2015 out!!!

Help a newbie understand the rates please!!!! :flower3:

We are going on our first cruise in January 2014. Assuming we will love it I would like to book for the kids spring break at the end March 2015.

In order to get the best rates, do I book now when the rates are released or wait until I am on board and book with the 10% discount? :confused3

Can I move it to a travel agent later?

If a better price comes along can I ask for it to be matched?

It is 100% refundable deposit?

We are a family of 6 (2 adults, 4 children ages 2-9) so unless there is some sort of secret I'm unaware of :rolleyes1 we will need 2 staterooms (likely veranda)

Thank you! :thumbsup2

Anyone??? :hourglass
I think my post got lost in the excitement of the thread! TIA.

I know opinions vary widely. If you are used to anything on the east coast or gulf, CC will be gorgeous. If you live in Hawaii, there is a different level of comparison. We spent a week at Siesta Key last year and I can see how popular it can be, but it's not for us. I do realize though, that not everyone can afford to go to Hawaii. I also agree that manmade lagoons, including the one at Aulani, don't impress. The water didn't stop us from swimming or anything, it's just not a "wow" beach, IMO.
Been to Hawaii many times. Never been to an east coast beach before. The difference will be interesting. I was shocked at how different the water appeared at Aulani. I really didn't enjoy the beach that much and have told myself we will hang at the pools but visit other beaches on the island for beach time

I would book now and then reshop it once onboard. You may switch it later of its cheaper onboard. You may switch it to a TA, but I think the new rule is it must be transferred within 30 days of the original booking.

I can't see your while post so I will have to go on memory.
It is 100% refundable until a certain date out (90 I think). You can transfer to a travel agent within a time frame (or they can record the name/agency on board if you know it). They will not give you a lower rate later. You'd have to cancel and rebook but you'd lose your on-board perks. And yes you'd need two rooms.
Hope I remembered everything.

We are hoping to sail in October 2015. Obviously these dates haven't been released yet but would the advice be to do a dummy booking on Thursday or wait until they release the dates for later in the year?
What would be the advantages of doing a dummy booking over waiting?

I'd like something then too over school fall break.

Dummy booking are when you book on board a cruise. You get 10% off and on board credit for booking while on the ship.

There's no reason to book Thursday if you have no intention in sailing. You would want to book opening day when Oct 2015 rates are released.

Will you please let me know how it was? I'm dying to go!! I have a couple of other houses on my radar (ones that I wouldn't need to win the lottery to afford). Please PM me when you get back!

so hard to decide!

I LOVE the Fantasy itinerary and would love to sail on that ship but I am nervous about crowds of kids over Easter break so initially thought I would do the Magic.....

will decide by Thursday :)

Just sent in our request to get another trip on the Magic in 2015:cool1: We will then double check once onboard to see which price works out better. Thanks to those who gave this advice, it seems to be the safest way to ensure that we get the best price since we know the date we want to cruise.

Kind of sad I am really looking forward to our two Magic cruises way more then the Fantasy trip. Fantasy is awesome, but I guess like DD I have that emotional tie to the Magic with her being the first ship we ever cruised on.

It will be DD's last trip before college so we had to go on her favorite ship:)

We were on the Fantasy the week before Easter the last two years. The first one was the MV and that didn't have max capacity, but I would guess last year's did. It wasn't that bad IMO. I really expected much worse. We were able to get loungers every time we went to the pool. One thing that probably helped was we got to know another family who seemed to be out the same time we were. Loungers opened up around us and if we saw each other walking around we would let the other know which ones had just opened. Maybe our timing was just good. FWIW we had the same week before Easter booked for 2014, but will be moving it because DS's HS program gives lots of work over breaks and it will require an internet connection. Not worth the stress this time. :(

I was on the Fantasy this year for Spring Break and thought it would be so much more crowded than the Magic but I didn't find that at all. I never felt crowded. We had a wonderful time.

Just posted spring break pricing. Its really high on both the Magic and Fantasy (April 4, 5). Think we'll skip it and hold out for Alaska as originally planned. Boy, I hope that pricing is more reasonable!! Guess we have a couple of months to wait and see.

I didn't see anything for 2015 that caught my attention so I will wait to book the next time I'm on one of the Disney ships.
