Where can I buy maple sugar?

The recipes in this book are very interesting as there is info about their origins as well.. I was copying a recipe for "Mashed Potato Doughnuts" and learned something new!

"It is to the Pilgrims we owe thanks for introducing doughnuts to this country. The doughnut originated in Holland where it was called "olie koeken", which means oil cakes. While the Pilgrims were in Holland on their trip to the New World, they learned to make doughnuts and brought this knowledge to Plymouth Rock, as did the Dutch themselves later when they settled in New Amsterdam."

------------

Interesting - huh?

Also - when I was a kid my mom used to make these really yummy doughnuts and I was wondering if anyone might know what they were.. They weren't like a regular doughnut (with the hole in the center), but more like a round ball, a little smaller than a tennis ball.. The inside was doughy, but also very moist.. No coating on the outside - just ate them fried as soon as they cooled.. Any ideas?

My friend makes it. He makes a lot of different maple products with his own maple syrup.

My mom used to fry little biscuits. We thought that they were doughnuts.
