We arrived here post Fantasy cruise and I have already been down the Flying Jib twice...get out of my way kids! LOL!
I do have a question. We were offered a first floor room, so we wouldn't have to wait and took it. The room has a musty smell. Is this typical or should I call housekeeping?

Just checking the ticker... I am in need of a Disney vacation!

Teena, Hope all goes well with Bob's surgery and he recovers quickly! You and Bob are in my thoughts and prayers.

Call housekeeping. That is not normal.

Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers everybody. They are doing the artery on his neck this Monday. Its over 90% blocked. The other side will be done in about three weeks. Its around 60% blocked. Thank goodness his eye doctor suspected during his routine six month exam (he has cataracts) and sent him for an ultrasound and then fixed him up with a heart specialist ASAP. He's at a 95% chance of a stroke. They put him on high doses of aspirin until the surgery. That woman (eye doctor) saved his life.

Wow.. just wow! Thank goodness for the eye dr!! The eyes are the key to everything... a few years ago the eye dr detected issues with my husband as well. Nothing as serious as Bob, but could have been if left untreated. The lesson here is to make sure you see your eye dr at least once a year!

Teena, so glad the blockages were found when they were. Pretty amazing how those sorts of things can be detected by regular exams, even outside of the area of concern. Many thoughts and prayers that his surgery is textbook and that his recovery is swift.

Yea for the eye doctor!!! We're sending good thoughts and pixie dust your way!

Wishing you luck from Massachusetts Teena

Scary stuff

Checking into beach club tomorrow after 5 days at POR. It's our first time at both resorts. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at POR with lots of pixie dust. Hubby is a little worried we will be disappointed at BC but I'm hoping its as wonderful as POR.
Hubby and I have a date night planned for tomorrow with the little kids booked at the sandcastle club. Should we be able to definitely be in our rooms by 4 pm to get ready and if we use bell services to transfer our luggage should we be able to expect it to be here by 4? (We do not have a car). Thanks for any help!!!

If I were you I would do it this way:

Put the stuff you will need that night in a separate bag and hand carry it over to the resort when you check in.

You can then store that bag with Bell services and be on your way until you need the bag and ransom it from Bell services. Doing it this way, with just the stuff you will need for date night, will relieve you of any worries that your luggage may not be there in time for the big change of clothes in your new resort's room.

Here is how luggage transfer works between any Disney Resort:

On check out day from your 'old' resort you call Bell services and tell them you need to transfer your luggage to the 'new' resort. Bell services takes your bags, tags 'em and gives you a receipt.

HERE IS THE IMPORTANT PART:
Bell services does NOT transfer your luggage from the old resort to the new one until AFTER 3:00 PM

The reason they do this is because technically Disney does not have check in until after 4pm (some resorts vary the time). Many people get confused because they MIGHT be able to get in their room early and then their TRANSFERRED luggage is no where to be found until late in the afternoon.

Knowing how luggage transfer BETWEEN DISNEY RESORTS works will help you decide how to transfer the items you will need on transfer day.

Remember, you can STORE items that YOU drop off with Bell Services and access them repeatedly during the time Bell Services is storing them for you.

This includes check out day when you can run to the parks and then, if you have time, shower at the resort or even chage into your bell services stored swim suit and go for a dip in the pool before your departure from WDW.

So there you have it! Using this information will take the worries out of your BC/YC/BCV stay and allow you to go full speed ahead with your vacation. I think some of the time that people get upset with problems at the hotel that they are staying at is because they don't understand how things really need to work.

They make assumptions, like in this case, that since the room is ready early, the luggage should be there early. If you want your luggage available as soon as your room is available, the best thing to do is deliver it yourself to the resort as opposed to waiting for Disney to deliver it. IF YOUR ROOM IS NOT READY, BELL SERVICES WILL STORE YOUR LUGGAGE. It's true that you will have to do all the "Lugging" of the luggage but that is the price you have to pay to have it at your fingertips when you need it.

IF your room should be ready EARLY, you lugging the luggage might pay off for you. Keep in mind that during the summer high season, early room availability becomes much more difficult to come by. This is just a fact of hotel life so please be patient with the staff at the hotel!

And now a couple of BC/BCV questions. DH, DS(19) and I will be at BCV in a one bedroom villa a month from today. Yay!

When I booked my reservation by phone, DH told me to ask for a higher floor which I did. However, after reading about the different balconies, when I did online check-in, I requested a full balcony. My question is: are high floors and full balconies mutually exclusive or do some higher floor rooms have full balconies? Should I change my request to a lower floor if I really want a full balcony? I know requests are just requests, but I want to give myself the best chances.
Thanks!

Here is a picture of the BVC's that overlook the villa's pool. As you can see from the picture, all of the villas will have a balcony for the living room. All of the studios have a balcony. The room without a balcony is the master bedroom, although many of the master bedroom's have balconies. I'm not exactly sure what they consider a full balcony, but as you can see from the picture, there are some dormer balconies (closed) on the top floor. Since you have a one bedroom villa, you will get either one or two balconies. :) Maybe a request for a full balcony is a request for a balcony for the master bedroom. I really am not sure about that.

dd53, I entirely agree with Ninja Mom. We've done many split stays - sometimes we hop in a cab early in the morning and bring our luggage along, and sometimes we let bell services transfer it for us. If we let bell services transfer it, we have absolutely no expectation that we'll see that luggage before that night. If it arrives early, great! But if not, we have everything we need for the rest of the day and night in our park bags, so no worries.

For example, when we transferred from BC to CR for MNSSHP last year, and we needed our costumes by 4pm, we took a cab and brought our own luggage along. On the other hand, when we transferred from Poly to BWI this year, we threw our swimsuits in our park bags, let Bell Services transfer our luggage, and spent most of the day in Epcot.

In your case, if you need anything around 4pm, I'd take the safe route - grab a cab and bring your luggage along. It's a quick cab ride - we used on when we transferred from POFQ to YC last year (and we brought our luggage along that time, too!)

Oh, Couchy! I know the feeling! I turned in my grades and keys yesterday. Welcome summer!

Attn Buzzy:

I think I ran into a relative of your while mountain biking on some trails in the woods today. I ran into pesky the mosquito not 10 minutes after applying bug spray. If you are relate can you kindly ask him to refrain from coming near me?

Thanks,
Couchy

So glad they discovered things before he had a major stroke.

Will be thinking of you and Bob! :goodvibes

Oh no! Your Buzzy is of nobel heritage and is not related to the lowly mosquito! I was born in the dumpster of the Yachtsman Steak House and I was raised amongst the flora and fauna of the BC/YC resort. I met Mrs. Buzzy during her "bar fly" era when she was hanging out at Hurricane Hannah's. Even to this day, when Mrs. Buzzy gets hold of a maraschino cherry she gets that far away look in her eye and gets lost in her thoughts of her younger days, sans children, foot loose and fancy free!

Now I roam the grounds of the resort, looking for guests to 'help' as they enjoy the resort. I cannot think of a more nobel occupation for a resort fly!

Signed, Buzzy the Fly, your Disney resort guy!

Can we bring a cooler of adult beverages to Stormalng Bay? No glass of course but is a cooler allowed.
