2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

First off------Enjoy your first BC stay. You will LOVE It!!

The easiest route would be to pickup a can of spray sunscreen at the BC Marketplace. that way you don't have to sit around and wait for your delivery. The cost will be very close.

We have used GG for the past 2 trips, with no problems. We like to have some granola bars and protein shakes for a quick morning "breakfast" on the way to the parks, and a little something salty to take to the pool. Water and Gator-aid are a MUST on my GG order!!

and the Marketplace will sell the spray sunscreen?? brand is really the issue, he just doesnt like stuff "rubbed" on his arms/legs...:confused3...he doesnt do lotions either - something about the stuff making his arm/leg hairs stick to him..or something..and the man isnt even a hairy man!! :rolleyes1

that might be the way we do it - just buy it at the marketplace...I know on one of the threads around here there are pics of some of the things for sale in the Marketplace..maybe I'll poke around and see if I can find some!

you guys ROCK!!! :worship:

I like this line of thinking....I only have 3 more Mondays to go before my first visit to Beach Club! :thumbsup2

I read this and thought "That's Great!" Then I realized I only have 3 more Mondays to go and I'm not ready yet!!!:rotfl:

We are trying to decide between yacht or beach club- standard view rooms and I honestly think it is just going to come down to which one has the better standard view rooms. Which do you guys prefer for standard view rooms? Yacht or beach? They both have balconies, right?

If you want the full balcony, YC is pretty much a guarantee and BC is just a request. To me they are really just 2 parts of the same resort and I'll take whichever one is available at a discount.

ok all you "smart cookies" out there - I have 2 questions for you...

We have our first stay at the BC coming up next month (I made a countdown and as of today, I have 18 work days before we're there!!)..and Im going to place an order for the Garden Grocer..which is also new to us!

I'm ordering a case of water, a case of gatorades, a jug of distilled water and a can of spray sunscreen - here's where the question comes in..

We'll be at the hotel by 11ish, (we land at 9:40am so however long ME takes to get us there)...and we'll need sunscreen..my DH refuses(!!) to use lotion/rub on sunscreen which is why Im ordering a bottle of sunscreen b/c my other cans of sunscreen are in my luggage and will not be delivered until later in the day -if I have my Garden Grocer order delivered for that day will it be there that early or can I have it delivered the day before and have the hotel "hold it"?

I've been looking for a 3oz can of spray sunscreen, but the smallest I can find is 5oz!!

:rotfl2:

any thoughts/suggestions??

thanks!!

I have ordered from GG and put in a delivery time that was roughly the time that we landed. By the time we checked in, our groceries (and sunscreen) were already there waiting for us. :goodvibes

I think I remember seeing some on the first page.

I know last year we went through more than one can (we used it in the morning before heading to the parks, and in the afternoon before heading to the pool) so you may still want to keep one can on order for a backup.

You will be surprised at what the marketplace has to offer.

A week from tomm. we will be at the BC!

Teena - Have a great time in Vegas and Lily is growing up so fast. A real princess:. That was so nice that you were able to be with that family. We will say hi to you when we are there.

2 questions

1. What is the closest grocery store to BC? I dont care about the price, just want a case of water and some bananas.

2. Do they sell H2O products in the stores? Anyone know the prices?

1. Are you coming from the airport? Or from the West? Coming from the airport, we sometimes stop at a Super Target just South of 417 at Orange Blossom Trail. After we're settled at WDW if I need anything I usually go to
the Publix at XCentury which is on S. International Drive just before 192....South of Gaylord Palms if you know where that is. It's about a 10 minuted drive from the BC. If coming from the West, there is a Super Target near the new expressway.

2. Yes, they do. Sorry, don't know the prices.

We are having Tiffany Towncar take us (My dh does not care for the magical express)

I know we pass the Goodings Supermarket? Is that the closest.

I am trying to save as much time as possible because we need to check in, go buy aps and tiw card, which will take a little time and then get to a dinner adr that we cant be late for because of the cc hold on it.

So would Goodings be the best choice?

If Goodings is still open, it is relatively close....maybe closest as the crow flies? But with all the lights, I don't think it's fastest. And I don't know why Tiffany would go by that area on the way to BC? Seems out of the way to me....oh, maybe they drive on I-4 instead of 417? If so, probably. If they take 417, I would do the Target at OBT.

