2012 Epcot Food and Wine Festival *HAS ENDED*

I just found this thread and have not read all 38 pages  so these may have been commented on already...we're thinking of trying a mixology seminar this time as well as the Italian Food & Beer Pairing...anyone have any thoughts/comments on either of those if you've gone in the past?

(And note - I know that seminar is not the preferred word, but I have the preferred word is not really a word!)

It is also a great deal easier to type than "seminars and demonstrations" because if you type only one, invariably someone asks if whatever was being discussed applies to one but not the other. Portmanteau the words for easy typing, a practice done 'round the internet.

Has the festival guide / map been released yet? Trying to find out what wineries will be featured for wine demos.

SO??? Lots of things are done 'round the internet. :lmao:

Maybe we should call them semi-demos?

I just discovered waffes & Lefse in Norway and got to thinking...

We're all set for lunch & dinner at the booths, but what about breakfast?

I realize the World Showcase doesn't open until 11, but during Food & Wine, 11 is breakfast time for us. :rotfl2:

Seriously, I have to have something breakfasty before hitting the booths, no matter what time it is!!

Suggestions??

Something from the Bakery in either Norway or France. Also the Coffee Booths have some pastry items or breakfast from Sunshine Seasons in The Land Pavilion. That's about it for a quick breakfast in EPCOT.

I was thinking the waffle with berry compote from Belgium sounded like something good to launch into breakfast, wash it down with a Godiva Iced coffee and come back for the mussels.

Not going to get into who uses what words. Use seminars, demonstrations, seminars and demonstrations, semi demos, those chef things, booze n snooze (heard that one before, someone thinks the beverage ones are dull) or deminars. Whatever you choose. No official word here.

If you want breakfast from the booths and not the bakeries, the Belgian waffle looks like it.

Did a couple of mixology seminars last year and liked them - my advice is to "volunteer" when they are looking for someone to go up on the podium to make a drink...you get to drink what you create (ie. a bonus beverage in addition to the samples on the table).

As for the Italian beer pairing, I would say it depends upon how much you are into beer. They will not serve anything considered "craft beer" (the Moretti La Rossa is the only one of the four served last year that I would actually consider buying someday). We are going to pass since they are offering beers on par with Heineken, Stella etc. which we always avoid.

The fun is I get to complete my book without forcing myself to eat things I know I won't like. And If they want me to buy something for the stamp there's always bottled water.

We actually did 'earn" our stamps last year (I sound like John Houseman). Our last one was Fife & Drum and they only had the Red Stag frozen lemonade as an option - turned out to be pretty darn good and now I've been making a non frozen version down at the pool this summer.

Thanks...honestly, I'm not into beer at all, but the BF is and that one was his idea...mixology will be more for me :goodvibes I am however into Italian food so I'm sure I'll still have a good time at the food & beer pairing. :thumbsup2

I hear you, Orange County Commuter, and I am not without sympathy for your position! But language is always changing--even BEFORE the internet! Lewis Carroll, in his poem Jabberwocky, invented the words "chortle" (a combination of "chuckle" and "snort") and "galumphing" (a combination of "gallop" and "triumphant")--and both can now be found in our dictionary.

Impossible to hold back the tide of language change--so we might as well embrace it. Who knows? In a few years, we may find the word "deminar" (a useful term, as it's descriptive of what actually goes on in these events) in our dictionaries as well!

Meanwhile, thanks for the very quick and very helpful response to my query. I appreciate it!

I must say I am not sure if you can use an AP voucher to book deminars. I think you must have an active AP. I also can't remember if you could book deminars by phone last year,

Pardon my ignorance, Nala, but I don't know the different between an AP voucher and an active AP. Can you enlighten me?

Also, it would be very helpful to know if we can book deminars by phone. I THINK I remember doing it last year, but I'm not sure. Any way to find out and let us all know?

Thanks for all the great work you do on this forum. Very helpful to us all.

What, you never had cheddar cheese soup for breakfast before? It's like an cheese omelet without the eggs and in liquid form :lmao:

Doesn't have to be from the booths. :thumbsup2

I'm sure some folks mut have discovered some other breakfasty type foods in the bakeries around the World!

I'd love to discover a few year-round hidden treasures as well. :goodvibes

I read the last few days of discussion, but didn't see this-

Are you charged for the wine or mixology seminars when you book them? It sounds like you need to pick up your tickets at the Festival Welcome Center before the seminar, but I wasn't sure if that meant "your pre-paid tickets" or "your tickets so you can pay"

Also, these daily wine and mixology seminars aren't ones that sell out right away, are they? It will be my first time booking any F&W Festival events, and I'm hoping the online system works. It's so hard to be on hold and try to talk when I'm barely awake in the morning ;)

You are charged when you book them. If you're looking to do a "celebrity" deminar such as Robert Irvine they sell out immediately (separate from Kitchen Memories).

Breakfasty:scratchin I can only think of two possibilities. The Belgian Waffle with fruit compote, and the pumpkin mousse (or pudding) with craisins. Besides, right after opening may be the only time that the lines for the Belgain Waffles is reasonably short.
