.

I've always wanted to know what I spend on Christmas and finally this year i was organized and kept all Christmas receipts in a separate envelope. I pretty much shop all year long and just added it all up, $1,333!! WOw I think that's a lot. I have 3 kids and DH, plus extended family but I don't really spend more then 15-20 per piece for them (8 people). And we did giving tree at church and DS's classroom sponsored a child and we bought for him too. Geez glad I spread that out all year but seeing the total I don't feel I did too good:eek:

Now food for the holiday I didn't keep those receipts separate but I bet we spent close to $600 or more when you take in buying wine and booze, then my DH always spends around $200 at the Italian import store for our cheeses, pepperoni, olives and other yummies we get for Christmas. :santa:

$250 was my half of the PS3 and games my fiance and i bought for each other for xmas, $30 for my sister, $25 for my dad, $25 for my mom, $25 for my nana, $15 for my aunt, $5 for another aunt... $375 - Being a boy rocks.

Oh and boxing day I have some greasing to do for the folks that have helped my biz, but that's kind of a wash.

About 1200 here. Thats for my DH, 2 DDS and what they bought for me plus teacher gifts, mailman/garbage men, dance teachers and 12 extended family members.:confused3 I even made a lot of stuff this year and tried to keep the spending down. If I had to I would spend less but unless our income gets cut I'll be spending in the same ballpark next year. Holiday dinners and grocery shopping for Xmas dinner aren't included in that total, thats another $250 or so.

I have no idea...I make a list of what I want to get each person and pay cash (actually charged to a reward card but paid in full each month) but never total it up. My DH, the accountant, could tell me to the penny but he loves me and knows that my frugal heart couldn't take the shock.

I will do a "no buy" January and probably February, not because I overspent (as in spent money I didn't have or couldn't afford), but because I just feel like we've spent so much and my frugal self needs to recoup.

Cool, I guess I'll see you over on the "no buy" Jan thread soon! I wish I had someone to shield my frugal heart from the shock!

I spent
4 kids 200 each 800.00 total
dh -40.00
relatives 150.00
total 990.00

I tried not to think about it until i read this thread. I think i spend around $2100 on 25 people:eek:

We did spend a little more on the kids this year. We broke down and Santa brought DD9 her long awaited laptop (actually she is getting a netbook) DH wanted a new GPS, i asked for UGG boots, which DD is also getting.

Anyway after adding it up and posting it on here, i have decided that next year i will not spend as much:rotfl2:,

I think it is great that people can do Christmas on around $300

Hmm, let's see.

The big thing I bought was $680 of snowboarding and skiing. That's a use snowboard/bindings/boots for DS(10), night skiing season passes for both of us, unlimited snowboard lessons for him an unlimited ski rentals for me. I am not sure if that "counts" though, as I get the idea that other people here don't count their kids sports as "gifts".

Then there's:

My mom: slippers and 2 books: $55 total.

My mom and son joint: The board game Ingenious $40

My brother: Gift card to Barnes and Noble $50, framed school picture of DS $3.00 (for the frame)

My goddaughter: Alice's Choker from Twilight $30, Visa gift car $50

My son's grandmother: Gift TBD, definitely framed picture of DS and something else. Also, we already gave her a Christmas Amaryllis in a pot. Probable total: $50

My son (from Santa):

Small Wonder camera $60
Replacement Wii sensor bar $10
New snowboarding gloves $9
Vampire Teeth $12
2 Books $ 17
Visa Gift Card (I predict this will be use for club penguin) $25
Little lights you put on your finger tips $4
Remote Control Car $10
Batteries $9
Cheese Puffs $2
Candy canes $1

My dog:

Stuffed tug toy $20
2 Tennis Balls that squeak $ 3

So, either $460 or $1140

hahaha no way in heck do I want to add all that up :rotfl:

I'm thinking the exact same thing. I was wrapping tonight and thinking I have a lot of presents here, but I also love Christmas and we don't tend to buy for the kids all year long just because, so I like to have big birthday's and Christmas's. I also think because I spread it out over several months that I don't really feel it and it just slowly adds up.