Goodings has always been so expensive. And last time I was in it a year or two ago, it was forlorn in there.

YAY we're finally doing the single digit dance!!!! I first came on here in November and cannot believe our trip is so close :) We've had a rough year with its fair share of ups and downs so I cannot wait to celebrate a nice getaway with our family. :goofy::goofy::goofy::goofy::goofy:

Quick q that my son asked yesterday... how "hot" are the hot tubs? He loves hot tubs but of course we don't let him in if they are scorching hot. I know that some resorts they have bath temp hot tubs for the kids too. Thanks!

Bump please?

Also while I'm at it, does anyone know if children can take dive toys into the pool at SAB? Thanks!

I rarely post but had to after reading yours. I am so sorry for your loss. I too recently lost my parent to a massive stroke (January 24th), but in my case it was my mom. She was my biggest fan of my annual Disney World trips and she always had to hear every single detail when I returned home. She was always so excited to see what I would bring home for her and was like a little girl when she was opening her packages, oohing and aahing over everything. She particularly loved the blue castle blanket I brought home for her last year more than any of her other gifts and she always had it covering her little legs as she watched tv. I made sure it was with her in the hospital and even though she too never fully regained consciousness, I took comfort knowing she had something she loved next to her. Knowing how much she loved it, I now keep it on the end of my bed.

I'm sure your dad would want to to have a wonderful time with your wife and kids and I know I will be sharing this trip with my mom, even though it will be only in spirit.

Take care.

I am truly and deeply sorry about your loss and everyone else that posted about their losses. I really know what it feels like to be sorry for such a loss. There is an incredible amount of pain but we must go on. I know my Dad would not want me to be sad all of the time. He always wanted his family to be happy and did everything in his power to make that so.

Thank you all once again. This forum certainly has helped get through these rough times. :)

I am really starting to get excited about the trip. We will be arriving at the swan on the 19th, then moving over to the yc cl on the 22nd.

My family needs this trip so bad. Long story short, my mom and dad were supposed to join us but my dad had a massive bleeding stroke in late Feb at only 68. He passed away late march without fully waking up. He was my best friend and we all did so many things together. This would have been his first trip to Disney world. :(

So now its just my wife and kids. It may be bitter sweet but my dad would want us to go and have a good time.

This thread and others like it has kept my mind off being severely depressed. Replanning the trip has been sorta like therapy the past few weeks...thank you.

I am so sorry for your loss, I know the pain all too well. I lost my mother (it was 2 years in January) and she too was my best friend, we spoke on the phone at lest once sometimes twice a day everyday!! We had been planning our trip for over a year and a half when her health was starting to slip. I spoke to her over and over for months about calling the trip off (my fear was I would be in Disney when she did pass), she would not stand for it!!!! Whenever I would mention not going she would get mad at me, she knew she was going to die weather we took our trip or not. Long story short, we took the trip (Thanksgiving '09) and while we were there they doctors told her there was nothing more they could do for her, it was just a matter of time.
I spent most of my vacation feeling guilty but putting on a brave face for my boys. While she made it thru the holidays she lost her battle on Jan 5, 2010. I have to say she made it very clear to me that she was so happy I took my boys to Disney for the holiday and she was able to share in the joy of their stories:wizard:
Plan your vacation and make amazing memories with your family and know that your Dad is there in your heart!!!
Laurie
P.S. I too found a lot of comfort here on the Dis:worship: It is a wonderful escape from reality:wizard:

I think we have gone and lost "the Feckless". Has anybody seen or heard from her?? Do you think she overdosed on one of those Kitchen Sink Sundaes and is now hanging out at the bathroom sink?

Perhaps her children did her in? You know how children can turn on you..... ::yes::

Please come back Feckless and give us another update.... even if you're back home and you have to make it up! We'll believe you!!! :thumbsup2

I've never used GG, so I can't speak to that, but I think the hotel shops sell spray sunscreen, IIRC. It would cost you more for the can, but might be your easiest/fastest solution. Because you might not be able to get into your room that early, you would have to get the GG order and go through it to find sunscreen and then store it again until the room is ready. It just seems like a pain to me, so I'd rather just send someone over to the shop and grab a can while I was checking in at the front desk and be ready to go to the parks sooner.

