Ahem! I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaacccckkkkkk! :rotfl2:

I am excited to say that our family will be returning to the BC/YC next summer! This year (in April) we had a great 10 nights at YC CL and next summer, we will hop over to the other side and are booked at BC GV CL for another 10 nights from 8/16/14 - 8/26/14!!! :cool1:

:cool1:

So, what should I know about the GV CL rooms?

Yay. More August Clubbers. We might bump into you :cool1:

Thanks, Teena. I know there are many great QS places, but with a dietary restrictions (grain & dairy-free), I'm scouring menus to find QS restaurants I can eat at. :-)

Out of curiosity what have you found so far? I have one member of our party with what seems like similar restrictions :scratchin

I have a ? for you folks... we have a huge multi-birthday + anniversary trip planned with our fam of 4, my mother, my brother and his wife late may. This will be my brothers first & prob his only visit to the world as an adult. We are going for spectacular! We were hoping to do poly but are currently set with Std CL at the beach club due to the construction. Do the standards really have bad views? Is club level really that small, with no awesome view, & offerings that run out??? I keep seeing all of these posts in searches and it's making me wonder if I made the wrong choice. Please let me know I'm wrong and that I just keep stumbling upon nay-sayers!

Ok, question! We are just 54 days away from our family trip, will we be able to get magic bands? All 4 rooms are booked with my cast discount and we are using the Military Salute tickets, my SIL will activate 6 and my husband is 1007 disabled vet so he also gets 6. The vouchers we purchased cannot be added to my MDE because they are turned in for tickets when activated at the park. We plan on doing this arrival day, which will be a non-park day, at the International Gateway.

Nothing pops up about magic bands when we all did on line check in, so I am curious how this will work. Teena, maybe you can help since it is a cast reservation!!

You'll get Magic Bands since you are staying at a Disney resort. However, you probably won't be able to link your tickets until you actually get them. Once you get them, bring them back to the concierge desk and they should be able to do it for you.

blackdogg, so far, in the YC/BC/BWI area, it looks like Hurricane Hanna's has a chopped salad (hold the blue cheese and it's perfect), Boardwalk Bakery has an Apple Mixed Greens salad that can have chicken or shrimp added (just hold the goat cheese). From the looks of the Marketplace menu on allears.net, there aren't any grain-free/dairy-free options. :-(

As far as QS in the parks, check out Fairfax Fare (DHS), Liberty Tree Tavern, Cosmic Ray's & Be Our Guest (MK). We won't be going to AK on this trip, so I can't speak to that, and our EPCOT days we have tentatively planned to have QS at or near BC. I haven't had a chance to scour EPCOT's QS menus yet...

Thanks Teena. Do you think I will be able to customize the bands soon? So, I guess we can't do FP+ then. My kids will be a little disappointed, but no big deal.

Hope you have a great trip with Jeanne and Lily.

Keep looking. As long as you can link your reservation to the magic bands, you should be able to customize them. But you won't be able to do the FP+ until you link the tickets.

I agree 100%. Make every single day count because you never know when it will turn 180 degrees on you. My philosophy is that if you wake up in the morning and the sun comes up you have absolutely no reason to be anything other than HAPPY! :sunny:

Thanks for sharing in my excitement. :goodvibes

GREAT attitude!!! I sent you a pm with my number! Can't wait to meet!

I'm hoping you can help me...
In order to get from BC to EPCOT, do we walk by BWI, or is that on the way to DHS? Does anyone have a map showing YC/BC/BWI together?

Just trying to plan some QS lunches, and on days when we have a late start (pool AM), I was thinking we could do Hurricane Hanna's one day, and Boardwalk Bakery the other before heading out to the parks...

Thanks in advance!!!

It really isn't that far, you would just head out the opposite way of Epcot, its one big circle. We did it several times on our trip. It is neat to see the Boardwalk at different times of the day!

If you will be in Epcot, try the Land--Sunshine Seasons (I think?). They have rotisserie chicken that was really nice!

Hi Kerry, If you have a December check in date you won't be able to get MB's until they open December. So far there hasn't been anyone with a December check in date who has been able to customize MagicBands or make fp+ reservations yet. At least no one on the December MB discussion thread has been able to do it yet.

I can make FP+ reservations for my 12/4-12/10 trip, but BUZZY doesn't seem into plans (and I'm ok with this) so I'm FLYING by the seat of my pants on this trip!! LOVE YOU BUZZY ;). Nothing has shown up to customize yet, but I already have 2 bands, so I might not have to do another customized band, but IF I do I'm thinking RED!!

There have been reports of people who had MB's from prior stays being able to make fp+ reservations. I can make fp+ reservations for the dates Dec 1 to 5th, but my check in date is Nov 30th.

It will be interesting to see if you will be able to order a new set of MB's for your Dec trip. You'll have to let us know what happens. :)

Just back from my conference at WDW. I stayed at the AKL in a standard room, but they upgraded me to savannah view. I really enjoyed the hotel, and it was cool to look at the animals. If I were to choose between the AKL and the BC/YC, it would definitely be the BC. My thoughts:

1. Rooms at the AKL seem a lot smaller. I'd say they are comparable to a moderate size-wise. The bathroom and the furnishings are like the other deluxe resorts. I wasn't thrilled with the look of the bedspread, but as the nights were chilly, the extra warmth at my feet was nice.

2. The pool is nice, but fairly small. The slide was a real let down. We have much better pools and slides at our community center here at home. Stormalong Bay leaves the Uzima pool in the dust.

