2014 Disneyland 1/2 Marathon Weekend ** Check-In ** Updated 7/29 with Corral Info

When do most people start arriving ? We are there from the Thursday and was hoping it wasn't going to be too busy. I think I am kidding myself :rotfl2:

I am driving up on Thursday. I am hoping for some park time before registration opens, and we just booked a room at the Grand California for the night. I have to be back in San Diego Friday afternoon.

We were able to sign up for the 5k. Me, DW, DD12 and DD9. It will be first run Disney event for us. Haven't even told the kids we signed them up yet.

Don't know if everyone saw this, but runDisney is going to be making an announcement in about 30 minutes! A lot of people are guessing it may be a Marvel themed run, and hopefully in California!

Guess we only need to wait a few short minutes to find out...:thumbsup2

Yep!!!

Reg 3/25

Wished I could run this one too.... Baby due in Oct.

I will admit that I am bummed about the Avengers theme. I am not a huge comic book fan, or even a fan of the movies. However, I realize many people are, and this should be a fun event costume-wise. Also, any additional races in Cali are always welcome!!

I think it is interesting that there is no 10K - just the half, 5K, and family race.

I would consider doing this Half just because I love runDisney so much and I am interested to see how the course varies, but that's the weekend of the Monterey Half Marathon which I already planned to do. Ah, well.

I'm in for DDD! This will be my second race at Disneyland ( did Tink 10k and half last month) and will be part of earning my second coast to coast this year :) Any advice about August weather? I know last year was very warm, but is that typical? I'm used to running here in New Jersey during the summer with temperatures in the 80's- 90's and high humidity so I'm not sure how that would compare to CA weather.
that's exactly what it was like last year

Jeepers! I've been working an awful lot of OT lately so I haven't been able to check in on the thread.

Heard the news about the Avengers Half earlier today. I can't say I'm super excited about it, but I know a whole bunch of people who are. Probably better for me that way, I wont be tempted to go for legacy for that too, and drop more $$ than I should. Now I just have to decide if I want to run the inaugural year or if I'd like to actually work my first half marathon shift (something I've been dying to do, but I'm always running).

Should be updating the OP sometime tonight as well.

I was so happy about the theme but then again I ran W&D as Captain America! I think it's always cool to have an inaugural medal. I am legacy Tinkerbell and have a strong feeling I will be for the Avengers race as well but I love the Avengers :) They probably will add a 10k later.

I have only used the DisBoards for cruise planning, just occurred to me to check for a race page!

I will be doing the Half with two friends!

The inaugural medal gets me too. I'm tempted to sign up just for that reason alone but it's probably not a good idea $$ wise. Here's to hoping I'll have a shot at another inaugural event in the future. ;)

Where would people suggest eating to carb load the night before the race? I will have two young kids with me (both under 3.5yo) so not wanting anything fancy. What would be casual, semi quick and fun in the area? Also, for those who have done Disney races before, how early do you suggest I be in the corral area? We are staying at HoJo so will walk/jog over to warm up.

My sister and I are running the 10K and the Half for DDD and to get our C2C medal; so excited! :cool1: :cool1:

Not sure where we are staying yet.

Now I need to go back and read all of this thread. :surfweb: I need all the Disneyland tips I can get; I haven't been back since 2008 and have never done a race weekend on the west coast.

I just got back from DL and stayed at the Holiday Inn on Walnut again and ended up cancelling my reservation there for the race, I really love this hotel at $100 a night but just can't justify $200 a night. I ending up booking the Hilton Garden Inn south of the convention center on Harbor, it's not within walking distance but with my AP I get free parking at DL and I ended up saving $150! It's got good reviews on TripAdvisor and Expedia so I have my fingers crossed.

All the good neighbor hotels have free shuttle buses during the race weekend

I am in the half marathon this year. This is my 3rd year. We always stay at the embassy south on race weekend. Free shuttle and free breakfast for 5 people is a bargain

OK, I think I got the new additions added to the runner list. I'm battling a head cold so sorry if I made an ooops! ;)

Kim brought up some news over in the Avengers Half thread about the Expos and picking up your runners packet. It's been posted for both the Disneyland and Avengers Half on the run Disney website under Runner Info ---> Packet ...

YOU MUST PICK UP YOUR OWN PARTICIPANT PACKET (WHICH INCLUDES YOUR EVENT-ISSUED BIB NUMBER AND TIMING DEVICE) DURING REGULARLY SCHEDULED HOURS. Individuals will no longer be able to pick up participant packets on behalf of others

Hmm...doesn't affect me at all, but that has to be a bummer for some people who just can't make it to the expo in time. I guess this is to try to make it harder for people to sell their bibs?

that topic needs it's own thread.. it's gonna clutter this and other race threads for sure.