Bell Services probably will let you go into the room where they are storing your groceries to let you get what you need. They let me go back there at the BoardWalk. They let me go back there at Beach Club when Garden Grocer forgot part of our order, and I wanted to see if it had been left back there by mistake.

By the way, the Bell Services guy told me that it's not unusual for Garden Grocer to forget some of your items. I called, and they brought it the next day. Waiting an extra day for the vitamin water wasn't a problem for us. Waiting an extra day for sunscreen could be a problem for you, if they don't sell it at the Beach Club Marketplace.

Last year I made the mistake of assuming that Beach Club Marketplace would sell some kind of Chapstick-type item with SPF. I was wrong. They didn't.

I've missed a couple of days of updates! LOL Best one: as Teena said, I got to meet her on Monday! Yahoo!! :) And this was the picture she was talking about: someone posted it on my Facebook page with the caption: "Look who was at your house when you were visiting Mickey and Minnie!"

moose.jpg

It's sniffing my vehicle. :scared1:

Teena, it was SO NICE to meet you, and the kids were so excited to find out about the pin book for trading at the Concierge desk. I hope you have a very special Mothers Day with Jeanie. How lovely that you went to the hospital with that little boy! :)

Anyway, Monday was supposed to be a rest day, but we decided to go to Animal Kingdom mid-morning and then go directly to our dinner at Boma. We had a great day - only problem was that when we went back for our second ride on EE it was shut down. I've had to set aside my touring plans because of competing interests in our big group, but there really are no big crowds so it's been OK just riding stuff with 20 mins or less and getting FPs for other attractions. We REALLY enjoyed our dinner at Boma - my DD said it was one of her favourite meals, and the mashed potatoes were amazing. I think it was my favourite. I loved the flavours and the decor was great. I loved going up to the savannah lookout - the giraffes were really close! :) My DD loved it there, and demanded to stay there next trip. I will only agree to a split stay!!! LOL My DH wasn't interested in staying there - said he likes the BC and the proximity to the two parks and the pool. So, we have another convert! :lmao:

When we came back, it was pouring rain. DD and I decided to don our ponchos and head to DHS EMH. DH and DS were tired and went back to the room. When we got there the place was close to empty - everyone was leaving because of the weather. So, we walked on to TOT and RRC and did Star Tours twice. Went back to TOT and were just about to board the elevator and they said there was a problem. We waited about 10 minutes and then evacuated the whole building. Got a FP for anytime until May 15th. I have to say that riding TOT in the actual pouring rain and lightning was certainly an experience!!!

Yesterday we all planned to go to FW for a few hours in the morning with the other family, but DS got upset with the heat and the sunblock stung him on a spot on his face which was a bit burned, so he refused to go. DH stayed back with him and they spent the day in SAB. This is why staying onsite rocks - it didn't affect everyone else. We did the FW attractions again, and tried MS on orange. I loved it! :) Apparently I'm up for all thrill rides. LOL Came back and got in the pool, and then hit Biergarten. A literal sausage fest - kids really liked it. DS ate a LOT and drank three big beer steins of chocolate milk (more on that later). Walked back to the BC and impressed the other family with our knowledge of the "secret entrance". I heard DS say, "If you see the fish lamps, you know you are going the right way!" :rotfl2: It was SO FREAKIN HOT and it was very refreshing! LOL

I had ADRs for Sci Fi today, so got up early and hit the lounge. DS said his stomach hurt and then he barfed all the chocolate milk. Poor kiddo! DH was quick thinking and we can advise that there is another use for the HH green buckets. We told concierge about DS being sick (some got on the carpet. Ewww) and they said housekeeping would be by right away. They didn't show up for at least an hours or more. DH had to call again. Every other request we made this trip, they came up right away. Another robe? Less than 2 minutes, same with the shampoo. I guess they needed to arrange the carpet cleaning. Once they came, it took an hour or so. DS actually fell asleep in the Club Lounge. :(

DH stayed back again with DS and I took DD to DHS with the other family. Rode TOT and RRC again with her. Missed the redneck ride photo and it was so good had to buy it. LOL Then did Muppets and the Great Movie Ride. I remember being amazed by the Muppets in 2009, but we see so many movies in 3D now that it is a bit "blah". Still liked it though!