3. Two very small hot tubs - for the size of Jambo House I felt the hot tubs were a bit inadequate. I tried using them twice, but both times there was no room for any more people. The BC/YC has lots of hot tubs, and you can usually find room in them even when the hotel is sold out.

4. Restaurants - I think AKL has the upper hand for the Mara. I really liked that food court, and it is much more spacious and more offerings than the Marketplace. The Epcot area has so many different choices for restaurants close by that for sit down service, you can't really beat the location.

5. Transportation - No contest. AKL has buses everywhere. They drop off at Kidani first, so it seemed to take a long while to get back from the parks. The ride back from Magic Kingdom seemed to take FOREVER.

6. Mousekeeping - The BC housekeeping was far superior. I don't know if this was because I stayed CL last time. The AKL housekeeping was spotty.

7. The staff. BC wins because they have Teena. :) I stopped by to see her while I was at the conference and got to meet her and her boss. So cool to see you again, Teena!

I had a real blast visiting by myself. I really went super commando at the parks. I used my very best touring plan advice that I've gotten from the DIS and EasyWDW and I managed to do a ton in the short time I was able to spend in the parks. I'm SO glad I upgraded my ticket to an annual pass when I was there last month. I had no idea I'd be back so soon. The pass has paid for itself already.

I have Garden View at BC booked for January, couldn't get the 35% off rate for Standard or Garden View at YC, which I was hoping for to get a full balcony. I am wondering what room request to make? I searched for a hotel floorplan/numbered rooms layout, I know I've seen it before, but could only find that for the Villas. Does anyone have a link? What should I make for a room request...just a balcony? Floor level high for a better view? Corner room? Near Epcot to use that sneaky back way out of BC since we will be spending most walking time in that direction for WS food, food, and more food? I don't want to make too many requests. Any advice from the experts here is appreciated!

Hello Y&BC friends! Having a blast here!

Checked into YC yesterday morning and got a great CL room overlooking back entrance. Stopped at Hurricane Hanna's for my first Sunken Treasure...yummy! On to Food & Wine for some sampling. Saw Sugar Ray last night and Edwin McCain tonight...what a blast! The weather has been gorgeous the last two days...The CMs are loving the 'cool front' haha. Today we sadly left the YC (but made sure to go back for a little break for drinks and appys) and checked into the Swan. We are in a boardwalk view balcony room...very nice! We just love the Epcot resorts area.

Tomorrow we have dinner at Biergarten with our friend from the YC. Magic Bands working well so far.

Kerry

Ninja Mom’s Tips for the newly married woman.

In honor of Missy’s impending nuptials I thought I would throw some tips her way. These tips are designed to help those bashful brides navigate the morass that is marriage.

Tip #1 One of you will snore. The other will claim not to. It makes no difference who is doing the snoring and who is doing the poking as neither one of you will get any sleep.

Tip #2 Avoid those “seat was left up” arguments by removing it entirely and telling him you are doing the bathroom in “Prison Chic”. This should be enough to shock him into remembering to keep the seat down at all times. If he should forget and leave the seat up, drag out the tools and make a big show of telling him you have to run to Home Depot and buy a bigger seat removal wrench.

Tip #3 Your freshly minted husband will now feel perfectly comfortable eating up your left-overs without your permission from your last restaurant trip. To avoid this heinous theft hide your left overs in a Tupperware container marked “Salad”. It’s the last place a husband will look for food.

Tip #4 Only buy pink razors with girly smelling shaving cream if you want to avoid having your husband replace his rusty antique blades with one of yours. Enough said!

Tip #5 Closet space! You get all of it; he has the corner of the linen closet, until Macy’s has a white sale.

Tip #6 The thermostat! Always remember that YOUR hormones determine the temperature of the house at any given season. Men will always try to save money by making the house cold in the winter. They are hairy and have more ‘insulation’. Anytime you catch your husband by the thermostat trying to turn it down tell him your ovaries are getting angry and he wouldn’t want that.

Tip #7 Do not go to the grocery store together. There is not a shopping cart made that will fit all of your junk and all of his junk. One day you will get old and bored and you will shuffle off to the grocery store together, arguing over the shape of the pasta and whose turn it is to pick the cookies. Now is not the time for that. Shop alone or spend double.

Tip #8 The holidays are really a game of tug of war between your two families. Until a teleporter is invented that will instantly transport you between the two households get used to a lot of driving. If you want to stay home for the holidays then the best way to end the traveling is to have children. When you have children the Grandparents will beat down your door to get inside and you will have to get a restraining order and 3 pit bulls to keep them out. At least you will be staying home for the holidays.

Tip #9 When one of you cooks the other one does the dishes. Ordering take out is not cooking but the one who drives to get the take out is off clean up duty.

Tip #10 Go to bed ANGRY! Your other half will be intimidated and will be less likely to steal the covers in the middle of the night.

Now remember, follow these tips faithfully and you'll be a guest on Dr. Phil's show in no time!

~NM

Thanks, Teena. I know there are many great QS places, but with a dietary restrictions (grain & dairy-free), I'm scouring menus to find QS restaurants I can eat at. :-)

Don't let the menus lead you!!!
I am gluten-free and was at POR last year. I was in food court area and having trouble finding GF items so I asked a CM. He got the chef and the chef whipped me up an AMAZING grilled chicken salad that was GF free. Also, ate at a QS at HS that had a GF bun available (again, talked to CM) and at Sunshine Seasons at EPCOT where they made me a little fruit salad since I couldn't eat the one out (it had granola and other stuff in it).

Definitely don't hesitate to ask the CM or chef around for some help - they can offer some great options!!!
