2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Sorry to repost this but I didn't see a response. Thanks!
Coral Reef is the only one our family has visited and it is a must for every vacation. The Wave is on our list to visit this trip.

Dee - looks like we have some of the same favorite cs!
Mine are:

MK - Columbia Harbor House
AK - Flame Tree BBQ
DHS - Starring Rolls - great sandwiches and pastries!
EP - Sunshine Season, the bakeries in France and Norway (although the kids love Liberty Inn and the cs in China - the same things they can get at the Mall!)

We share three of the same favorites too. Our family's favorite CS
MK - Columbia Harbor House
AK - Flame Tree BBQ
DHS - Starring Rolls
EP - we don't really have a favorite as we like to try different places each time, especially in the different countries in WS.

Good to know I wasn't committing a faux pas :thumbsup2. Regarding the front desk, I thought I read here that when you call the front desk, you're getting a general line, not really your actual resort desk? Or maybe that's if you call from your room? (Or maybe it's Dis-lore...not sure!).

Thanks for the info! I'm going to call the tour line and talk to a different person. When I booked, they said I wouldn't get any tickets or other confirmation, it would just be in my paperwork when I checked in. That didn't seem right to me. I'm not staying club level. (A dream for a future visit! )

I thought maybe if you were staying club level they might have your information in the packet or something like that.

Like I said before Ive done Kttour, segway tour 2 times, and wild africa trek all on separate trips and no one every mentioned anything about my plans for tours when I checked in. You do not get any tickets when you book all i every had was a confirmation no. and was told where to check in thats it no follow up, no confirmation calls by disney nothing said by any cast member when i checked in. i think you will be ok :thumbsup2

Hi Everyone! First of all, thanks for all the great info.
We are taking our first trip to BC June 12-19.
When I originally booked our trip we got the Spring Discount but that was only applied to the first 3 nights of our stay. Then, Disney released the Summer Discount so I thought it would just be easy to apply that discount to the remaining nights..but no..not with Disney. Since it is two different discounts I can't apply it to the same package. I would have to break up my trip into to different trips..one with the Spring Discount and one with the Summer Discount. Well, of course Disney doesn't have any of the Standard rooms available for the Summer Discount. So, basically I can leave my trip as is with only the Spring Discount or I can move to a water view for the last 4 night of my trip and save $157. I am just wondering if it is really worth the hassle to switch rooms. Has anyone done this in past that can offer their experience?
One other question..does anyone have a map of the room numbers? I would really like to get us over by the quiet pool so it is a little quieter.
Thanks!!

BuckeyeScott--I am not sure what I would do. If the savings was higher, I would say yes but I think it just depends on your family.

Question for the recent guests: Are the crab legs still every night at Cape May? Rumors on other boards say it is only Friday nights (or just Sundays). Just want to make sure since the crab is what we are heading there for!!

Please add us to the Be Our Guest page. We are staying at the YC from 9/26-10/1/12. It will be our first time there. The past two Septembers we stayed at the Dolphin but for some reason both the Dolphin and the Swan are completely booked on Sat. the 29th. So decided to try the YC. :)

:welcome:

I'll add you both to the Page 1 Be Our Guest list.

Here is the map you are looking for, although I am hesitant to post it because

1) it is really out of date, the room categories are not correct, there were only standard and waterview categories at the time and
2) we generally recommend that you don't request room numbers (see the FAQ post on page 1). So you would be better asking for what you want (a room near the quiet pool)

As others have indicated, your family needs to decide about switching rooms. For me, the view is not important- I always book Standard View, but saving money IS attractive to me, so if it is even less money for a waterview room, I would make the mid-trip switch.

Got my second Mickey mail today with the luggage tags and the discount vouchers! So exciting!! 26 days. I'm shocked. Thanks to all here for helping me through my loooong months waiting! :)

I know this has been answered before, but I'm starting to generally collect up all our vacation stuff and the kids asked about their snorkel sets. They used them in the pool in Cuba every day, but I don't think snorkels and fins are allowed in SAB are they? Also we have floaties, but I know that these are not allowed either, right? Less to pack! LOL

DH and I are still debating the DDP. I called in and got a quote - $1745.00. I ran the numbers for our reservations, using only entree, drink and dessert plus tax, and came up with about $945.00. It came down to whether we would spend $75 a day (for four people - 3 "adults" one child) on one quick service meal and one snack each. I think we can do cheaper than that, but the convenience... Sorry I keep coming back to this topic. LOL BTW the CM told me I could add the DDP up to 72 hours prior to check-in without penalty.

Any comments or suggestions VERY WELCOME.

I am hoping for some advice on the best use of time for our arrival day. I remember reading in previous threads that some people suggested hanging out at the resort or visiting other resorts if the arrival time is in the afternoon. However, with being so close to Epcot and HS, I wondered if it would be worth it to head over to one of those parks to at least see the night time display?

