2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Ok I know this has been asked but I have to ask for peace of mind. SAB will still be open when they are doing the repairs? Only part will be closed right?

Right! There is a picture, around pg 39, I believe, that highlights the area that will be closed.

We got the stuff that's on the website with the MYW package - the discounts off spa treatments and fishing excursions, but also a free arcade card, free round of mini golf... Better than a poke in the eye, as my DH would say!! :)

I think I want the DDP, but DH is still pondering. :confused3

Thanks! I'm not sure if we would get the discounts, since we are DVC. I received the 2nd part of our Mickey mail (for BCV), but not the first part (for BLT). In fact, I was a little concerned that we received our last portion first when the BLT items were mailed earlier. So, they are reprinting our tags and sending them to us, just in case.

Just saw your link to your pretrip report. I'm going to check it out tonight.

I keep reading conflicting info about what is allowed in the pools, both SAB and the quiet pools. Are these allowed?

Noodles
Floats
Buckets and shovels by the sandy area?

Thanks!

Our first visit is coming up in June and I have a few more questions!!!

1. Are bed rails available? If so, do they fit a king size bed?

2. At what age can my teens go to SAB without us?

3. can our toddler wear any sort of floaty? such as an all in one suit that floats? or water wings?

Thanks! :goodvibes

Noodles -yes
Buckets and shovels-yes
Floats- no, though sometimes at the lifeguard discretion they will let you use other things, we used a Small ring when my DS was about 2...as long as he was in arms reach they let us.

So is the picture on p39 accurate (in red) as to the part that's closed? Whos' going this weekend to confirm. We are heading there on April 15th.

DS4 wore a vest that clipped onto his swim trunks on our 1st visit when he was 2, then last year he had a vest that had little short sleeves on it, with a strap that went between his legs, and he was fine with both of those. Last year I could not keep him off of the big slide! I remember seeing kids in the all in one suits too.

I didn't see any official minimum age, although I'm sure there is one. Ours went alone at 11 & 14 (together). The 14-year old went alone by himself a few times too.

Anyone know how the Magical Express works? Do they wait for a bunch of people before leaving MCO? Since our wonderful airline United moved back our arrival I want to get us to the hotel ASAP. DW thinks I'm nuts but I'm trying to be the Dad of the Year. :cool1:

Teena, who works at BC and posts here regularly, did speak with those in the know at SAB and was actually shown exactly what would be closing and found out the details. She did confirm that the area in that map is accurate.

They won't wait long for people to fill the bus. There's always a minimal wait time involved with ME, but they won't sit around waiting for an hour just to fill a bus. The longest I've ever waited to board ME after checking in was 20 min. And from what I'ev seen on the baords, that's normal. That was when it was super crowded & they filled a bus, then we waited for another. I've also walked right into the queue & onto a waiting bus.

I've used ME many, many, many times & it's never been so empty that they didn't have enough to fill a bus. Even at 10:30pm there were plenty of people using ME to fill a few. They don't have a bus for each resort - there a few resorts boarded onto each bus, and the bus makes multiple stops. So if by chance there are only a few people waiting to use ME, I'm sure they will put everyone onto the same bus & get them where they're going.

Sounds great! Thanks for the info.

For anyone who is there now, or was very recently...... are they still doing construction on the outside of the YC building? When we were there last August they started replacing siding and repainting. We are arriving on 4/16 for a few nights and just wondering what to expect.

Thanks.

Ed

Just wondering, I looked at the picture of the pool on page 39, it looks like hardly any of the pool is open at all....ugh!!!! Someone please tell me we are going to enjoy our 3 days at the Beach Club lazing by the pool.

Even half closed, the pool is still wonderful. You will still enjoy! :) If you areseriously concerned, you can try to switch resorts... IGood luck with whatever you decide.

I think our opinion of ME is definitely one of the few poor ones....BUT I wanted to chime in to let you know our story. We had an afternoon flight that landed at MCO at 10:30, we got through the lines quick but just missed the ME for Beach Club. At the front of the line, we waited for about half an hour for enough people to run another bus. It was YC/BC, Boardwalk and Coronado Springs that day...wouldn't you know it with all the delux resorts on that bus they went to Coronado Springs first. They then went to Boardwalk, then YC and lastly, BC. We didn't pull up to the BC until after 1:00.

We have decided to not take ME again because of that poor experience but I have heard SOOO many people who have had a great experience. Just be aware that it has the potential to be a long trip to the resort and if you really are in a rush to get there, I'd arrange other transportation.

The areas of SAB that will remain open are the sandy kids area, the lazy river portion and the kiddie slide and pool area, plus the 3 quiet pools- one at BCV, one at BC and one at YC. In addition, you will be able to go over to the Boardwalk Inn and use the Luna pool and slide- transportation will be provided by golf cart or you can walk over if you want to use that pool.

I think you will still enjoy your pool time at the Beach Club.

Thanks! Yeh, I meant more a "ring" than a giant float. Not sure if we should bother bringing one but my DD can't swim yet so she uses a ring most of the time (and we are right will her). As long as noodles are allowed that is good.
