2015 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend ** Check-In ** May 7-10, 2015

I wanted to say thanks to Kim and Chiomaca for your great advice. If you remember, I had a terrible 8.5 mile run and was wondering what to do different for my upcoming 10 mile run. Well, I followed pretty much all of your advice and had a GREAT 10 miler last weekend! I ended up buying shot bloks, gu, and nuun. I never did need the gu but I was pretty happy with the shot bloks. Oh, and I had about 1/2 a clif bar before the run. If my run at Tink goes as well as that training run, I am good to go! Yay!!!!
That's great! I'm so glad you found something that works. Definitely good to eat something before the long runs, too. My go-to (when I can...) is a whole grain waffle with peanut butter and jelly. Do that about 30-45 minutes before the run, then a shot blok about 10-15 minutes before.

I just went to the running store today to get a bunch of things to try for my last few long runs. This upcoming weekend is 11.5... I was really hoping it would be outdoors since they've all been treadmill runs until this week (I managed the 30 min Thursday run and the 3 mile run yesterday outdoors!), but there is snow in the forecast now. :(

I got several brands of gel to try, some sport beans, and some chomps (not all in the same run of course :)). And some honey stinger waffles to try for before I start.

Hope you find something that you like and works well for you! I really need to go stock up again so I can make sure I'm prepared for some longer training runs. I mostly use Gu, but really found I like the Shot Blocks during SW.

That's so funny you mentioned OUTA as a costume idea; I was just thinking about that the other day!
What's great about OUTA is that since it's with real people, a lot of the "costumes" are every-day outfits that are repeated for multiple episodes (making them recognizable) and easy to translate into running clothes (like Regina, Henry, Mr. Gold, and Mary Margaret). Heck, you could even wear grey clothes and a brown or yellow visor and go as the Dark One's dagger.

For the long distances last year (starting with 5 miles), I stuck with the treadmill, and I did just fine for completing within the allotted time. I'm sure you will be fine with having to do this weekend's run on a treadmill. The key is to make sure that your split time is below a 15 minute-mile.

My long run pace on the treadmill so far has been around 14:00. The thing that is stressing me out is mainly that ALL the runs have been on the treadmill, not just the longer ones. This week is the first week I've gotten outside since training started. And those 2 shorter runs felt so hard, what with the hills and the huffing and puffing (which I'm trying to tell myself was partly due to the 25F cold air :D). I'm just worried I'm not going to be prepared enough! :)

I use honey stringers and eload this works for me. I don't use anything provided on the course other than water. I know what works for my body don't want to take any chances on course.

OK, I'm going to work on adding to the OP over the next few days with my next couple of days off. Some things I'd like to add:

- Any Pre-Trip Reports if anyone has started any/plans on starting any
- Meet Up plans so they don't get lost in the mix (Currently Saturday time TBD - but early afternoon possibly?)
- Hotel accommodations

So post anything you'd like me to add!

Well ... after confirming that I could I defer a travel agent-purchased bib until 2016 if I needed to (I planned on doing Glass Slipper and Pixie in 2016), I went ahead and bit the bullet today. I'm in for Pixie Dust!!

I figure I have until late April to determine if/make sure I'm ready for it. Here's hoping!

It will probably be a short and solo trip for me, since the husband is in Vegas the weekend before for work, so I doubt he will want to go to the California office the following week/weekend, but we'll see.

WOOOOOOOO! I think you can definitely do it, but at least you have a fall back plan if need be and just wait until 2016 (which alone is going to be awesome because it's the first 'big' anniversary for Tink). And those short solo trips are better than none at all, especially when runDisney is involved.

Yeah, I feel like I can do it right now. Plus, it will likely help me from being stressed out/nervous before the Disneyland Half!

I'll probably make travel arrangements within the next two weeks and see how much I can do with points.

Can't wait to hear more about it all pulling together :)

You're too sweet! I was able to grab one, but thanks for the offer!!

If you're doing a 14/mile pace on the treadmill, you should be okay. One thing I do to challenge myself on treadmill runs is to do a 2-3% incline for the whole run, then for the last mile, I slow the pace down to a slow jog and bump the incline up to 10%. I decrease by 1% each 1/10th of a mile so that at the end of my last mile, I'm running flat. I usually increase my speed starting at 5% so that I'm back at my original pace at the same time I'm running flat. I feel like it helps me at the end of the races. I get bored on treadmills, so I try to find different interval workouts to break up the time, too. I feel you on the temps though - my Saturday 11 mile run was 16 degrees at the start and a whopping 27 at the finish. My feet hurt for the first three miles and picking through the ice at the start and finish wasn't all that fun.

Congrats! And REALLY good to know that the travel agents will let you defer, I may have to go through them in the future. Who did you use?

I can guarantee you that I'll be staying at a Marriott property and flying in on an American Airlines flight.
I'm not sure about my flight yet, it might well be American. I'm staying at a Marriott property, too (Fairfield Inn). A little bit of a walk to the starting line, but it will be a nice warm-up. And Friday night dinner with Mom at Blue Bayou. I haven't decided on Saturday yet, either. I love Carthay Circle and Napa Rose, but might do those Sunday for Mother's Day.

In order to save $1000 US (our exchange canada dollar is horrible right now so I save more like $1350 CDN) I am considering cancelling paridise pier and going with our hojo reservation! Won't split stay either....too much hassle!
We are staying 8 nights so the extra $$ will come in handy for spending money and expo treats! We are DL regulars so I know the walk route it will be from the hojo to start corrals, is it really that bad so early in the morning? :scared:
I figure the only perks for staying at PP is being so close to start and getting early entry -- AP holders so no EE for us -- IMO it may not be worth the extra $$$$
I've never done a disney race nor 19.3 miles in two days -- will I survive not staying on site?
Also no parks for us on Saturday since our APs are blocked so it will be a hang by the pool day (kid loves hojo pool) and stroll DTD

So - this is what I've got so far! Flying in early Friday to SNA. Staying at Fairfield Inn, though I'm also holding a reservation at the Springhill Suites on Ball. Any thoughts on which is a better location for run-specific activities? Will head straight to the Expo to grab everything I need before checking in.

Friday night, dinner at Blue Bayou. Saturday, dinner at Carthay and celebratory brunch at Steakhouse 55 on Sunday with all my bling! I hope they have mimosas ...

The biggest hurdle I need to cross between now and then is ... breakfast. I don't eat breakfast as it is, and I barely eat before I go on my training runs. After a long run, it generally takes me a couple hours before I want to eat anything. So, I will have to start forcing myself to eat a little something before runs so I will be ready for the challenge.