Lets see I have been trying to keep a running total in my head lets see what it looks like on paper:

DH:50.00 Shirts, pajamas

DS(15): 350.00 New cell phone, dvd's (2 seasons of Friends), cd Beatles 2 album set, several gift cards, video game, Pajamas, sweater, beanie

DS(12): 350.00 Ipod nano, itunes, books, legos, video game, board game, pajamas, dvd, 2 DS games,

Me: 200.00 (netbook I decided to keep for myself)

Family gift: 400.00 Wii, Wii Fit with Balance Board

nephews: 65.00

Family stocking exchange: 80.00

Friends gift exchange: 40.00

Parents: 60.00

Total: 1595.00 Yikes, I had no idea!!! I think I need to lay down. The total doesn't even include stocking stuffers!!!

We are right around $3,000... For my 3 kids, my DH, inlaws, grandparents, parents, 4 siblings, 9 friends, 4 teacher gifts, 3 aunts, 2 nieces....

and a partridge in a pear tree!!

Merry Christmas! :santa:

Prior to this I had no idea, but its an interesting exercise!

We bought for 30ish people.

I think for my immediate family DH, DS14, DS12, DS9 - I spent about $1000.
No idea what they spent on me. All I wanted was my car washed ;) and they did that a few weeks ago.

My parents- I spent about $150
DHs parents - About $100
Neices and Nephews- $150 total- for 5
Friends and friends kiddos - $200
Siblings- $150
I bought school calendars for several people, Aunts, etc. $90

So that adds up to $1,850. Interesting ;)

I'll be there with you for the same reasons. I find Jan, Feb, March and sometimes April are all very easy for me to be extra good with when I use the and track via "no buy" on the dis!

I honestly have no clue...

Let's see... For both girls (dd9 and dd6)
I spent about 200 dollars at Justice on clothes and gifts for oldest and pajamas for youngest.
Between 100-150 at Target for toys for dd6.
3 cd's for dd9-45 dollars
Each girl getting a snuggie 30 dollars total
Clothes for youngest dd-about 50 dollars
Stocking stuffers- probably 25-30 each.
So for the girls combined probably close to 650 total.

Nephews and neices total combined (total of 5 - 3 nephews, 2 nieces) 65-70 dollars, but I got some amazing deals and sales for their gifts.

MIL and StepFIL- around 25 dollars combined (again, good sales)
FIL- 10 dollars (on sale)
DH grandpa- 15.00 (slippers)
My mom- 15.00 on sale
My dad- 15.00 on sale
Brother and his wife- 20.00 Combined gift (movie basket)
Dh best friend and his wife- 20.00 combined gift (movie basket)
My best friend- 15-20 bath set basket
Gift exchange at work (mine)- 20.00
Kids book exchange at school- 10 dollars total
DD6 gift exchange at Girl Scouts- 5.00
DD9 Cookie exchange at Girl Scouts- 5.00

Donated gifts to Toys for Tots- 50.00 total.

Oh and I got DH XM radio for his car- 150 total there,
and dh probably spent 50 on me (his was only more than mine, cause I chose to pay for a year of radio in advance)

So, all in all it looks like we spent over 1000 dollars this year. Most years I try to spend less than that, but it doesn't always work that way. I try to find the best deals and shop sales and start shopping early. This year was a little different, cause dd9 is no longer interested in toys, so what she wanted (clothing, and things from Justice) is a little more expensive than I usually buy for them. I used to be able to spend about 100-150 per child total on toys, but this year I spent double, and it seems like they aren't getting nearly the same amount of presents, but oh well. None of this was put on credit cards, so it is all good. :)

Sigh

About $700. $300 on the kiddo, $150 for my Mom, $150 for me and about $100 on smaller random gifts. I spent a lot more than normal, I've been having a hard time since my Dad died in Oct, spending money when I shouldn't. It should of been closer to $400. I also spent $100ish on a joint angel kid so I guess $800 if you want to include charitable giving.

