We're here at SL now and I'm a little disappointed in the Christmas decorations. I guess I was spoiled by the main building.

There just isn't a lot of room there I think.

Why not do what I did?
Over the summer I would request an adult beverage and walk over and sit in the main lobby and enjoy the piano.

Or in this warmer year sit outside and enjoy the beautiful flowers and reindeer decorations.

Hope you have a great trip!!

Thanks trishadono, that's exactly what we did. :). We're still having a great trip. Happy Holidays! :santa:

Going back home to The Grand for the weekend!

Can't wait! This time we're in a two bedroom villa! Bubble tub and bath bomb here I come!

This will be my second stay at Christmas time... So excited I can't stand it!

I stayed in the 2br for newyears weekend in 2014. I so loved that tub!!

Enjoy

We leave on Monday-first two nights at AoA and then a week at GF. I have to pack for 7-we have five kids and that is and of itself is an adventure. just imagine us at the airport! I now have all this doubt on various decisions, should have gotten different tickets, should have booked different dining argh! Wish me luck
I have a AoA trip coming up. Pm me any feedback if you can.

Sounds like a fun split.:flower1:

I will be staying in a 2BR Villa in May and can't wait. Any details about the room and location in the building would be great for our room request. Enjoy!!!

Does anyone know when the band or pianist play in the lobby? Does it still start at 3 pm?

Yep..starts every day at 3pm..and alternates sets with the Grand Floridian Society Orchestra....:rockband:

@pas130 Glad you are having a great time! The pics are adorable and made me smile even on this dreary Monday morning.

Me too....:thumbsup2

We came back today around 330 and the pianist was playing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer:)

Loving all of your pics..so glad that the Pas clan is having such a grand trip!! Oh to be in the lobby listening to Rudolph ...:cloud9:

When she was at the Poly this morning she exclaimed I like Sugarloaf and that's where we should stay next time!

Smart girl!! :cutie:

We're here at SL now and I'm a little disappointed in the Christmas decorations. I guess I was spoiled by the main building.

Usually SL has a mid sized tree and several wreaths on the walls near both of the building entrances...but that's about it... not sure if they have that this year tho??...Of course there is nothing like the grandeur and the decorations of the main building....:cloud9: Enjoy!

Great tips Trish :goodvibes The entrance to the main building is so very lovely at this time of year...all of those poinsettias...and the beautifully lit reindeer...we have taken a family Christmas photo or two there over the years....

:dance3: Lucky you ..enjoy! We don't have a whole lot of villa photos around here...maybe you can come back and share a few....:goodvibes

Congrats!! :cheer2: May is one of the nicest times of the year to visit the world! I am not so familiar with the villas..except for some touring when they were new....they sure are nice! But there are a few posters that I think can help with suggestions...I'm lookin at you ..Candy, Trish and Goofy4prez ( if I remember correctly).....

~ Looks like the Skippers Canteen is doing a soft opening....and there are some reviews over on the restaurant board...I sure would love to snag a ressie for our next trip....Keep you all posted..I have been stalking the Disney dining web site...lol...Hey its always about the food isn't it!!!

Hope that all of my fellow GF fans are having a terrific Tuesday...:earsgirl: preppy GF gal who is doing the less than 60 day dance! :dance3:

I'll post back here when we get back from our weekend jaunt for Mickey's Christmas Party.

It's my understanding that the standard views face the parking lot and monorail line and the courtyard/ beach pool. The lake views are of Seven Seas Lagoon. We will be in a standard view. I've requested the highest possible floor. This will be my second stay at the villas. We were there this past October for our anniversary. I didn't get either of my location requests then, but we had a fantastic one bedroom on the third floor with a view of the monorail line and wedding pavilion.

Like I said: CAN'T WAIT!!

You know, Blue Skies, I'm rather new to forums, so I need to figure out how to post pictures. I have some great pictures of the one bedroom villa we stayed in for our anniversary this October past.

I don't even know how to post tickers or banners in a signature... Time to start looking for how-to's...

Hello from the UK! Our online check-in opened yesterday for our Disney Wedding trip, so excited! :yay:

We definitely know it's not expected at all, but we were wondering whether requesting a preferred building would lessen our chances of *maybe* receiving an upgrade upon arrival seeing as it's a special occasion?
My worry is that if we don't request our preferred building in advance, and then we don't get any pixie dust, they might put us anywhere (not that I mind too much, it is the GF after all!)

We are currently booked in for a garden view outer building and was thinking of requesting Boca Chica upper floor, so even a theme park view would be amazing!

What would you guys do? Are they more likely to upgrade if we haven't requested anywhere specific? Thanks so much - love this thread and can't wait to stay in the GF!

Whether you do/don't do online check in or whether you make any requests have zero affect on whether you would possibly get an upgrade. It is extremely unlikely to happen so I would definitely request what you want.

Thanks!!! I have them bookmarked now. I plan on using Touring Plans to help request a specific room. Doing a quick RunDisney trip in April and staying at the poly so planning on taking a walk by the the Grand to see what we are in store for in May.

Hey everyone. I'm trying to choose my very first deluxe resort to stay at and I'm kind of leaning towards the GF. I'm reading a lot of complaints about noise between rooms. I would love to hear the opinion of people who have been there a few times. It's such a gorgeous resort!

I have not found it to be any noisier than any other Disney deluxe resort. Noise will often be determined by the guests around you and there is really no control over that.
If you mean something like ambient noise outside the resort, I also think it is about the same. There are boat horns, firework noise, EWP, and grounds work of some fashion at all the resorts.

The noise between rooms can be mitigated by asking for a non connecting room. The connecting door amplifies your neighbors voices etc. I also request a quiet location.

The decorations are just beautiful inside the main building!!

And of course the Gingerbread House! I think the smell is better in the Contemporary though.

Happy Holidays or May the Force Be with You (depending on your prospective at WDW right now!)

We love Boca Chica garden view. Nice view of the courtyard and pool. Central location.
