2012 Destashing Thread

I have been working on this for two years now and I am just amazed how the more I get rid of the more I need to get rid of stuff! :rotfl:

I feel exactly the same way. Maybe it's because once we get started we realize that there are more things we can let go of.

Still plugging away here with lots more to do. Have a good start with some more garage sale materials with a friend's garage sale on for next weekend. Hopefully I'll get more stuff tagged this weekend!

Otherwise, still working on the attic (which is really our master bedroom) and have made it almost 1/2 way though purging and putting away. Now if I could just get the rest of the people who live in this house to pick up after themselves.......:confused3:rotfl2:

Decluttering is very theraptic. I've heard on hoarder type shows that clutter are emotional issues and letting go of the past. The more want to move forward the more i'm able to part with things as before I was unable to. I really want to be blessed to have another child after years of fertility issues. I told hubby I just feel a HUGE need to clear out this room and the clutter throughout the house, maybe this will bring good baby vibes for us, if not , it will be a nice organized craftroom to enjoy.Plus i'm tired of holding on to the past , its time to live in the present and look forward to the future:goodvibes

Today I cleared off my desk and orgaized it, I also worked on another craft shelf I have. I got plastic shoe boxes and 1 is for more mail stuff to shred and the other for mail stuff to file. I threw out another grocery bag of paper and junk. Next task will be m craft table, then my closet, then my craft cabinet.

As far as dd she has finally been keeping her room clean and organized. My sister will be taking her on a shopping spree and I told dd she needs to go through her clothes before she brings more in. When her room does start getting messy I remind her no laptop or ipod touch(internet) if her room isnt cleaned up.

Dh I'm not even going to go there until the very end-lol! I wont get him going until we are ready to paint our bedroom and put new flooring in .

I feel like I'm finally gertting somewherein this spareroom:cool1:

I am finally getting back to this task. There are so many things laying around the house for so long they have actually become part of the "decor". This weekend I am committed to putting everything away. The visual clutter is paralyzing me at this point so I am going to do a quick sweep now - some things will get tossed right away - then come back and go through each drawer, cabinet, closet and do some serious purging.

I agree about the visual clutter being paralyzing.

I will get in mood and to qucik sweeps. This week i sold 12 small craft items and sold a girls lot of clothes - 5 items. I made $25 that will be going to my cc payment. I did a sweep and got rid of 3 grocery bags of junk papers. I also have maybe another 3 grocery bags of shredded bills.

Tomorrow I have some more shredding to do. I know have my container of must shred and must file. I feel a lot more organized and when i feel that way i feel less stressed.

My spareroom looks a lot better . I dont feel as overwhelmed when i walk in.

One other thing i want to organize is my cabinet that holds all my bakeware ,electic roaster and crockpots.

The plan was to also declutter my bedroon but i think that will have to wait until next mini break...Thanksgiving.

How is everyone doing with their decluttering????

dreamin disney - you are getting a lot done! That's great you are feeling less stressed!!

I did get my quick sweep done the first weekend of July. My main focus was the desk. It's our hot zone since it's right by the door and it's where all the mail, receipts, packages, and so on gets dropped. It yielded 2 smallish cartons of papers to be recycled plus a pile of shredding. I set up files for DH's papers and reorganized the house files. And being a nerd, we now have a charging station for all of our electronic devices and a printing station.

I also started tackling my scrapbook/craft room. The amount of things I have is obscene. I sorted through all my papers, ribbons & scraps. A lot got tossed and I set aside a bunch of items to list on some FB selling groups. My mother volunteers at a library with a kid craft program, so she's going to find out if they can use these types of supplies and I'll send a box down to her.

And last but not least, I deleted all the old emails in my gmail account. There were over 10,000 since I never deleted them. There's about 50 or so I want to go through to grab some links. And I also unsubscribed from most of the blogs I followed in my reader. I used to have 30-40 new blog posts to read, delete or do something with every day. Now there's maybe 5. LIBERATING!

Next up is the bottom of the clothes closet and the big hall closet. They can be compared to the black hole. hahaha!! DH said I can do what ever I want with what ever is in there. There's going to come a time when he will care about what I want to toss so I am saving those areas for last.

I've been a bit frozen on dealing with the stuff in the house ever since we got back from vacation. But my parents arrive in 2 days to visit so that's lit a fire under me.

I'm working in the boys room today but not feeling like I'm making progress. I think I should have some b-fast before I go back in there. That would probably help! ;)

The garage is full again too. It is beyond annoying that this keeps happening. The real problem is the house is simply too small and there isn't anything I can do about that problem!

This is part of our problem. We have a 4 room apartment and way too much stuff. For so long, I kept moving things around but now there's no where to move them to.

The sad thing is we have a storage space in our basement about the size of a parking space which is filled and a small storeroom off sight. My plan is to get rid of what I can in the apartment. Then sort out & organize the space downstairs to make room for the needed items that are in the store room. I can't remember the last time we went to the store room so 90-95% of that stuff is going right in the dumpster at the storage warehouse.

I have promised myself to find real storage solutions and not settle for stupid crappy things just to put something somewhere.

I have my work cut out for me. I don't think DH knows what he's in for. :lmao:

Good luck getting things in order for your parents' visit!!

It has been a while (a long while) since I posted an update.

Well I finished the trim work in the laundry room today so that is some clutter off the back porch!!! Also, installed the door knob for the laundry room, so that is one less thing kicking around!!!

