to settle for a 50 becaues there just weren't 75's out there.

I was going to add on at BLT with 5-25 point contracts. From what I am reading, it sounds like it may be better to do a 75 and a 50. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I think it makes sense to break up into different amounts... take in consideration in and why youmay sell them. I would have in increments so you can potentially sell what you woun't need, but keep what you will. Another thought... if you want to will them to children... you could divide the amount into the # of children.

We only have one child, we're in our 40's she will inherit all our points.

IMO it depends on what changes you might anticipate going forward. Will it be likely you'll need to change the deed at any point, if you sold part, what would you likely keep. I bought 100 pt add on at AKV and did it as 4*25 partly because I wasn't sure if I'd keep all or part of it and if I kept only part of it, whether it'd be 25 or 50 points. All else being equal, and not needing to have equal parts for legacy purposes, I'd likely do it as 75, 50 and 25 with my second choice of 100 + 50.

I believe when it's time to sell, it will be easier to sell a 50 and a 75 than it will be to sell five 25 point contracts.

I would go with 3 50's. the idea (one of them) behind smaller contracts is that it will be easier to sell if you need to unload some of your points either for financial reasons or if a new resort comes along that you like better. I think more people will be looking for 50 point contracts over 25 point contracts.

Personally, I would go with two 75 point contracts, just in case you decide you want to resale later. When we were looking for a resale at BWV, we wanted something large enough that we could spend a long weekend during F & W Festival....but we ALSO wanted something large enough to spend a long weekend during Christmas at WLV. We ended up buying 75 points resale at BWV, and then 85 points at WLV from Disney afterwards. There's really not much you can do with 25 point contracts, unless you want to do a lot of split-stays, or just want to add on to an existing contract.

Any size contract you purchase at Animal Kingdom would resell fine. 3 - 50's, 1 - 100 & 1- 50, or 1 - 150. They are all good denominations to own.

I agree 100% with Jerry. Any small contract on the resale market sells extremely fast.:cool1::banana:

I agree!! I think 50 pointers would sell just as quickly as 25 actually.

Okay, I am far from an expert, but I'm wondering why not do one 75, one 50 and one 25? Then if you want to sell you've got options how many to sell. If you've got two kids you will one the 75 and one the 25 and 50 combo. If you've got three you'll just have to buy more points. :rotfl:

Or couldn't you do two 25's and two 50's?

We just purchased an add-on via resale and spent a lot of time looking at the offerings. There are several smaller contracts (35 pts and lower) that are still available, but the 50-pointers were snapped quicker than we could call. They basically sold themselves. Many of the 100-pointers were consistently available day after day when we were looking too. IMO, the 50-pointers net a winning combination of higher price and faster sale.

For our initial purchase of 160 points (not the add-on), I wish we could have insisted that our points be broken down. But, our Guide said we would lose incentives by breaking it down. The $8/point credit was available for a minimum contract of 160 points... and $8/point made it worth accepting the higher-point contract.

Out of 8 different contracts, the largest one is 150 at BWV. The others are:
VWL - 50, 50, 50, 65
AKV - 55, 55
BCV - 75
BLT - 86
They all have the same membership year, so can combine at 7 months if needed..and will be easier to sell if we decide to downsize. My add on at BLT was larger due to more points required for comparable stay there.
Also bought a resale for 25 pt which I put into my daughter's name along with mine just to get her into the DVC system as a member, so that she will be able to add on later at minimal cost. And I will be able to transfer points from my membership into that joint membership as needed.

So, do you lose your incentive if you break it down into smaller contracts? I'm thinking that would make resale later faster, but not wise financially if you take a hit up front going without the incentive?

Help, I'm trying to convince DH to buy 100 BLT points. :D

Thanks
Jenny

No, they will still give you the incentives for the total amount.