We are not arriving until Tuesday, November 20. Our plane is scheduled to arrive at MCO around 12:46, so I figured we would be arriving and checking into the Beach Club around 3:00.

My original thought was to head over to Epcot and just soak up as much of the World Showcase as possible and stay for Illuminations. If we do this, I am still trying to decide if I want to take the time out of that narrow window with a table-service meal, or just enjoy various bites around the World Showcase for dinner.

My second thought was to make dinner reservations for Cape May around 5:00 then head over to HS to watch the second showing of Fantasmic. At this time, I am leaning away from a Fantasmic dinner package because none of those restaurants offered as part of the package are ones that were on my list of restaurants to try. With only seven nights at Disney, I hate to eat somewhere for the sake of convenience and not because it is a place we really want to eat. Is the Fantasmic package really that much of a necessity? I have read that you need to be there 45 minutes early to claim your seat, so how is this different to me staking a place in the regular line at 7:00 to see Fantasmic at 8:00?

Or...is the overall best use of time to just stay at the hotel, swim, eat dinner, watch a movie on the beach, then find a place to view Illuminations from the hotel or Boardwalk?

Can anyone tell me about the Sandcastle club? Will dd5 and ds10 be split up? I think dd would freak out if they were. Also is it mostly younger kids? Im worried ds might be bored.

The walk to EPCOT is soooooo short that I would not be able to stay away! Its also my favorite park, too, so there is that. Plus, I don't know when you'll be there, but the pool is open pretty late. It was often our activity after EPCOT closed.

Being so close to the parks makes it so hard to not go into them. When we stayed at CR last summer we planned to not go to MK until our first full day. That last all of 30 minutes. We were just ready to get into the park! I think the same thing will happen when we are at BC this summer.

We love Cape May so I am partial to that but eating around the World Showcase is so much fun too, I don't think you can go wrong.

We're getting really excited here too! Do you mind if I ask what discount vouchers did you get?

I am not sure about the items for the pool.

As for the DDP, it is a hard decision, as it is very convenient. We have always done the plan, but that is because we have two children and do several character meals, so for us, it pays off. Good luck with your decision.

We always head to Epcot the day we arrive at BCV. We are much too excited to visit a park to wait until the next day. Epcot is so close.

As for dinner at Cape May, we did that once on the first day, and we felt that with traveling, we were a little tired and didn't appreciate the buffet as much as we would have later in the week. Cape May is our favorite restaurant, but now we save it for later in the week. We now opt for a nice sit down restaurant on our first day, and have someone bring the food to us.:) If you do not have plans to eat at Cape May later in the week though, I would recommend trying it out. It is quite good.

Don't know the ages of your family, if you are coming with children, and generally are you commandos or layed-back Ohioans? November 20 is a good time to be at WDW as most of your Christmas decorations will be up by then. You will be in and settled at the hotel by 2:30 which leaves you a lot of time. If you are commando, I would recommend heading to Epcot and get it all in, especially the WS area. You should be able to pick up a number of the rides up front. You will be battling the T-day crowds in just a day or two so it might be good to get it all in now. My DW and I are more relaxed WDW visitors as we've been there, done that, and now are just going back to enjoy the ambiance of the holidays. We would do some resort hoping to look at decorations, make a nice ADR for dinner at some place like Artist Point or Jiko, and then be back at the resort to check out the high fireworks from the show around 9:00. I guess it realy depends on your family, your touring style and what you really want to do.

I struggled with this too! We arrive at 1, and I figure we'll be at the BC at 3. DD wants to go to Japan but I doubt that we could keep DS out of the pool. I got an ADR for Teppan Edo at 7:30 because I figure I'll be there anyway with DD. How many park tickets did you get? If you have one for every day, you wont be able to keep yourself out of WS! I just hope we can get DS dried off for dinner! LOL

We looked into the Fantasmic dining package, but the eating times were strange - like 3:30. I decided to just book Brown Derby for the Fantasmic night for 6 and take our chances with the line.

We got the stuff that's on the website with the MYW package - the discounts off spa treatments and fishing excursions, but also a free arcade card, free round of mini golf... Better than a poke in the eye, as my DH would say!! :)

I think I want the DDP, but DH is still pondering. :confused3

Goggles are ok, but I don't think snorkels or especially fins are allowed at SAB. You might be able to use them at the quiet pools, but I wouldn't bother.

Now that you have started to receive Mickey mail, it is not going to be too long now!!!

Thanks for the confirmation, Dee! More room in the suitcases for souvenirs. :rotfl:

And not long until the monorail is VERY rude to Mickey for you!!!!

Don't worry. My ds has gone for the last several years and he's now 11!
In fact he likes it so much that he asks to go several times. The Sandcastle Club is one large area with several different activity areas. Your ds and dd can either stay together or split up, they won't separate them if they want to stay together. There are kids of all ages there.

Everyone I know who''s child stayed there said the hardest part was getting them to leave!!!
