Well I guess As my response was to your initial comment that Disney needed "More explicit signing with holding family activities close to the water's edge" I don't how much more explicit than "Alligators and snakes in this area - Stay away from the water" they need to be. I think that people need to take some responsibility and use some common sense for themselves and not wait for a warning sign for further instructions beyond that.

When I was talking about more explicit signs were needed, I meant more explicit than what was there....the no swimming signs. I'm very satisfied with the new (alligator/snake) sign and visual barrier.

What you think this was just something that made the news in the USA? It was all over the news print and TV down here for days this is "Disneyworld Happiest place on earth".. please don't think the worlds media don't like to share stories like this. It was all over our news for days.

I totally get your point and I don't agree, a quick scan of the British papers on the 15th of June and I found 7 links of video on the BBC.
Of course there will some places who don't get mainstream media but this is not run of the mill news. I'm happy for you to disagree, I just know how powerful the media is in playing with stories like this one.

Yes, Disney has been "taking action" on alligators but unfortunately they did not warn the guests about the dangers. Very sad.

Would a sign saying gators are possibly in the area have stopped this attack? Maybe but I truly doubt it. Gators can come out of the water and can climb fences so it's possible even with those measures an attack could've happened. It's a horrible accident that's it.

Yes because the parents probably had no clue there was an alligator threat. We stayed at the GF with my small children and I remember being on the beach watching the fireworks very close to the water. If I ever knew there were gators in that water I would of never had them be that close to the water but being from NJ I had no idea there were gators in the water. I think many Floridians find that hard to believe but many just don't associate the waters around beautiful Disney world with having gators in them.

As I said before a sign isn't a guarantee to stop something like this from happening. Gator attacks also aren't a common occurrence. It was an accident and that is that.

Until now alligators weren't a serious problem. If the attack didn't happened there wouldn't be fences or signs up right now. Should Disney have had signs up? Maybe. Would signs guarantee an attack will never happen? No.

I am not a native Floridian, but even traveling to FL from NY for many years we knew Florida has Gators. If there is water, there is a gator-rule of thumb. Disney's water is no different than anywhere else in the state - remember WE are the predators, not them. BTW, since there may not be signs, please be aware that snakes live everywhere, not only in water-so please do not walk on the paths or in the grass. Also, we have spiders like the brown recluse, which can cause significant health issues, up to loss of limbs/ death. Please do not come in contact with a spider. Oh, and we have mosquitoes, so maybe Zika warning signs should go up throughout WDW. Sarcastic yes, but you kind of get my point. You are responsible for knowing where you are - and common sense has to dictate. We can't have fences and signs that prevent anything, and Disney should not have to share that 'risk' with it's guests.

The biggest problem we have is that common sense isn't. Personal responsibility seems to be a quaint notion of a bygone era.

Though I somewhat agree, to be fair, I'm sure there were stupid people doing stupid things all around the world back in the day. It's just now that information can easily travel at the speed of light so we're more prone to hear about things we wouldn't have back in the day.
