I'm leaving on a jetplane.......

Arriving MCO late tonight, checking in BC Sunday AM.

I'm taking the ipad so I'll try to send some live reports.

See you soon Teena.

:banana::banana:

I start at 9:30 in the lobby. Will you be there earlier than that?

Thanks for the well wishes, guys! Hurricane Maria blew through too fast to cause much damage. Very windy today but the sun is out. No power outages.

Waiting for the 2012 Unofficial Guide to come out on Kobo! It's already out for the Kindle...

Cripes, 5 pages to catch up on. Okay, got to ask what is a Tastycake? :confused3 being from the far north of the UK I have no knowledge of these things, even though I have had 5 trips to the magic place :thumbsup2

A Tastykake is something you have to eat when you can't find Entemen's.

OK, the real answer is that it's an individual wrapped serving of various kinds of desert cakes. They are a Philadelphia Pennslyvania tradition and people frequently pack these cakes as part of their lunches. Some examples of Tastykakes are chocolate cupcakes, vanilla sponge cakes with a cream or jelly filling and individual servings of fruit pies.

I was raised on Tastykakes but I love the offerings from a New York City bakery company by the name of Entemens, especially since they have a discount outlet right near my house :thumbsup2

Tastycakes are made in Philadelphia. They make cupcakes and pies. So good. Sort of like Little Debby stuff but IMO 1000 times better. Unfortunately you can't find them many places away from the Philly area. And that's the area where I grew up. Actually some of the stores in Florida have started to carry one or two of them but my favorites you can never find in Florida. My poor daughter is in worse shape because they rarely can find any in Nevada. Her favorite is the Peanut Butter Tandycakes. Mine are the Chocolate Tandycakes and the chocolate juniors and coconut juniors. Once you've tasted a Tastycake, it's hard to go back and eat Little Debbies!! Just my opinion though ... don't want to offend any Little Debby lovers!

Looking forward to it. I work until 5:45 PM. I'm usually gone for lunch at 12:45 to 1:20 and then a short break for 10 minutes at 4 PM.

Thanks for your hours, Teena :goodvibes I will be visiting Beach Club and hopefully touring the Beach Club Villas on Friday morning, September 30th :cool1: I will make sure I look for you :woohoo: We are down for a long weekend just because I want to be in the Magic Kingdom for the 40th anniversary even if there is not much planned/announced yet  We are also doing our first MNSSHP :yay: I can't wait :dance3:

I only work Sundays and Mondays .. it's my retirement job ... two days a week is perfect!

Hey, Teena, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but my urologist told me that chocolate contributes to kidney stones. Didn't you have a problem with them right before the Princess was born?

My urologist also said that spinach contributes to kidney stones, but I haven't heard about anyone bringing you spinach as a gift.

I don't know if your doctor agrees or has a different opinion.

We don't want you having health problems... we want you in the Beach Club lobby! (Except when you're on vacation in the Beach Club pool.)

He told me to cut down on iced tea but nothing else so I think I'm good. It's so funny, every person that has had kidney stones tells me that their doctor said to cut back on something different. The nurse in the hospital told me to drink more cranberry drinks but my doctor said that was rubbish. So now instead of drinking iced tea 99% of the time, I drink it about 50% of the time and the other 50% is usually lemonaide.

Hmm.... I wonder how this little bit of info will impact hotel pricing strategies (at the Beach Club) in the months to come.....

Analyst: Bookings soft at Disney World's moderate and deluxe resorts

By Jason Garcia, Orlando Sentinel

2:53 p.m. EDT, September 16, 2011

Citing concerns about weakness at Walt Disney World's mid- and high-priced hotels, a Wall Street analyst on Friday lowered his earnings projections for the Walt Disney Co.'s theme-park division.

"Based on our tracking of hotel occupancy at Walt Disney World, we believe the value resorts are seeing slightly better trends than moderate/deluxe resorts" for the fall and early winter, UBS Investment Research analyst John Janedis wrote in a note to investors.

Moderate and deluxe rooms together account for approximately 60 percent of Disney World's hotel inventory.

UBS said it now expects Walt Disney Parks and Resorts to generate $1.62 billion in earnings before interest and taxes during Disney's next fiscal year, which begins next month. That's about 2 percent lower than the firm's previous estimate of $1.66 billion.

