Last September was our first stay at GF and we fell in love! We were loyal to The Polynesian, but switched to the GF because of the construction. So glad we did! In 9 trips, it was definitely our favorite trip of all. We're staying again this September. Last year, we were in the Main Building Club Level Standard Room. We got room 4025 on the 5th floor. It was perfect for us! So perfect in fact that I requested the same room for this year. (I know it's just a request, but it would be great to have it again!) My question is this: Is that room a regular standard room, or did we get an upgrade that I was unaware of? The bathtub was HUGE and the pictures I've seen of the standard rooms have a regular tub.
Glad that you liked the GF, we are Poly transplants as well. i am a little afraid of what reaction my family will have after 3 trips at the poly.

We arrive at the GF soon and just received an email with the new option to check in online and "bypass the front desk". Do you think I should do this? what are chances they would give an upgraded room at check in (in person) as it is my birthday? We have gotten lucky at Disneyland a couple of times just asking for upgrades, although I know its not guaranteed. Or if this never happens at the GF maybe we should just go ahead and do the online check in to save time? thoughts?

I just realized that I have a whirlpool tub in my bathroom and the bed is very comfy. I would recommend 4206 to anyone staying in the main bldg deluxe king room, club level.

Typically the 5th floor rooms are either suites or deluxe rooms..I am thinking that the particular room that you stayed in can be the bedroom of a suite but can be utilized as an individual standard room..not positive though....if I am not mistaken those rooms have cathedral ceilings...and an enclosed balcony...And since you really enjoyed it then requesting that specific room is a great idea..I would have that request listed on my reservation with CRO..and also closer to your date of arrival ..maybe 10 days out be sure to give IPO a call and request it through them as well... We have found over the years that the GF is very good at trying to meet guests requests...:thumbsup2 :goodvibes :wizard:...

Being interested in spreading our GF wings a bit...lol..we tried just the opposite a while ago ..and stayed at the Poly...and while I was very pleasantly surprised and we had a very enjoyable trip...loved the relaxed Polynesian vibe....I will always be a GF gal tried and true.... :lovestruc ...

grannyminnie Hoping that you are having a wonderful time in California...:goodvibes...Safe travels home...can't wait to hear all about the trip!

Hope that all of my fellow GF fans have a magical Monday...:earsgirl:

Yes--it did have an enclosed balcony and cathedral ceilings! That particular room was just perfect for us! I stood on the balcony watching people in the pool and the kiddie pool every time we were in our room! Interesting that's it might be a suite bedroom because I think there were suites on each side of us. I already put in my room request when I made my reservation. Thanks for the advise on following up on that 10 days before check-in!

A question for those who have had short stays in the RPC: do you make dinner reservations, and if so, do you try to squeeze them between the hot appetizers and the desserts in RPC? Thanks!

I wanted to share a picture of the castle at night after wishes. From Grand Floridian you could actually hear 90% of the actual dialog and without having to fight the crowd to get a good spot or try to get back to the resort with the other people, love it.

By the way you know your in the Disney World zone when the TV in your room has been on the Disney World info channel that plays the elevator sounding music for almost 4 hours now and you love it.

Hello fellow GF fans....:surfweb:...

animalkingdom15 Beautiful view..wonderful pics :thumbsup2..Thanks so much for taking the time to pop in during your trip to share them! :goodvibes

MatzoBelle I think that appetizers from the lounge (particularly the large variety offered in RPC) , a sit down dinner and then lounge appetizers is quite a lot of food... So we typically either have a dinner ressie and then enjoy dessert in the lounge...or have a later dinner..enjoy appetizers in the lounge and then fore go dessert all together...It you are dining right at the resort you could probably sandwich a dinner in between lounge offerings...given that appetizers are put out at 5..and desserts are out until 10pm..but as I said..just an awful lot of food... ..this form someone who thinks it ALWAYS about the food...lol...YMMV...Happy dining!

marlaine That room is very nice....I too enjoy those cathedral ceiling...and don't mind the enclosed balcony either...and such a nice view with all of the "happenings" ...I bet that you will be enjoying that view again on your next trip! :thumbsup2

Hope that everyone is having a terrific Tuesday... princess: preppy GF gal who has now started planning ADrs for our fall trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :upsidedow :lovestruc :cloud9: ...

That is such a nice view, hope you are having a wonderful time!

I just did my online check in. I requested a ground floor because I hate elevators and I also request boca chica. I was going to request big pine key but I was concerned if I book a ground floor room my view would be of the back of the pool house. Was I correct in requesting boca chica then???

what about sago? thoughts on that building

One more question. How long is the walk from the GF to the Poly. Is the pathway there clearly marked as well?

Thanks for the thoughtful reply re: scheduling dinner, BlueSkies! I'm thinking Citricos will have to await another trip because I want to maximize consumption in the lounge.:squirrel:

We will be at the villas in November. The 13-19. What are the chances it will be decorated for the holidays. We will be in a 1 bedroom lake view. How long is the walk from villas to main building. I've been looking for a trip report but can't find one. Does someone know of a good one.

I'm so glad you can see Wishes from the GF! I'm not a fan of staying in the parks late, the crowds after the fireworks are something I prefer to avoid!!

We walked it from Poly To GF last year and I think it took us about 15 minutes but we were walking with three children. One only 3 years old.

Yes a lot of Big Pine Key will be blocked by the pool house on the ground floor. Oh and yes the walkway to Poly is marked on a few signs from what I remember.
