*2013* epcot food & wine festival 9/27-11/11

Thanks for all the info on the dining events! :thumbsup2

Sadly the only signature dining experience that will be available when we are there (10/30-11/3) is Kouzzina. But with a $160/pp pricetag, its just not worth it. However we are very excited to try the Spirits Confidential & the Sweet Sunday!!!:cool1:

Can't wait!! :goodvibes

Anyone have thoughts about the Parisian breakfast? Sounds very tasty, but I have a feeling it might not be THE best thing to eat the morning of the TOT run for me. And the following Saturday we'll be over at Universal...though that day IS my birthday and I could certainly make us delay more Butterbeer for a couple hours. :)

I have to admit I am disappointed by the "fake haggis"
◾Vegetarian Haggis ....

....I just feel it is not a true representation of the culture's food experience.

Something I noticed while visiting Ireland (bear with me) in the 90s was how open the place was to vegetarians. If you visited an "Irish Pub" in the States it was all meat meat lamb meat fish, but actually IN Ireland I had some of THE best vegetarian meals of my life! It was as though the Irish who came to America and opened pubs got stuck in the food of when they lived there, and didn't quite realize that their country had moved on. (I notice the same thing with my Korean MIL...she says this attitude and that belief are the ways of her people...all the while her sisters, who never left Korea, haven't had that attitude or belief in decades).

So it's entirely possible that griddled vegetable cakes are totally popular there and that the culture NOW is very open to vegetarian options.

Or they feel they would only sell 10 servings of the animal-based stuff over the entire festival, and opted to give us veggies a chance. ;)

Ever since I saw the bannoffee tart mention I cannot get Love, Actually out of my head, when Keira offers up bannoffee pie. :)

We're also thinking about the beer dinner also but I'm kind of worried about Disney's definition of beer - don't want to hear "your first course is paired with an authentic Belgian speciality from one of our oldest breweries, Stella Artois"

Or better, Blue Moon. :):headache:

I may be imagining this but I think I remember hearing something about how "real haggis" isn't actually allowed in the US due to the way its made. I can't remember the specifics but I think they said something about some of the ingredients that are in aren't allowed or something - it might be the bladder covering that I'm thinking of. Anyway this could well be to do with why they've gone down the veggie root or the gross out factor. Either way I guess its just them trying to be a bit authentic but not really touching the mark.

I have been served real Haggis at a restaurant, during a Burns Night dinner here in Delaware so I assume it is not illegal. Mayhap they had to make some adjustments if some of the parts are not allowed. It's a stomach they stuff it in BTW. Really not much more gross that a sausage casing I promise.

I REALLY am all for the Veggies having a chance. I like seeing plenty of variety for vegetarians. Or for anyone with dietary restrictions.

But still, that dish is so "unusual" in America and so sensationalistic because of the types of Meat used (ok, meat parts) that I feel that not serving the Real thing is cheating. Again, I think they could either do both versions or try offering a different dish (like Bridies) as a veggie option.

Mmm.. actually a veggie Bridie sounds really good. I would get in line for that! (I like both Meat in veg equally) I think by the end of my vacation I will be willing to commit acts of depravity for a Spinach Salad.

Looks like the beer selection is slowly improving...Rogue and Cigar City appear this year but some of the beers at the Craft Beer booth continue not to really be craft such as that dreadful Leinenkugel stuff.

I agree that they are stepping up the beer overall, though I disagree with you about Leinekugel - it is a shandy which is what it is (beer mixed with fruit drink - lemonade in this case but could be cider or other options). They are an old brewery that does more than that - just what they have gotten popular with is their shandy

No Greek Salad? No Mai Tais? My wife is going to be crushed!!!!! Who do we complain to?

Now owned by Miller, not saying that people shouldn't drink what they like but they are definitely not craft anymore. And to me a shandy, radler etc. really isn't beer, just some other type of drink (I know others may not agree). There is still way too much AB, Miller etc presence at a booth labeled as craft.

Yes, the beers are better. I like Rouge Chocolate Stout, Kona Pipeline Porter (I know- owned by a bigger co now) and Cigar City. I also love Iron Horse Fairy Tale Cuvée. Maybe they will be at PFTS again too.

We will do PFTS with the reserved seating if we can get it and some demos. I am debating between the Narcoossee's Signature Dinner ($140), the Champagne Frunch ($99), The Hibachi Experience ($120) or a Tequila Lunch ($75.) I just noticed Spirits Confidential ($80) has food too, so that may be a better deal than I thought, but we were planning on going to Halloween Horror Nights that night. Too bad it is not offered on a few nights. I would have liked the The Burns Supper or the Scotland, Land of Food And Drink too but we will not be there for those.

Thanks for answering! I guess it wasn't the States I was thinking of then. In which case I have no idea why they've gone veggie and have never understood why there is such a thing as veggie haggis as it really defeats the purpose doesn't it? (And we do have it over here in the UK too so it isn't just an American thing unfortunately).

Generally, the chefs do book signings after the seminars. The key is to get to EPCOT right away in the morning, go to the festival center, and get your wristband. That's kind of like a "fast pass" for the signing - all those with wristbands (in my experience) will get their books signed and they have a disney cast member who will take a picture with your camera with the chefs during the signing. If you don't have a wristband, you aren't guaranteed to get your book signed. Similarly, even if you go to the seminar, you aren't guaranteed to get your book signed. The wrist bands are key!

Also, as a tip, we pre buy the books from amazon and bring the books with us - much cheaper than buying at Disney!

Does anyone know is it just one autograph per person? My sister would love Robert Irvines autograph but so would I and she's not travelling this time so wanted to check if I can take two books or just one

All beer is good. Some are a little better than others. My absolute favorites Are Impaled Ale and Harp. Go figure.

HARP? Really??? Just when I was starting to think you were kind of cool. (j/k)

:jumping1:

Interesting that they're listing the numbers available for each sig dinner...was going to plan on V&As as the really special this year - trying with two phones on booking day...but with only 16 seats - better have a back-up! (went a few yrs ago and there were much more than that at the dinner - though perhaps the other folks there were "special guests" of F&W - think they placed all of us from the general public at one table...)
