To answer your question, there is no 100% accurate swab for swine flu. So who really knows. They are basing it on symptoms at this point. The accurancy for H1N1 positive is 50%.

My 18yodd had it and was down for a couple of days and recovered pretty quickly. She is one who usually gets HIGH fevers.

So more than likely it was the swine flu and not reg. flu. With reg. flu she would have been down for 7 days.

Again, no one really knows at this point.

DH, 12dd and I were all sick 2 weeks ago. Did we have the flu? I don't know. DD and I only had slight temps and dh had none.

I think we just had colds.:confused3

It's in my house and having my son at the drs twice (2 different drs saw him) they both said, right now it's based on the symptoms and if they are neg for Flu A or B- because only the hospitals at this point are even testing for the
h1n1.

But she said the test is not 100%... you will get false negs.

The symptoms my son has are: all over body aches, weakness, headache, sore throat, fever (for the last 5 days- and it keeps getting higher as each day passes) no appetie, upset stomach with throwing up, slight cold symptoms, horrible deep cough, trouble breathing- but he has asthma.

It's different then just a cold. This takes you off your feet - you'll know the difference between that and a cold.

Earlier this summer everyone in our family had a "summer cold". It started as a sore throat and it took about a week before you felt 100%. We never had a fever and you felt best in the morning and extremely tired by the evening. It started to get better on the 5th day. Some of the symptoms match the H1N1 but we never got the fever. I am still going to get the flu shot, when they are available. We might have already had it but then again it might have been so mild that we did not get the required immunity.

OK I am going to try to answer your question.....

I am an RN in the ICU where we have seen probably only a handful of cases....I asked the infectious disease doctor and he said when they text for H1N1 the first test for Influenza A...this test can come back negative 2-3 times before it can come back positive....but if your family was tested for H1N1 (swabbed for this) then like a PP said there is always a chance that it could be wrong....I myself was sick a month ago and I was never tested (due to a MD not doing it) but my primary is sure I had it.....

So I hope this helps...if not feel free to ask and I will try and answer it

Glad to hear your family feels better....

C. Ann-I know there have been many, many false negatives but I haven't heard that false positives are all that common. Can anyone who might know better comment on this?
