2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Wow - Sorry to hear about your bad experience with MouseKeeping. It's a real let-down when you expect perfection - and Disney prides itself on service - and get what you got. Keep us posted about the outcome of your letter, please. I would love to know what they say.

Hey All-

Just back from 7 nights at the BC with a 3-night cruise on the Dream added on the beginning for good measure. I wanted to provide you all with some impressions of our stay and some reflections of what I think Disney can do better.

This is my husband and I's 2nd stay in 2 years at the BC. I have stayed at BC or BCV 5 times due to work trips over the years. This time we were joined by my mom and dad who had an adjoining room to ours. We were in room 2580 and my folks were in room 2582. The rooms each had two full beds and a full balcony. It was a different set-up than the room we had last year which was a bit bigger and had a wet bar in the corner.

When we checked in on Sunday afternoon our rooms were ready and we said hi to Teena who was greeting guests in the lobby (hey Teena!) and went up to our rooms to change for dinner. We had been at baseball spring training all day and were in need of a change of clothes before the Flying Fish (ps? as great as ever!).

Immediately upon entering our room we noticed that the beds were not fully made. They had sheets on them, but no duvet or other blanket. We knew they were supposed to have another cover on them because we saw my parents room and they had a blue cover, duvet-ish thing over their beds as well as a coverlet over the ends of the bed. We of course called housekeeping and asked them to add the missing linens.

In my parents room, there is no other way to say it, the bathroom was dirty. There was urine in the toilet and there was towels on the floor. They had to call housekeeping as well.

It took over 2 hours for them to resolve the issue, but it ultimately was resolved for both rooms.

I wish I would have taken a picture of it but in our room the bed skirt on the bed closest to the window was ripped and frayed and askew from the bed. As we never slept in that one, it stayed like that the whole trip. and when I say ripped, I mean the seam was visibly ripped and frayed.

Another issue was the general "tiredness" of the room. In the bathroom the wall closest to the shower had peeling wallpaper and the actual plaster behind it was damp. No doubt from many showers hitting the wall. There were multiple black marks and nicks on the wall. The balcony was FILTHY the entire time we were there. There was no way to sit on the chairs or lean on the rail. They were dirty with bug and bird droppings. (which really? how hard is it to just wipe down the chairs and the railing? I know this insn't the Dream where it is done daily, but really?)

On our third night there we came back around 4 to go to the pool for a bit and then change for dinner. When we walked in there was a crib in our room near the door to the balcony. just my husband and I and we have no kids, sooooo...... we called housekeeping to come and get it, left for dinner, came back 3 hours later...it was still there. called around 10pm for them to come get it...still nothing. that crib stayed there the rest of the night and through the evening of the next day about 24 hours or so. I had to call three times but it eventually was removed.

Hey, I know I am going to get flamed for this, but at over $400/night I expect a bit more from our hotel room. I think, at the very least, it is time for a major rehab of the rooms at BC. Second, there needs to be some better management of housekeeping services. half made beds and dirty rooms just don't cut it. and finally, as a person that goes to Disney once a year, every year I deserve better. There was never an apology issued, never a call to make sure everything was ok. NOTHING.

I think this is the last time for a bit for the BC. and yes, I have written a letter to WDW about my disappointment.

Hope everyone else has a better stay than I did.

Jennifer

Darn Jennifer, I wish I had been there and you had told me what was going on. I would have gotten the right people involved and we'd have had you taken care of. I'm extremely sorry you had these room issues and I totally agree with you that you deserve better. Forget it being the BC, even at Allstars you deserve better than that. I'm glad you wrote a letter and I hope you described everything like you did here. If you didn't already, make sure the letter goes to Guest Communications but also a copy should go to our GM!! Your reporting your experience will get some heads rolling!!!

Maybe we'll run into you, GinCar!

You never know, "it's a small world!"
Can't miss me, big Texas blonde hair and an accent to go with it!

Oh well, I can't read any more of MM's posts, got to say MM, I keep paper towels by my PC simply because of you. You are simply hilarious.
Never a dull moment here. No siree.
Now, off to finish errands and pack. :goodvibes

LOL Big Texas hair & accent - now you know I will embarrass myself trying to strike up a conversation with anyone with big blonde hair!!

LOL - it's those darn kids I have - if it wasn't for them missing another day of school if we go earlier, I'd have that flight moved back to TODAY! :lmao:

Did I mention I'm toying with the last week of April too....it's the AP Syndrome....once we all have them, they truly make me go OCD planning trip after trip after trip!

I would like to add my Thanks to Dee as well!!!