Came back and DS was sleeping. I had gotten him two movies to keep him going while DD and I were gone but one was in Spanish. LOL French is OK, but only DH speaks Spanish. LOL Unfortunately that was National Treasure 2, so DH was forced to watch Freaky Friday. Poor guy!!! Ha ha ha DS and DD have been watching the Simpsons on the iPad for a couple of hours now while DH went out to explore Epcot on his own.

Tomorrow is our last full day. :( I want to get up and do morning EMH at MK. I will go by myself if nobody else is up, in fact I'm looking forward to it!!! Maybe if DS is up for it, we can go to the Lego Store at DDD tonight. He says he wants to go, and he was only sick that one time this morning, and had his last bout of diarrhea at lunchtime. This is only the fourth time in his 9 years that he has thrown up so if this is contagious, we are really in trouble. DD is actually very susceptible to stomach sicknesses and was sick so much when she was in 3rd and 4th grade that we had a full barrage of tests done (all negative). DS never gets sick. He even slept in bed with DH and I when we had Norwalk and he didn't get it. So, I'm hoping it was something he ate, or the fact that he got a sunburn in the pool yesterday (maybe mild sunstroke? but in Cuba last year he was burned worse and didn't get sick... Oh well, time will tell!!!) Cross your fingers and toes for us, people!!!!

I might have to spring for the $200 scent machine because I am completely in LOVE with the lobby smell... What was the Bath and Body Works cheat again?????:rotfl:

Posting my mammoth update at the same time!!! LOL!!!!

There is another women's Beach Club t-shirt! I took a pic and will post when I get home. I don't think that we had a pic of this one - it's stripey and v-necked and very nice but a very very small cut. The xxl looked like a very small xxl to me. Plus it's 60% polyester, so I'm not buying it, but it might be really nice for someone else!

Edited to say that I asked several times if the resort-specific merchandise was here to stay and the answer was always a resounding YES. :)

Feckless- thanks for the great update! I guess when you store them up, you are able to share some really interesting stories. Although I'm sorry to hear your DS is under the weather.

That is really cool about the Moose. Maybe it is one from the Canadian Pavilion who thought you were house swapping.

Enjoy your last day!

Safe travels home if you don't have a chance to pop back on.

Dee

Great update Feckless!

Sorry to hear your son is so sick and sorry to hear it is your last day. I hope all goes well and that you return home with great memories and leave the stomach issues behind.

Here's a couple of pictures of the items available at the BC Marketplace for you and the poster who asked yesterday.

It looks like there is some spray-type sunscreen (2nd picture, top shelf)

I bought this shirt a couple weeks ago. I didn't try it on but bought medium. Hope it fits!!

By the way..I just started a new TR. Link in my signature.

How does this sound for a two day plan for 2 adults and 2 fifteen year olds?

Monday Oct 8
Check in about 10am, explore CL lounge (whats there that time?), have lunch at HH by 1130 to beat the crowds, hit SAB til about 3pm than get ready for MSSHP and get there between 4&5, have counter service dinner somewhere(?), close MK.

Tuesday Oct 9
Breakfast at CL lounge, SAB all day, lunch at HH, mid-day snack at HH (kitchen sink), later dinner buffet at Cape May.

Wednesday Oct 10
Breakfast ot CL lounge, SAB for a couple of hours before check out.

As you can see, SAB figures very centrally in our vacation plans:)

I know there are lots of great choices for meals at the YC/BC, feel like we are going to miss out on so much. This is our first time at BC and so excited, can't wait for my family to see how cool it is!

Any suggestions? Changes?

Thanks!

Sounds like a great plan, BUT, I was there last year during those exact dates and it rained hard (5+ inches of rain on Oct 8, 2011).
http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KORL/2011/10/8/DailyHistory.html We are not too concerned, we booked for the same time (we'll be there Oct 6 - 13), but I am already planning alternatives for our one SAB day in case it gets rained out again, so my recommendation is to have a non-SAB plan B in case it rains.
