2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

I think she just wants to "people watch". See Mickey & Minnie in the SW outfits, and get a t-shirt!!!

I wonder, do they sell the shirts during the week while SWW is going on?

Hello
We are Beach Club newbies staying from Aug 5-11.(If you could add us to the "Be our Guest" List that would be great :goodvibes) Anyway, I posted several pages back just to say hi, but now I actually have some questions.

We plan on taking our 5 year old and our 1 year old to SAB on our first full day there. Looking at the map, I am kind of overwhelmed. Which parts are best for kids that age? Is there a particular location that we should set up camp that will be close to the places for them?

Also is the walk to HS really bad in August? Thinking about attempting it. Are we crazy to do it with 2 kids?

Thanks so much for your help. Love this thread and are looking forward to out time there.

Well my kids haven't been that young for quite some time, but I did have a BLAST watching the tots play around the sandy bottom pool area. They were having such fun!!! There are plenty of lounge chairs around that area.

As far as the walk.......never done it. The boat is just way to convenient. Or I'm just WAY to LAZY (that's probably the most accurate reason ;) )

the boat is actually a nice relaxing ride! Have a great time planning You are gonna LOVE BC.

I'm getting so excited about our trip. We arrive on the 15th :) :cheer2:

This is our first trip to Disney, and I saw where I could do the online check in at the BC. I don't anticipate having any special requests so should I do the online check in before we go or wait to check in when we get there (or does it really matter)?

I'd say do online check in but ultimately it's not a big deal either way. It can make check in at the resort shorter and if you're arriving earlier in the day there's a chance that your room could be ready when you get there if you do online check in. I hope this helps! :)

Welcome!!! I'd definitely suggest setting up camp near the zero depth sandy area. If you take a look at the photos that I posted just one page back and look at sections 3 (zero depth sandy area), 4 (kiddie pool with slide) and 5 (wading pool), those are really best for little ones!

I'm a huge fan of the walk to DHS, even in the summer. But not everyone is with me! We usually walk to DHS in the morning and then take the boat back in the early afternoon after lunch.

Happy Planning!

Pixarmom - Your trip must be getting close - what are your dates?

Tell you ds Robyn hopes he has a fantastic time at YC!!!!

Teena - hope you had a wonderful day at TL - wish I was there!!!!!

We are driving (from Georgia) so there is a possibility we might leave Saturday evening and spend the night somewhere along the way so we can have the majority of the day at the park on Sunday so it sounds like checking in online might be a good idea. Thanks :)

Our 2 year old lived in the sandy section towards the Yacht Club side. I think she had more fun there than she did in all of the parks, go figure! She did do the kiddie slide which is across the walkway in the pirate ship, but was still a little on the small side for it.

I agree with the sandy area. It's a great location for little ones. As for walking to HS, our family did it in December and really enjoyed the walk. I am not sure we would try it in the heat of August. I might do what pixarmom does and walk in the morning, then take the boat when it's hotter in the afternoon. The boats are really nice if you decide to try that option.

Welcome! If you don't have any special requests, I would do online check-in. It does speed up the process, in my experience. They have your room info. and packet all ready for you.

I was told the kiddie slide area and the sandy zero-entry kids area will be up and running.

Awesome! Thanks so much!
:lovestruc

And thanks again, pixarmom for the photos. I was looking at the post with the red shaded area and thought the kiddie slide was in there. Hard to gauge a feel for the actual layout since we've not been before. We stayed at BWI several years ago and the slide there is fun! Just will have to play it by ear since there's a lot to schlep with a baby. ;)

I used the boats for DHS in September because I thought it was too hot to walk. The air on the boats is pretty much a no go but if you sit up front by the captain, he usually has his windows open and you get a breeze.

I really liked the ride back even if YC/BC is the last stop, it was a great relaxing trip, expecially if you stop by that last cart in DHS that sells popcicles (I think they're called tripple blast bombs or something similar).

Kind of sugar flavored airconditioning.:rotfl:

I think most of my snack budget went to those and the frozen fruit bars (strawberry and pineapple). I did have a dole whip (orange and pineaplle swirl, no juice) in MK instead of the popcicles. But I think I bought some kind of snack on a stick in every park.

We go in July and we usually always walk over in the morning. Coming back in the afternoon I usually take two of the kids with me on the boat and DH and someone else (usually ds) like to walk back.

Not bad form at all! The thread moves quickly and if you post a question that is not addressed, it is perfectly fine to bring it to the front burner again.

No other advice, but just wanted to give a :thumbsup2 to this! Really glad to see a re-post if someone doesn't catch it the first time!

I'm debating adding WP&M to our ticket. We have gotten it in the past, but never felt like we got our money's worth since we only went to a water park once or almost had to force ourselves to go twice. But both times, TL has been closed and hubby has never been there. It is my fave of the two water parks, so we might want to go.

But now the question is, should we just buy a 1 day ticket to go there or should be add the WP&M to our ticket and maybe go more than once and/or visit DQ (although we aren't big fans of it either - always so crowded.)

I thought that with SAB, we wouldn't really care about the water parks, but now that I know TL should be open while we are there, I am debating.

kelleigh, I'd go with the 1-day TL ticket. We purchased 1-day TL tickets before our cruise last August and thought they were a good value. It was great for a day (we arrived early for EMH - well, they didn't open promptly so everyone in line was joking that it was EMM - extra magic minutes!) But I don't think we'd go more than once per trip.