Our family, excluding myself
DH - $280
DD7 - $65 clothes (4 outfits)
$100 in other stuff
DD5 - $40 clothes (4 outfits)
$100 in other stuff
DD4 - $40 clothes (4 outfits)
$100 in other stuff

Extended Family
DNeice - $23 ($30 value) ZhuZhu pet & Carrier and Snow White Blue Ray
DNephew #1 - $15 ($30 value) Leapfrog Microphone & Mr Potato Head 3 pack
DNephew #2 - $15 ($30 value) Trio Set
DCousin's Son - $15
DMIL - $50 ($125 value) 7 qt. Crockpot, 2 Sweaters, & Long Sleeve Tee
Ddad - $5 ($20) Red Lobster Gift Card - We split the cost between 4 of us
Dmom - $20 ($20) Applebee's Gift Card - We didn't do exchanges at her house, so I bought her something :)

Kid's Gift Exchanges ($5 - $10)
Girl Scouts - $10
1st Grade - $6
Daycare # 1 - $7
Daycare # 2 - $8.50
The girls each bought gifts for everyone in our immediate family. $20
Teachers, Babysitter, & Bus Driver all got a Glade candles and refills. I got them all free with coupons.

Gift Exchanges ($15)
DBro - $15 Guitar Hero World Tour for PS3 ($55 Value - got $40 GC back)
DDad - $15 Star Trek Movie

Gift Exchanges ($25)
DGramma - $32 Photobook (Value was around $32 - used a coupon - but paid expedited shipping $10 :scared1: - sp averaged out. A little more costly than our limit)
DCousin - $40 Boot dryer (DH said to keep the price *hush hush* because he knew his cousin would really like them)

And adding price of cards, postage, tape, stocking material (I made them this year), donations, wrapping paper, and an estimate of the cost of my gifts (We had a budget - I went WAY over) $1200

I've never participated in the no buy threads but I typically do no buy in Jan. and Feb. and then again in September. The excesses of the holidays spur me for Jan. and Feb. and then after the expenses of Summer camps, back to school stuff, and then the vacation that we take in early August...I'm motivated for September. Not buying actually comes easy for me. It's spending that stresses me out.

I'll check out January's "no buy" thread.

 I totally understand how hard this time of year must be for you. I lost my mom one month ago today....you're spending money when you shouldn't, I've been eating when/what I shouldn't...its so hard:sad2: blah.....I'm sorry for your loss

This will be the MOST we ever spent on gifts. Just doing our parts to stimulate the economy. :rolleyes1

I never really add the amounts up but I would approximate that we spend about $600 average total each year. DH and I don't really exchange gifts or we get a "group" gift if there is something we want around Christmas time. Some years we spend less and some years a little more.

We bought a new house this year (not counting it in the total :rotfl2:) and are having our first Christmas in the house so got more stuff than I normally would. Also got my parents a $$$$ gift.

$100 In Laws
$100 SIL (family)
$100 BIL (family)
$ 45 Other family
$700 Parents  (50" Plasma TV - their 51" rear projection died)
$1045 Subtotal on others

Normally we wouldn't have spent so much on my parents but their TV just died after 10+ years and this will cover Christmases and birthdays and Mother's/Father's Days for about 2 years. ;)

We finally relented and got DS's for our 2 girls this year (10 and 8).

$213 2 DS's (Amazon Lightening Deal)
$130 4 DS games & 3 Wii games (Got them at unbelievable prices! Love Amazon)
$ 18 Coat for DD10 from Landsend (after using $50 GC I had from last year)
$ 20 Lego
$ 20 Little Pet Shop
$ 14 Stocking Stuffers
$415 Subtotal for the Kids

DH purchased Borderlands PC game when it was on sale for $19.99 on Amazon. I'm not letting him open and play it yet. Saving it for him to open for Christmas. ;)

$20 Borderlands for PC
$ 5 Wii gun control (at Lot Less stores)
$21 Dunkin Donuts GC for 20 medium coffees for $20
$46

For myself, I picked up a few cheap things (a $4 bra ), etc. at Lot less and found things around the house that I had and never used yet like unopened perfume just so I had something to open on Christmas Day.

$14 Misc.

$60 Subtotal for DH & myself

Grand total for 2010: $1520

It's the most we ever spent but it also includes a $700 TV. ;) So, about $820 for everything else.