I am making this week my finish projects week, that way I can get rid of a bunch of junk and get the house looking more finished!!!! Which will also lead to the storage shed being more organized!!!

I forgot to mention that I also got rid of 6 books last week!!!

Not much but at least it is something.

I was rumaging around my shed looking for my paintbrushes this morning and found a box of yard sale stuff left over from last year!! (I will be dropping that off to the Salvation Army Thrift Store latter today.:goodvibes Why it ended up in the shed, no idea:confused3)!?!?!

I really need to get back in there and reorganize things, it seems as I do more projects around the house the messy the shed gets!!!

More stuff to destash!! WTG!!

That's how our storage space gets. The house is slowly getting into shape yet the storage sapce is quickly getting out of hand. LOL

I dont even want to know what my shed looks like. Dh usually is the one that goes in there to get my X-mas decorations. The shed will be a decluttering project for the future-lol!

My extra room is that way. I start to get rid of stuff but its still not done. My shred pile get outta hand qucik. Just as i finshe shredding , another pil shows up a few days later :(

I couldnt sleep because of all the thunder so i got up to organize my lil cleaning stuff area in my closet. Then i moved to my bathroom and cleaned it. I ended up doing laundry , and folding clothes. I straightened up my closet and got rid of 2 grocery bags of trash and 3 pairs of shoes. This weekend if all goes well I will be getting rid of 1-2 lots of stuff through CL.

I wanted to hit my hall closet and organize it . It hold all my baking pans, electric oven, fryer, crockpots. I decided to wait so dh can install some shelves.

update: Just got rid of another grocery bag of trash from cleaning out my double hall closet. I also organized tubs. DD and dh have a tub of their bath stuff ( mine is in my bathroom) and i organized the tub with cotton balls, face cleaner, soap, shampoo etc

Hopefully dh will install some shelves for my baking stuff this weekend, that way, i can clean out the bottom my my double hall closet and get him to go through some of his electronic stuff.

I'm jumping in! Trying to sell the house, so we have to get RID of STUFF! So far, my bathroom has been de-cluttered. LOL better than nothing! Doing a little at a time so I don't get overwhelmed and so my house doesn't get crazy messy in the process. Tomorrow (or tonight?) I'll be doing the other two bathrooms, then it's on to the offices. Those are going to be a PAIN. :rolleyes2

Well I spent some time in the storage shed again.

I managed to get rid of the following:

1 crusty old paint brush
1 paintroller that no longer rolls
1 broken paint tray
1 26 gallon container of scrap wood
1 set of cheap wrenches (as I received a nice quality set a while back) :goodvibes
3 12 gallon empty storage containers
7 Red stacking trays that were used for storage of misc items
1 broken faucet (why did I keep this in the first place):confused3
1 used light fixture
5 small plastic garbage buckets (too small to use in the house and why do I have them to start with???:confused3)

Used up a partial gallon of paint from the cellarway for my porch trim
Used up the rest of the trimwork for the front porch (Back porch has now been decluttered):cool1:

I know not so much progress in the house but any clutter removed from my property feels good!!! At least now I can find the needed tools to complete work around the house:thumbsup2

Now off to finish more home projects and use up/get rid of small piles of materials from all over.

I find doing one small area at a time is easier for me, otherewise being all over the places overwhelms me. Starting off small, you will get more finshed.

Great job! I find that I feel a lot better having less clutter. I use to have lots of angel knick knack i got as gifts and just knick knacks all over, papersin drawers etc. After etting rid of all that I can walk into the dnning area or living room and it just feels so much more open and peaceful. My home was never messy .....sometimes less just means more peace-lol!

I was in pretty good shape after family was here the first week in Easter...Now I need to do some serious decluttering before family gets here Thursday...What happened? Garage sale season. :rotfl:

lol! I seen a lil comic say...it said something like take forever to clean but have guest coming over and its amazing how much cleaning you can get done in 10 mins.-lol! It was along those lines,,,,so true-lol!

I've been visualizing a declutter spareroom and a clean organized garage. Lil by lil it will happen. As far as yardsales I hate having those and its way to hot!

-------------------
update:
another bag of toys sold and its one less bag of stuff taking up room. I have a meet up tomorrow for another bag of clothes . With the money from both sales I will use to make my creditcard payment to Target and Chase :)

I only meet up for the stuff I sell on cl in public. After the meet up dh and I went to home depot and looked at closet organizing stuff. We have a cheapy laminate wood one but we really liked the one we seen today. We came home and decide $$ we will keep the ones we have and take one out so we can add a rod to hang up more of our clothes(we have a lil one ). We as dh and I are discussing it, he talking about he will have to go through his stuff and get rid of things and organize etc etc. Well for dh to be on the same page about decluttering his closet is a HUGE step and makes me sooooo happy!!!!!lol!

Hopefully during the week I can go through a few more items. oh and i told him about adding some sheves in my hall closet for my baking pans , crockpot etc and he said sure . whoowhoo now we just need to get moving

Did a bit more decluttering last night and got rid of the following:

20 magazines placed in the recycle bin
12 inch high pile of paper placed in the recyle bin
1 small box of misc items to be donated Monday morning to the Salvation Army
4 used printer cartridges recycled at Staples (for the rewards!!)

Biggest 'win' lately is getting rid of all our VHS tapes and the two shelves in the basement that held them. Yay!

What are you doing with your old electronics? I have a few of these things also and hate to toss them but also know they are almost obsolete.

Great job on the decluttering!