It took me a long time to get over the closure of River Country, so I didn't promote waterparks at WDW for a long time. But we loved TL. Not so interested in doing more than one waterpark or going to DQ, so the 1-day would work for us.

I think online check-in is a great idea if you don't have any requests on your reservation (or if you do, but you would take whatever room you get.) It's for grab-and-go, and that sounds like it would work for you!

We just did online check-in for POFQ because we don't have any requests other than "upper floor," which is pretty generic and because we're arriving a couple days after Easter in the mid-afternoon. We are moving to YC on Friday, the 13th, but didn't check-in online because we'll arrive there between 6:30am and 7am - not very concerned about the line!

Pixarmom - Your trip must be getting close - what are your dates?

Thanks, Robyn! I'll deliver the message - he'll LOVE it! We're leaving for the beach in Florida this Friday, arriving at POFQ next Tuesday and then checking in at YC early morning of Friday, the 13th. So excited! :)

We never got to River Country. I think it was still open when I was there the first time, but for some reason it was the only water park we didn't visit. I've never been a BB fan, but both visits with hubby, TL was closed for refurb. Now it looks like both will be open in Oct. and he really wants to go to TL.

I think we're going to do like Dee suggested and just get the 1 day and then if we decide to go again while we're there, we will upgrade it.

:welcome: to the new posters!

We are going back to Beach Club Villas this September. I am so excited to go back as DH and I both missed it on our trip last year. It will be DH, myself and our DD who will turn 3 on our trip. We will be there from 9/29 to 10/7.
My favorite part for this trip is the entire day we have planned for just the pool.

I am so excited! Today was our 180 day mark so we were able to book all of our reservations and got everything we wanted!

Congrats on getting your dining reservations!!!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list on Page 1.

Just got through the whole thread! I probably won't be able to keep up but will pop in and out.

We will be staying at the BC August 25 through September 3. Probably spending one day at Typhoon Lagoon. Have ADR's for Rose and Crown dinner, Cape May breakfast, Le Cellier lunch, California Grill dinner, Boma dinner, Brown Derby dinner, Marakesh dinner. Also planning to do the Garden View tea at he GF and dinner one night at Big River Brewing. Would love to hear everyone's favorite CS choices. Esp from the foodies out there. I haven't really found great ones I like.

We are me, Husband, 9 year old daughter and SIL. We usually go at least every other year but haven't been since Jan 2010. We took a 3 week European vacation last year instead.

Also have a cruise Jan 13 scheduled on the Dream

A (dreaming about CL making next trip)

I'm no foodie, but I love to eat. My favorite CS spots are:

MK- Columbia Harbor House
EP- Sunshine Seasons, Tangierine Cafe (Morocco)
AK- Tamu Tamu is ok
HS-??? I am going to try the sandwiches, and CUPCAKES at Starring Rolls in June

Hi all

We're planning on returning to YC/CL for our split stay in May. We haven't been to YC/CL since May 2010 and are excited to go back!!

I was wondering if anyone knows what offerings the CL offers per day. I know what they normally have for breakfast, etc... but the other CLs seem to have a schedule on what Hot Appetizer they put out on what nights. Just trying to plan around what days we may want to snack up there. Thanks!!

I'm not sure if there is a set appetizer schedule in the CL. There are some pictures on the front page of this thread, but they are pictures from my 2010 trip, so I'm not sure what changes have happened since then.

Let us know the dates of your stay if you want me to add them to the Be Our Guest list.

Hmmm... Could you call the front desk of the resort on your checkin day and explain your situation to the CMs who are on duty? I'm sure if they knew that you were trying to keep the tour a surprise they would want to help you out.

Anyone have other ideas?

Good to know I wasn't committing a faux pas :thumbsup2. Regarding the front desk, I thought I read here that when you call the front desk, you're getting a general line, not really your actual resort desk? Or maybe that's if you call from your room? (Or maybe it's Dis-lore...not sure!).

I have done a bunch of tours including the segway (which I have done 2 times I love it) anytime I have ever checked in the cm at the check in desk has never said anything about my upcoming tours nor was it in the packet. I do not think you have to worry about it. Are you staying club level?

Thanks for the info! I'm going to call the tour line and talk to a different person. When I booked, they said I wouldn't get any tickets or other confirmation, it would just be in my paperwork when I checked in. That didn't seem right to me. I'm not staying club level. (A dream for a future visit! )

So, it's been almost 4 years since we last went. Our day to make ADR's is coming up and I am looking for some opinions. Here are the resetaurants:

Big River Grille (Arrival Day), Bistro de Paris, The Wave, Coral Reef, Ohana, and Kouzzina. These will all be for dinner and not lunch.

Thanks!

Sorry to repost this but I didn't see a response. Thanks!

We love the Wave and Ohana. We used to always go to Coral Reef but then the menu changed and it didn't appeal that much to us. Looks like it's changed again so now I'm considering making an ADR there for our July trip.

Dee - looks like we have some of the same favorite cs!
Mine are:

MK - Columbia Harbor House
AK - Flame Tree BBQ
DHS - Starring Rolls - great sandwiches and pastries!
EP - Sunshine Season, the bakeries in France and Norway (although the kids love Liberty Inn and the cs in China - the same things they can get at the Mall!)

You are correct- when you call the main number for Disney, even if you ask for the Yacht or Beach Club, you are connected to a call center.

I have two phone numbers listed in the info on the front page:

407-934-8000 for the BC and 407-934-7000 for the YC. Does anyone know if that actually connects you to the resort or if it takes you to a call center?
