2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Haven't been here much, but wanted to pop in today...mainly so I can see my ticker. 5 months and how many days?

My non-Disney vacation is in 2 weeks. Starts with the Chocolate Buffet in Boston on June 2 and then on the 5th we're on a plane for Chicago. Then Amtrak on the 8th down to my sister's house in southern IL for my niece's graduation. I think after this trip, I'll really feel like we're in the final countdown to the Yacht Club visit!

I'm back. Got home last night. Overall, I had a fantastic time. Only negative was Monday morning I woke up feeling funny. Not sure if it was food poisoning or a stomach flu. By noon I was running a fever and my stomach was shouting at me. I was in between Jeanne's class and the bathroom all day. On Monday night I was suppose to leave Jeanne's and check in at the casino for the invitational tournament. Jeanne got me checked in and had to help me get a shower. Have no idea what my temp was but I can't remember much of the next few days except crawling to the bathroom during the night because I was so dizzy. Fever broke Tuesday AM. I woke totally soaked. I only went down and played the two sessions on Tuesday (20 minutes each) and spent the rest of the day in bed. Tried to eat a pretzel and it came out the other end shortly thereafter in a water version. Tuesday night ran a fever again. Wednesday I got down a piece of toast and played in the last session of the tournament. Got down more Pepsi and actually felt good enough to play some poker. Thursday I spent all day on the plane pretty much and last night I got down half a cheese sandwich. I actually slept through the night and feel almost normal again this morning. Still weak. Hopefully today and tomorrow will get me strong enough to work Sunday.

Spending the time with Jeanne and Lily was magical. Lily is so much fun and Jeanne said she was looking for me on Tuesday when she woke up. We had a "thing" we did in bed every morning and she apparently missed me. I know next time I see her she won't remember me. I can't wait until she is old enough not to forget us every time we leave her for a period of time.

Glad to be home. I missed Bob so much. It was so nice to see his smiling face waiting for me at the airport. But I think the thing I missed the most was the green and humidity. I absolutely hate how dirty everything is in Vegas and the dryness. When the plane landed and I saw water and green, it put a huge smile on my face. And then I actually could take air into my lungs that had some moisture in it (instead of soot) --- HEAVEN!!! I know for sure I was born to be a Floridian!

You had to bring that thread up, huh? I've seen it and have avoided looking at for weeks... until today. Thanks :headache: :rotfl:

Since this is such an informed thread, I just HAD to share!! ;)

Nothing comes to mind right now, but let me think about it.

If you happen to be in the BC Marketplace when they have the cupcakes out, maybe snap a picture of them in their natural element.

And sample one or two.

For research purposes, only, of course!

It will be a tough job, but I can do it! :rotfl2:

And you must not forget to complete the tri-fecta of frozen drinks around WS with a Frozen Bacardi Mojito from the Refreshment Port.

:faint: I have never tried one of these!!!

Just goes to show you, everyone has different likes and dislikes. Raspberry & Brie croquets, crab rangoons, bacon wrapped scallops....all sound like things I would love to put on my plate.

My EXACT thoughts! Sounds like the lounge menu hasn't changed since the last time we stayed there.

I am a Carmel Pecan "enabler" so I will contribute to this decadent conversation by mentioning that on our last trip I brought ziplock bags and placed several CP bars in them. I then carefully hid these zip locked sweeties in my checked baggage for the trip home. Although I declined extra insurance in case of theft of said CP bars, I was fortunate enough to have them arrive home safely.

The task then became to hide them from the prying eyes and gnashing teeth of my family. Luck was on my side as I got to the suitcase in question first and promptly hid the CP bars where no one in my family would ever look, which was the vegetable crisper drawer in the fridge!

On our next trip I plan on bringing my beloved CP bars home in little plastic food storage tubs. The sandwich size should do it and it should hopefully help with the zip lock bag CP bar 'shape shift' that mysteriously occurs when they are crammed into a suitcase.

WOW! :worship: That is some SERIOUS packing!!

I'm with you - I love the crab rangoons and bacon wrapped scallops!

Personal bragging - I'm dieting my way to Disney (so I can eat everything there!) with nutri system. Today is day 21 and I've lost 71/2 lbs!!!!

Those grand marnier slushies, sunken treasures and the caramel shop are calling my name!!!!

WTG!!! I have been EXTRA diligent about my carbs this past month to make sure that I can eat a cupcake (or 3) in the name of research ;)

But we walk so much, and sweat so much, that I never seem to put that much weight on during the summer trips. :confused3

If no one reports back by then, I would be happy to swing by Captains Grille and look at the menu for Key Lime Pie. Perhaps its seasonal?

I am thinking of surprising my family with either the Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage or Seas Aqua Tour (snorkeling in the tank at the Seas). My daughter is 9, a great swimmer, and pretty adventurous. Has anyone done these? Can you tell me what they are like?

Also is there a boat cruise you can do from the beach club and watch Illuminations? I can't find it on the Disney site.

Thanks

A

We did the Pirate & Pals cruise a couple of years ago and LOVED IT!!!! DS also did the Pirate cruise from the GF when he was 6 but has never done the BC one. Now that he is 9 (or will turn 9 this trip) I don't know that he would go for it. But the Pirate & Pals was fun for ALL ages! I highly recommend it pirate:

Kelleigh- how funny that you are flying into Chicago on June 5 and I will be flying out of Chicago bound for WDW that same day!

I'll waive at you on the way. LOL

We're flying Southwest, so into Midway. I think we land around 1:00. June 5th is our 8th wedding anniversary (our Oct. trip will be our 10th anniversary from when we met).

