2017 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

Without making this political, does anyone have any advice for a running buddy that now can't get into the country to run the race? She's had to cancel her whole trip, and while Disney have been so great about refunding everything for her (and even offering to book at a later time with the same discount) runDisney told her there was nothing they could do and they wouldn't refund her or let her defer. Is it worth continuing to ask, or should she just let it go?

If it were me, I'd keep asking. It's not her fault that this is happening. The worst that runDisney can do is say no. :confused3 It does say in their terms that there are no refunds or deferrals, but I have heard of them granting exceptions in the past (in the form of a partial refund via giftcard). It really seems like they decide on a case-by-case basis. I have heard email is a better method than calling.

I'm really, really sorry that this is happening to your friend. :(

Registration is still active. I think waivers will come next Tuesday - three weeks in advance.

But who knows!

I am SO sorry. :( Keep asking but I doubt it'll work.

One of DH's future new coworkers with a visa and a job and everything can't get in either. And this is a big intl week for his department with people converging for meetings which made me worry for one coworker (a fave of his coworkers) but thankfully he's originally from Jordan.

That's really crummy RunDisney!!! I totally think it's worth pestering them.

So went for my 12.5 mile run today. Pretzels and Swedish fish worked great!

I ran out of water again. I have a Spi Belt and two of their 6oz water bottles. No way can I add a third. Too much bounce as it is and my belt slides down no matter how tight I make it. I like the belt for my shorter runs though. I know of fuel belt, but are others I should consider? I'd like to be able to carry at least 18oz of water.

I also wore compression calf sleeves today and loved them! I also found seamless toe socks at the running store that I tested out and fell in love with those too.

This is what I like to use to carry water with me: Orange Mud Hydraquiver

It's a little pricey but if you sign up for their email list you get a 10% off code. It's a little tricky because you have to find just the right adjustment so that the pack stays in place without chafing, but I really like it. The single barrel option comes with a 25oz bottle. Way better than carrying bottles in a waist thing, in my opinion. :)

Yay! So glad it went well!

I have an Ultimate Direction handheld that I like. I think it holds 20 ounces. I usually don't like holding things in my hands when I run but this has a strap that goes around my hand so I don't really notice it. And it has a pouch to hold extra gels/food/whatever.

Thanks for the advice, I'll suggest she emails instead.

I just searched back through the 2016 thread trying to find any sort of tricks people used to find the bibs early (MarathonFoto was how people found them early and runDisney doesn't use them anymore) and my brain is FRIED. :faint: I give up, runDisney. You win!

I carry a 20ish ounce Camelback bottle with a hand holster thing with a little zipped pouch for ID. Any run 10K or longer I carry it.

Popping out of nowhere to say hello!

This is my first half marathon and my first runDisney event... I am pretty much terrified. I'm painfully, PAINFULLY slow and while I've been able to do 10 miles at a qualifying pace, I'm really worried I'm going to be swept or will finish so poorly that the whole experience will be embarrassing rather than exciting. Anyone else a slow runner? Is it still fun or should I brace myself?

I'm doing this by myself, so I sort of hope I get in the groove with people around me and track with them the whole time. Running alone can be cathartic, but sometimes it's so lonely!

Hello and welcome! Congrats for running your first half! I ran my first runDisney half at W&D. You'll learn fast that you become hooked! As long as you maintain the 16:00 min/mile pace you'll be fine and depending on your coral, there may be many behind you! You'll be fine!

Happy 1st Post!!! I am slow too and I find I am able to get my money's worth for the race because I am on the course for a longer period of time :-). Congratulations on signing up for your first rD and first Half. No need to be terrified. The crowd makes for an electric and supportive feeling and I suspect you will have a fun experience and find yourself signing up for another rD event as soon as you can.