Disney has been steadily raising prices at its U.S. hotels and theme parks in hopes of conditioning travelers to no longer expect the deep discounts Disney offered during the deepest part of the global recession. And checks by UBS indicate that rates are up across the board at Disney hotels — including by roughly 3 percent at the lowest-priced, value hotels, such as Disney's All-Star Resorts.

UBS said rates are up by mid-single-digit percentages at Disney's moderate hotels, such as Disney's Port Orleans Resort, and by low- to mid-single-digit percentages at its deluxe hotels, such as Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

"However, we think occupancy levels are flat to down [year over year], particularly at the deluxe resorts and only slightly better at the value/All-Star resorts," Janedis wrote. "Given the relative price points — with deluxe-resort average rates 200 percent greater — the mix could also be having somewhat of an impact on parks margins."

Disney World has approximately 21,600 hotel rooms in its inventory, not including Disney Vacation Club time-share units, which are also rented out to travelers. Of the hotel inventory, about 8,400 rooms, or 39 percent, are value rooms.

About 7,500 rooms, or 35 percent, are moderate and about 5,600 rooms, or 26 percent, are deluxe. The share of value rooms will swell further next year with the opening of Disney's Art of Animation Resort, Disney World's first new hotel since Disney's Pop Century Resort, another value hotel, opened in 2003.

The occupancy rate in Disney's U.S. hotels — which includes roughly 2,400 rooms at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif. — was 81 percent during the third quarter of the company's fiscal year, which ended July 2. That was down one percentage point from a year ago. But per-room spending, which includes the average nightly room rate, jumped 14 percent for the period.

Management said in August that fiscal fourth-quarter bookings were running 2 percent behind last year's pace, while room rates were up by a mid-single-digit percentage.

Maybe we can expect better discounts . Apparently WDW lowering discount% to "condition us" to no more discounts isn't working so much! Esp. since WDW mod & deluxe pricing is so over inflated.
I know i won't book deluxe without a pretty good discount.

We are going regardless of the discounts offered, but I'd love to get a good room only discount for next March.

In a perfect world they will be making enough money to keep up the good service, but bookings will be low enough to have them offer a good room discount and to keep the park occupancy a little lower. In a perfect world.

I prefer a room discount as opposed to free dining as I have an annual pass and don't like to lose much time to sit down meals :dance3: So here is hoping for room discounts pixiedust:

Has anyone stayed in room 1501? I would think that may be the nosiest room location.;)

My daughter and I stayed in Room 1501 during our recent trip to WDW. We were there August 2 - 13th of this year.

Noise? Not too bad. We'd sometimes hear people walking by our room, but the way the room is designed, the door is a bit away from the bed. It's a suite, so the door is in a hallway...that leads to the sofa/sitting area...and the bedroom actually faces the lagoon.

I loved how close this room was to Epcot.

I HATED how far away this room was to the bus stops and to the CL. You couldn't just "run" over to the CL for a quick snack or drink - it was a destination.

I also learned to not hang the "Privacy" hanger on the doorknob. Every time we did that, we guaranteed ourselves to be subjected to knocking on our door. If we left the hanger off, it would be quiet. Probably just kids, but still... a bit aggravating.

Well, I can't keep up with this thread. I normally just lurk, but 4 days without checking it and there's like 20 extra pages with pics of Teena reading the phone book :lmao:, MM's explanation of insulation with phone books :rotfl2: and construction workers having noodle fights. :rotfl:

Anyways, we're less than 3 weeks away (where's the emoticon for OH YEAH! when you need it). Maybe this one :woohoo: or this one :yay: or :cheer2: ::yes:::dancer::jumping1::banana:

So, for those just back, what is the latest on when does the construction move to YC? Luckily, my kids don't nap anymore, so if there's construction, it won't completely mess our touring plans.

The construction (as of Friday) was in the front. I was told that after they complete the front, they move to the YC, but I don't know if that's true or not. I was also told they expected to be done around the front entrance by Monday (tomorrow). When they were actually on our balcony working, we closed the drapes and the guy on our balcony was singing ... he was good too. Bob said it was better than TV. They stop before 5 PM so we only knew they were there when we got back from the pool before 5 to change. We were in our room at 9 AM and they weren't doing anything. I was under the impression they started around 9 AM though. If you stood out front, it was a tad noisey but the actual construction noise wasn't bad at all from our room ... we could hardly hear it over the singing.