Teena,

That sounds like an awful stomach bug. I hate that you were so sick on your trip. Glad that you had a good time in spite of it all.

I have never been to Vegas. It holds no appeal to me for the reasons you stated. I love the lushness of green lawns.

This reminds me of what my younger DS always says about breathing in Florida.

"It's like drinking water when you breathe and it makes me feel like I'm drowning!!"

He has asthma and the heavy air and humidity causes it to flare up sometimes because his lungs are used to our very thin, dry air. I know what he means because the Florida air does it to my asthma, too. Doesn't stop us from going to WDW, though, LOL!

Oh Teena!! I'm so sorry you felt so bad. Food Poisoning is NOT FUN...I had it this past Christmas DAY (Yes, you read that right, X-mas DAY) That was the worst Christmas Ever!!!

Glad you are feeling better.....and I now have a new image of you in my head sitting at a table playing poker. Would have never imagined ;)

And I'm so glad that you love Florida so much, because I was worried that you and Bob would end up moving to Vegas to be closer to Lily!!

He would definitely Drown here in LA!!! We actually get a break from the heavy humidity while in WDW :rotfl2:

Matching Shirts!!!

"My heart belongs to Mom!"

:rotfl2:
OH Dee you should seriously think of doing a mock up of that shirt on your computer and ask him if he likes it just to see the expression on his wee face:rotfl:
I'm with you - I love the crab rangoons and bacon wrapped scallops!
I've never tried either of these but love the sound of the brie;)
Dee - I can't wait to see your pictures when you return. Just the thought of your description of you and the kids makes me laugh. Unfortunately since I have 13 and 14 year old girls I know all too well the - wanting to look as if they don't belong with you feeling!

Safe travels and magical trips to all who are on the their way to Disney!

:cheer2:Well done on the weight loss. Keep it up-think of slushies and cupcakes and yorkshire chips and caramel and......:)

Teena glad to hear you're safely back home in the land of lushisness:goodvibes
Sorry to hear you got sick but glad you on the mend. Sounds like you and Lily had a wonderful time:)

We are also on SW but our flight leaves very early in the AM so we will already be in Orlando when you land. Midway is a decent airport, not as crowded as O'Hare so we prefer it even though its farther. We are celebrating our 15th Wedding Anniversary in August but DH can't get away then. He and I are going to Maui in November instead :beach:

ETA: Teena- welcome home! What a TERRIBLE way to have to spend a few days of your visit!!

Jeanne knows that the only way she will get me to move there is if I can't work anymore at WDW, I'm totally alone and barely able to function on my own. As much as I love Jeanne and Princess Lily, I hate that city even more! I actually had to take my Crocs into the shower and wash them off ... the dirt never gets washed off the streets and pavements and parking lots because there is no rain. And your skin and hair gets soooo dry. YUCK! Thank goodness everybody likes different things. Just funny that my own daughter hates the humidity and loves the dry climate.

As far as gambling, Yep ... I can sit at a poker table (preferably Pai Gaw Poker) for 12 hours at a shot without taking a break. Love it!!!! Jeanne is an unbelievable Texas Hold Em player. She's very good and there was a group that wanted to sponsor her the year she got pregnant in the World Series of Poker. She got pregnant and then said no because of the smoke in the casinos. They can't smoke at the tables but it's there in the air and she refused to do that when she was pregnant.

Speaking of Southwest Airlines ... you all know that's all I fly. The attendant (middle aged man) yesterday was a hoot. He's based in Orlando so maybe one of you will get lucky and get him. So funny! He's giving the spiel about safety and gets to the part where the masks drop from the top and says, "if the cabin looses pressure and the masks drop, adults should first put their mask on and if traveling with children, then assist the child. If traveling with more than one child, pick the one with the most potential and assist them."

Only on Southwest!

:rotfl2: I think I have had that guy before on one of our flights!! I know some people don't care for SW because of the silliness, but in a post 9/11 world, I actually enjoy it! :thumbsup2

Thanks! my daughter has done the Pirate Cruise at BC twice but I think she will be too old for it this year. She will be almost 10 when we go.

Love Southwest!!! Wish they flew out of Lafayette, but instead we have a 2 hour drive to New Orleans. That's OK, because the Non Stop flight is the best!!

Maybe I Love them because I got 4 free Drink Coupons for next Friday???!!!??? :lmao: DH and I like to start our Vacation AS SOON as we arrive at the airport.

Teena - Welcome Home!

I am so sorry you got sick. My oldest daughter spent all of Mother's Day night in the ER with food poisoning. Still doesn't know how or where she got it.

Don't be too sure about Lily not remembering your special thing. My in-laws
used to live in Hilton Head and the kids would only see them a few times a year, but even when she was less than two Taylor would get really excited when they pulled up to their house!

Glad you're feeling better.

:rotfl2: Oh man, I love Southwest!! I always fly them when I can, too. I remember one time coming back from WDW, my Dad had on his Dogfather shirt (spoof on the Godfather), and the gate attendant got on the intercom and said: "We will now begin our pre-boarding with....The Dogfather. Will The Dogfather please come to the gate for pre-boarding!" So my Dad got to be the very first person on the plane! He certainly got a lot of perplexed looks from the other pre-board passengers!! :rotfl2:

I think we had that guy once or someone using a similar line. He said "pick the one you like best..."

Just another reason I love Southwest. They have some of the best flight attendants.

Cinderumbrella: We were talking the other day about what to do for our actual 10th wedding anniversary in 2014 and Aulani is a consideration. Never been to Hawaii. America's Funniest Home Videos was there on this past Sunday's episode and that's what got us talking about it. Hope you have a fantastic trip to WDW and to Maui!