My Waitlist for a long weekend in May came through this week. I am so excited to be taking my DH to the Flower & Garden Festival. He is a gardener at heart and I know he will love it. Since we have AP's this year, to return again in October with DS and DDiL, I told him this was the year to go. We never go 3 times in 12 months and I am excited.
Please add us to the Be Our Guest list for May 6th - May 9th at the BCV.

If the Noodles return (I'm sorry they are missing), I would love to sign up for them for our October trip.
That will be October 6th to October 13th

Bounceback Question---

I should just post this on the general Resorts Thread, but everyone here is just so knowledgeable!

What is the change/cancellation policy when booking a BB? AP discount right now is 30% but BB is 35%. Next week if I book a BB for April (so within 45 days) - but then need to change/cancel, what are the restrictions? Is there a penatly for cancelling within 45 days?

Bounceback is a room-only promotion/reservation so the 5 days prior to check in cancellation policy is in effect.

I'm so glad your wait list came through! BCV will be a fantastic homebase for Flower & Garden!

Can we be added to the Be Our Guest list, we will be visiting May 18-24! :)

:welcome:

Which resort Kimi?

I'll add your info to the list next time I update.

Thanks for all the input on multiple dinners at Epcot. That makes me feel so much better about our plans. Of course, now the dilema is DTD. We really want to try T-Rex, but I was also just telling DH about Raglan Road, not realizing that is at DTD as well. After all the TRs I have read, I think we would definately do one trip over there, but I think both places would be too much for one day. There is NO WAY we could eat two big meals in the heat. At least I know for sure it would be a cab ride home.

Look what I just saw:

Walt Disney World Resort has announced that complimentary Wi-Fi service is now available in all Walt Disney World Resort hotels. You can now access Wi-Fi in your resort room, as well as in select common areas within your Disney hotel, including restaurants, bus loading zones, feature pools, arcades, convention spaces (if applicable) and the porte cochere. NOTE: This does not include the campsites at Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. However, complimentary wired Internet access is available if you're staying there.

Kona is my favorite, too! Mmmm, others can have the Tonga Toast- the Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes are my favorite thing to eat in the World!

TOTALLY AGREE!!! I got the big kahuna last time, which has the pancakes and I was sold!!! But I hear the regular order of pancakes is even better!

Nope, you are NOT going to get flamed, in fact I want to thank you for being honest and sharing your experience. By doing so it will give other people an idea of how to handle this if they should encounter it. By talking about what happened with the people that read this board, hopefully some coping strategies and plans for action can come about that will help others down the road should they experience this lack of service and unacceptable conditions. I know it's a total PITA to have to deal with crap like this when you are on vacation and at some point you just say I'm tired of asking for assistance and being ignored.

So let's hear it people. What are your experiences where you've encountered a problem and then were successful at getting the help you needed? How did you do it?

I know when I experienced problems at ASMO with housekeeping, first I attempted to talk to the housekeeper about addressing the problem. When she SNARLED at me I went to my room and called housekeeping and asked that a supervisor be sent to my room. He came with in 10 minutes and for the rest of that week, even when I had a "do not disturb" sign on my door after an all nighter at the MK for One More Disney Day, Housekeeping would pound on the door until I answered it to provide service at the requested time. I had to laugh because I had created a monster but at least they weren't trying to make up my room in the middle of the day just as I was coming back for a rest.

I think the key here is to ask to speak with a supervisor when you are Continuing to experience problems. In my experience at ASMO I realized that the CM's that were charged with providing assistance were often out numbered and overwhelmed by the multitude of problems that were popping up at that resort. The were acting in the correct manner when responding to my requests for assistance, it's just that the other CM's that were supposed to render that actual help were understaffed and overwhelmed by the sheer amount of what they were asked to do. By speaking with a supervisor or manager, my concerns got pushed to the head of the line so to speak...

Like I said before, it's unacceptable that you would even have to interrupt your vacation to deal with this crap. That being said I now know that when I'm not heard the first time a request is made to render assistance, my next call will be straight to a manager.

I hope that the management of the Beach Club sees fit to make amends for they way they failed to handle the problems that you experienced.

Thanks again for sharing your experience. Please feel that you are a welcome addition to this board~ :grouphug:

Well MM you asked for it! Bad experience and how it was handled...well I have always loved all my disney stays but I find my trouble is with the central disney people. We were at BWI CL and the list of crazy mishaps that happened were comical - one after the other. My favorite being the CM that sold me on the CL upgrade told me that ALL my laundry would be free staying club level. What a great deal I thought. June so hot and sweaty. Perfect! Good thing I doublechecked that when I got there! Or another being the CL staff - who are awesome at BWI - but clearly not high on the chain of being informed of things - I knew more than the people at the desks. The assigned me a king bedroom with 3 people? Umm no. Told me I could drop my luggage off ANYTIME when the southwest pilot program was going on - ummm NO. Only at the Pop. Just tiny little thing after tiny thing of miscommunication.

