2011 Yacht & Beach Club FAQ, Part III- DO NOT POST HERE- Summer/Fall

Is there any construction going on at the BC/YC this fall or winter?

Not sure if the work on the siding will be still going on in the fall or winter. The construction crews are working on small sections of the resort at a time, so they are moving frequently and it is tough to predict where they will be showing up.

Most reports have been that it is not been bothersome to guests, but if you have a room affected by the work outside, you can go to the front desk to see if they are able to switch you to another room. If there is availability the folks at the front desk will do their best to make you happy.

In the winter, parts of the Stormalong Bay pool will undergo routine maintenance- From my understanding, usually 1/3 of the pool will be shut down at a time while work proceeds but the rest of the pool will be open.

I'm guessing that work on SAB does not start until January. Anyone know if that is a correct assumption?

In past years, the SAB rehab usually starts around 1/5 and you are correct, it is normally done one-third of the pool at a time.

And strawberry shortcake from Sunshine Seasons counts as a fruit!

I like the way you think!!!!:cheer2::yay:

So, I am getting ready to leave in...11days:banana::banana::banana:
I just rearranged some of my ADR's:headache: I had to drop Yachtsman cause I wanted to change one of my days around and they had nothing available:sad2:
So, my question is how is Captain's Grille? I booked it anyways but wondering what everyone's thoughts are. Yes, I know it's not YS but I figure all the more reason to come back, right:rolleyes1 And I shouldn't be eating red meat as my DH tells me all the time cause some people think it causes cancer and with having breast cancer and all...boy do I miss it too :sad1: ... Oh well, what can you do.
I also had to do a few late reservations, hopefully they can take us early on some. We usually get lucky. TIA

I love Capitan's Grill. I highly recommend trying it out. The chef came out to our table in April to make sure everyone was satisfied. The blueberry/cherry cobbler for dessert was outstanding and I am usually a chocolate dessert eater.

For our family of four we take a smaller suitcase and fill it with food. Which usually consits of poptarts, the individual boxes of cereal, bag cereal (with a small hole in it so it doesn't explode on the plane), granola bars, and rice krispie treats if they are on sale. The idea of oatmeal is great one :thumbsup2, I think I will pack some when we go in Dec.

We are getting excited to go we have 93 more days. The kids still don't know and we are going to use MM's idea of Tink visiting. Althought DS (14) might be a hard sale:confused3 but then again he'll be going to WDW:banana:. I know we haven't even gone on this years trip but we are already planning on our next Dec 2013 BC CL, an after deployment vacay!!!:woohoo: This will be our first time doing CL and we are hoping we can make it work. :confused3

Just made my final payment. Will be arriving at BC on 10/22. Woooo Hooooo. :cool1:

Next to actually leaving for Disney, this has to be the greatest feeling in the world.

I LOVE the Captain's Grille! We had Breakfast and lunch there and both were awesome! You will not be disappointed (unless you are looking for a phonebook ;))

Now for your son you have to think about a connection between what he is interested in and what is available at WDW.

For instance if it's music maybe Aerosmith could throw down the gauntlet and challenge him to ride the Rock and Roller coaster. If it's food perhaps Sonny Eclipse could throw down a burger challenge. If he doesn't know who Sonny Eclipse is then all the better. You could leave him clues and he would have to find him. If your son is being teenager-ish and doesn't want to play then torment him anyway with the clues and then stop by Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe in the Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland for a burger and try to catch him smiling when he see the big guy live and in person.

So make a connection and go from there. It doesn't have to be an exact match to his interests and...... if you point him in a direction that he didn't know existed (but would like in some way) you might be able to make it fun for him.

Good Luck!

PS. With Sonny Eclipse..... his eyebrows are OUTTA THIS WORLD!

Thank you and good luck with your teen. If he doesn't get with the program perhaps you should get him a room in the Tower and see how he shapes up after that!
:hmghost:

Another idea is to leave this pin for him that night (around $7 on ebay) and see what he does...

We ate at the Captain's Grille on our arrival night last year. We really liked it!
And it doesn't get much easier to get there when you are staying at the Yacht or Beach Club!

Here is the review of our dinner, with pictures of course, from my trip report last year.

EPCOT and Captain’s Grille http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=38209501&postcount=201

I might need to book Captain's Grille for our trip too. The pics look so good.

Our first night is Super Bowl Sunday. I bet we end up with room service. Unless there is a better suggestion. I am not sure about ESPN with a 8 year old.

just wanted to see my ticker - cause 4 weeks from today we will be on our way to wdw (one night at ASSp before checking in to YC CL)

Read other bashing thread but didn't comment cause I am not sure what the censorship rules were here ;) - not really

We have stayed CL at BC and BWI - we enjoyed both for different reasons . This year we are trying YC so that can we have stayed at all the EPCOT area resorts. Can't wait!

Wow MM....You are the first person I ever heard of with a :lovestruc crush :lovestruc on Sonny. Does the hubby know?

Never mind Hubby! Matthew McConaughey is going to be Jealous if he finds out about Sonny! :crowded:

PS. You gotta love a man in dire need of manscaping!

Oh my gosh! This is a very happening thread! I appreciate all of the great suggestions for breakfast. Usually, we do pack granola bars for most mornings as my kids are ride fanatics. They are literally pint sized commandos! I had a hectic day at work so this was my first chance to check in.

While we do like the granola/pop tart fare, one or two days out of the trip we like to change it up a little and you guys have me drooling with the food talk and pictures. I love the strawberry shortcake at Sunshine Seasons! I like the ease of YC's Ale and Compass, but I also like the thought of all the quick grabs in Epcot the night before.

You guys and gals are the best! :thumbsup2

For the record, I love the YC/BC, though I have only had the opportunity to stay at the YC for one night, I am going to rectify that in December. The ease of access to Ecpot and DHS in terrific! I cancelled the Poly for the YC/BC. I can't wait for my kids to see the BC carousel and the YC train set! :santa:

Thanks Dee! Those pictures were amazing...I can't wait to eat there our first night then head up and go to bed...maybe?
MM, No we won't need a phonebook. I have no use for them. I am on vacation and using Disney Transportation. No need to "prank" anyone, unless...Oh forget, I heard there was no phonebooks anyways:lmao:

We check in a day after you! Can't wait! We stayed at Beach Club in October 2008 and it was unseasonably cold - we were in sweatshirts the whole week and couldn't swim. Then we stayed in January 2011 and it was predictably cold, though we did manage to get into SAB the afternoon of the half marathon when it was almost tolerably warm out. The sand felt great on our feet after running! But I'm so excited to be going down at a time of year when we should actually be able to swim!
