2017 WDW Dining Plan Info

No dessert, but 2 snacks per day instead of one.

QS already had 1 snack (could be wrong, but i believe it had 2 snacks and 2 deserts a few years ago), while i like the option of replacing a desert with a snack, for the QS, its not a one to one replacement. If it were a one to one replacement, then the QS plan would have 3 snacks per day. So therefore it's technically a loss of one desert/snack per day on the QS.

For my family of 4, lets say an average of $4 per desert/snack that's $16 per day or $112 loss in value over a 7 day trip.

A cut none the less for the QS. I like the move on the regular plan.

I was bummed to read they took away the dessert. Even though we don't really enjoy the dessert but more the fact they were taking something away. Now I'm super happy to read they're making it 2 snacks instead of 1. That's awesome! I believe most of the dessert items are snack items also but we have a choice in how we want to use that credit. Yea!
I find that I am not always hungry when I finish a meal. I'd rather wait have have a sweet snack later! :yay:

I agree snack instead of QS desert is way better. Now I just wish they would allow you to trade in 2 deserts for 1 appetizer.

But, what you're not realizing is you lost a "dessert" and I bet the price either stays the same or goes up. You could have gotten a cookie, for example, and ate it later as a snack. It's my opinion that this plan now favors flexibility over value and for some, maybe that's priceless.

Exactly this.

I find that I am not always hungry when I finish a meal. I'd rather wait have have a sweet snack later! :yay:

And you could have done that on the QS plan. Just get an easy "to go" type of dessert and eat it as a snack later. You could have even made a bottle of water your dessert and taken that with you. Now, you've lost a "dessert".

I agree snack instead of QS desert is way better.
I agree with you too, if they had given you 3 snacks instead of 2.

are you talking about only the QS plan, then yes, you are down one snack. On the DDP, you still get a dessert with the TS, and not at the QS but you get the extra snack. Even.

The snacks you get at QS I feel are very cheap and for the most part not very good. I would much rather save this credit as a snack and go over to Main Street of Big tTop and get something (that I feel) is at a higher quality.

Exactly this.
Only for QS regular Disney I feel is a better value

Still a better option. Why get a water now and have to carry it and get warm when I can save that credit and get a water when I need/want it.

This I agree should have given another snack credit. But just one more push to get people to the next dinning plan

I do realize I'm losing a dessert but that's ok with me. There's only so many dried up little pieces of chocolate or carrot cake I can throw away. Let's face it, dessert on the QS plan is hardly dessert. It's just empty calories to me...

I mostly agree except for BOG, Harbor House, and Mara. I wish all the other QS desserts were as good!

Yes, I apologize for not clarifying further. My statements are only in regard to the QS.

I agree with the first part. I think the desserts at the QS places for the most part suck. However, there are a few that give you some amazing dessert options, but if you're not hungry for them then it doesn't matter how amazing they are if you're just not hungry.

I also think the regular DDP is a better value dollar for dollar over the QS plan. I also agree with you that getting a cold water and then having to carry it around with you isn't the most ideal of situations, but it's a way to make a positive out of a negative. You could always get a cup of ice later on and pour your water in the cup.

While Disney may be attempting to push people to the DDP, I think all of the DDP's are horrible in terms of value. I miss the days when tips were included. I use my TIW religiously when I visit Disney and find it far more to my liking. I order what I want, when I want, and get my tip "taken care of". I find I always spend LESS than I would have paid on the DDP. To take care of the "peace of mind" factor, I buy gift cards from BJ's, at a discount, in the amount of what the dining plan would have cost me. Then I apply these gift cards to my resort account for meals. I have never once spent over or come even with what I budgeted, proving for my family, the DDP is not right for us.

I think that's part of the problem. You're losing something, but Disney is emphasizing the "gain" of the snack and yet you're ok with paying the same price or more because Disney gave you flexibility. This is why the Dining Plans are out of control.

As I stated to another poster earlier, I agree with you that the dessert options, for the majority, are terrible, but did you know you can get grapes or carrots as a dessert? In the past when I used the QS option (when I thought it had good value) I would get fruit or veggies as a "dessert" and then eat them as an app with my meal.

I assume you mean desert and not snack...correct?

A snack is the same on all dining plans.

I feel the same about those deserts, yet I was paying for them within the dining plan. Now i've lost that desert and they aren't decreasing the cost, in fact it'll probably go up.

well, another idea is to drop the plans altogether. On the last couple of trips, we've paid out of pocket, and had a wonderful time, as well as the freedom to order what we wanted, maybe even just appetizer and dessert, as well as go to some restaurants that are NOT on the plan. Also, sometimes splitting items, and they would even plate them separately. At QS, we found the kids meals to be cheaper and 'just enough' rather than ordering a whole adult meal and tossing some of it. We came out cheaper in the long run too, and if you have a Tables in Wonderland card, it's even better yet..

I realize that this is a thread about the 2017 dining plan changes, but for us, eating OOP works out just as well, and usually cheaper, unless of course, you are getting Free Dining...

Regarding QS plan:

I hate the loss of the desserts, we really enjoyed them. Glad for the 1 extra snack added, but as pointed out the plan is taking a loss in value.

One thing not discussed is the fact that for the past years we have been able to substitute out the drink or dessert for anything of snack credit worth. So, you didn't have to take the dessert if you didn't like the carrot cake, you could pick a side item. I wonder if this option will remain with the drink. I would substitute my drink for dessert at several places. I'm ok with the fountain waters most times anyways.

Anyone heard if the substitutions policy is going away too?

The removal of the dessert is a definite loss for us. We don't usually get the QS desserts, but we swap both the drink and dessert for two "snack credit eligible" options. Doing that, we could usually use 4 credits to feed all 8 of us pretty well, especially at the resort. It was a ton of food and a good time for the kids to get items that I didn't like spending my snack credits on, like those $5 character icing cookies that they just had to have (and then did not eat  ).

Does the DxDDP still include dessert since it is not getting an extra snack?

I recently discovered the cheese cake at WPE  That place is a good value on the QSDP. An adult entree, drink and cheese cake is $25/pp after tax.