So I wrote the nicest letter and got the nicest phonecall from a CM who credited me back a meal on my visa (not necessary I told her) and she allowed me to handpick my room for my next year's trip. Which if you know me by now, THAT Was priceless for me. My view!

So it wasn't anything wrong with a mousekeeping issue but INTERNAL disney communication!!! Just last week I asked the CL staff what was going on at SAB. Nothing I was told, no rehabs. Ok why is there mud and exposed pipes out there? oh didn't tknow about that...but that will be it...all will be done. Yesterday they announce on mousesavers the slide is down in april. Yet they don't communnicate this to the line of fire people!!! I don't get it...

Sorry aobut your room...beyond unacceptable! Even at a motel 6!!!

So the moral of this story is to ask and confirm the information with somebody different. This is why I love the Dis Boards. It's another source of information and like any source of information "Let the Buyer Beware".

I think we've all heard stories about calling the reservations line and getting the wrong information from CM's. With all the info I've picked up over the years about Disney from sites like this and others on the web I sort of know to check with some one else to confirm the information I've been told.

I think this is just as applicable in real life as at Disney. To illustrate my point I'll tell you about the time my roof was leaking and I called a roofer. The first one said I needed a whole new roof. The roof was only 14 years old so I kind of doubted that. I called another guy and he said New Roof! Still I wasn't sure so I called a 3rd guy and said I needed half of a new roof. Hmm.... I thought so I called a fourth guy. He said I needed half of a new roof and new soffits. Finally I called a 5th guy. He said that the putty that sealed off the vent pipes that protruded through the roof had dried out and that I needed new putty around those pipes and the leaks would stop. Oh and by the way that would cost $75 bucks. "SOLD!" I said and after the next big down pour guess what I discovered.... NO MORE LEAKS!

So now I ask around and when I start to hear the same thing, or when it sounds right, I believe it. If it sounds too good to be true I'll question it, but in the case of the $75 dollar roof fix it turns out to be true!

The way MM handled her situation is the way we should all handle situations. If it's a housekeeping issue, call housekeeping and tell them you need to speak with a housekeeping manager. Period end. And if after speaking with a housekeeping manager, you don't get total satisfaction, ask to speak to the housekeeping manager's boss. Mistakes and mishaps happen. Unfortunately we don't have inspectors that go around and check each room after the room has been cleaned every day. I sure wish we did!!! I had a guest check into a room that was totally wrecked. The housekeeper that cleaned it after the last guest left, cleaned the room but didn't call and report various MAJOR room maintenance issues. I think a herd of gorillas stayed in that room ... the amount of damage was unbelievable. The housekeeper marked it clean and ready for the next guest so that poor guest was checked into a clean room but a clean room in horrible condition. That room should have been put out of order immediately. Things happen everywhere. No place is perfect. But whether you are in a Motel 6 or at the Four Seasons, you should have a decent clean room. Rooms show wear and tear obviously and especially at WDW where there are loads of children. However, if it is more than the normal wear and tear and your room is not clean the way it should be, then let us know immediately and if it is not taken care of within a reasonable amount of time, go a step higher until it is taken care of. What happened to woodleygrrl I'm sure has happened and probably alot worse to other guests at all the other resorts too. It should never happen but it does. But thank goodness it's the minority and not the majority of experiences.

We had our worse experience at WDW as far as housekeeping at the Grand Floridian. I still love the Grand Floridian and even though that one visit was a housekeeping disaster, we went back the following year. It was just bad luck that we got the housekeeper that obviously didn't care about her job. We reported everything and it was eventually all fixed. It started with our throwing back the bedspread to jump into bed and find sheets with bloody stains on them (dark). Then the toilet leaked and the shower drain was messed up so that ugly brown (need I say more) stuff came bubbling up from it. Holy cow ... what a bad start. It took a few phone calls before it was all fixed. But I know it was just bad luck. I figured it wouldn't happen the next time we were there and it didn't.

MM handled her situation perfectly. Just remember, most of us CMs at WDW want you to have a wonderful vacation and will move heaven and earth to make it happen. I truly believe that.

What fantastic advice!! Thanks for the OP for sharing her experience and for all of the constructive advice.

So, (drum roll please) I MADE MY LAST PAYMENT. :cool1:
