Am I just picking premium dates or have the prices really increased for 2014? I checked the middle of March and the middle of May and it shows around $120 a night for preferred site.

They did go up. I checked November 2014 when the rates first came out and a premium site was $150 per night at Thanksgiving. I think they did come down a bit since then, but $120 in March is about right. We paid @ that much per night for a premium site this past March. Sounds a bit high in May, but you should be able to get a AAA rate.

UPDATE: I would keep checking the site for May. March is spring break and it will be as high as Christmas sometimes. But May shouldn't be too high. I think I'll book our Thanksgiving 2014 ressies because I just saw that they are down to $100 per night right now. Not sure why the rates keep bouncing around, but I'll take them where I can get them!

They did go up, but not by much in the end. When we booked our Jan 2014 dates the original total for our stay was 1362 per site. Now with pricing out its dropped to 1146 for the stay. Less then 100 dollars more then our Jan 2013 trip.

Every year Disney does some pricing shenanigan.

Last year they pushed Christmas rates to the ENTIRE full week before Christmas week.

This year they did two things that I noticed (besides prices up across the board). First, they JACKED the Preferred rates. Second, they YANKED the upcharge on the Tent/Partial sites higher on the weekend since so many folks come in for just a weekend visit.

The Preferred rates went up $9-11 dollars per night to where now Preferred sites are only $2 lower than Premium rates for 2014. So you're essentially paying for a Premium and getting a Preferred.

I stayed in a Preferred this past April and both loops I could see (100 and 200) were nearly full during my entire stay. Counter that with the Premiums around me 400-700 that had several vacancies during my stay. If the Preferred class has a higher occupancy rate than the other types, the WDW mgt bean counters are going to exploit it as they did the Tent/Partial weekend upcharge.

So it's not your imagination. Middle of March is a high rate season (spring break) and May is a little cheaper but I may drop over to a Premium with a AAA discount and actually pay less for a site than a Preferred (where it seems to be getting harder to get an AAA discount).

Ed,

I actually got a very nice guy on the phone the other morning in reservations and was able to get 2 premiums for July 4th and Halloween 2014 all with the AAA discounts. I was THRILLED! My deposit on the Halloween sites were $77 each. The rate is there, but most of them will tell you that the campground doesn't offer AAA discounts. And we know that's not true. :rotfl:

PS - one of those sites is for me, right? :rolleyes2

PPS - seriously, though, that is proof that there are a FEW AAA discounts at the popular holiday times if you reserve early enough.

I was not aware that AAA rates applied to campgrounds. I have written complaint to Disney since they have removed the passholder rates for sites during non holiday times. That used to save us quite a bit. Disney just continues to disappoint and being passholders for so many years and DVC it is really disappointing. Why jack the rates so much and why remove passholder discount. It is very sad.

What's even more frustrating than the disappearing discounts is the lack of consistency with res agents. About once every 5 or so calls, you get a seasoned agent that knows the discounts well and that's when you book all your reservations for the coming year....of two. LOL We are almost booked through 2014......

Can't understand why there aren't more discounted months. We have ridden our bike through the Fort 3 times in as many weeks and there are many empty sites. The preferred and 400 and 700 are pretty full and after that some loops had less then 10 sites being used. Seems like a good time to offer discounts.

We got a spectacular CAA/AAA discount for Feb 2-12 partial that she called the "Chippawa" rate... the rates are low already (and we camp a lot!) and it dropped it by another $120 or so. Crazy to me that camping in Disney World, even in the off season, is cheaper then camping at the same type of site in an Ontario provincial park!

Do me a favor..tell that to WDW marketing agents..lolol
