2019 Trip Planners, are you going before or after Star Wars Land opens?

I know we don't even know when the new land will officially open but I'm sure many people who are planning 2019 trips are taking into consideration the new land may open sometime that year.

If you're planning a 2019 trip are you taking the opening of Star Wars land into consideration of when you go? Are you choosing to go before the possible opening, therefore waiting longer to eventually visit the new land? Or will you choose to go after the possible opening, brave the crowds and get to see the new land sooner?

I'm currently planning a 2019 trip as well and find it hard to pick a time of year to go. On one hand I love Star Wars, I'm very excited about the new land and don't visit Disney World every year. On the other hand I'm concerned about how bad the crowds will be for months after this new opening.

What are all of your thoughts if you're currently planning a 2019 trip?

I am curious the kind of crowds star wars land are going to bring in and if it will negatively affect the park. Not to say Star Wars geeks are bad people, but I have seen how crazy comic con does get.. lol

I will go one time before it opens and about a year after grand opening

Do openings of new lands generally increase the crowds in all parks? Or does it really only increase the crowds in the park the land has opened in? Does it pull people away from the other parks and lower the crowds of other parks?

Not usually but I think Star Wars will. Star Wars is going to be similar to Harry Potter at Universal it has an incredibly large fan base and people are likely going to be lined up for hours just to get into the land.

Just to make sure I'm following, which one of the three scenarios I asked about do you think will happen with the opening of Star Wars land?

I think it will increase crowds at all of the parks. Of course DHS would be one of the worst because it has the new land but overall all of the construction we are seeing across property is in preparation for 2019 and beyond crowds. 2019-2021 will be huge years for WDW.

We are going in June 2019 before this post I had no clue about Star Wars. This is our first Disney Vacation. I am super nervous about crowds. I have literally moved our dates 4 time and finally agreed on June so hopefully if Star Wars is up and running, hopefully it doesn't affect us that much.

Star Wars will not be open in June.

I think pre-GE opening will be a really nice visit. I suspect many people will hold off on a vacation and go after GE opens.

I was thinking this too. Obviously Disney World will never not be busy, but I wonder how much people waiting for Star War land will impact the overall crowds before it opens.

If I was someone who visited every 3 or so years, I would go just before GE opened, then 3 years later. But I'm the type of person who doesn't have to see something as soon as it opens.

We will be there mid-December 2019 whether it's open or not (I suspect open!). We don't mind the opening crowds (we've done Pandora and new Fantasyland very close to the opening dates) and went to the last Star Wars weekend at DHS so are familiar with the SW fan base - who are awesome and a lot of fun!

I am looking at going in June 2019 as well before SW. I, too, do not go every year. It will be five years for me. I will just plan another trip after SW has been open for several years. Like others have said, I think the opening of SWland will be a new kind of crowded craziness than usual when something new opens because it has such a huge fan base.

I am planning on going for the opening of SWGE. Till they announce the opening I can't be sure but will do everything I can to be there for it, even if all I do is stand in line to get in all trip.

We have opted out of WDW for 2019. Maybe 2020... if the intergalactic mayhem settles down.

I will probably plan a fall trip for 2019 and just follow along and play it by ear as to what those plans will include surrounding SW. I have no problem avoiding the area if necessary, nor with tackling the crowds just to see it. In short, it won't really impact when I choose to go unless something massively changes between then and now.

We are planning a big family trip in early June 2019. I am really hoping it is not opened as it will be crazy everywhere. We just decided that if it does open prior to June we will go to Aulani instead and head to WDW in 2020.
