I totally agree with this advice. I think there are very very few and I'm not sure which ones are at club level and which are not, but I don't think you need to specifically request "private balcony". Only one slight alteration to the above suggestion- when you checkin, ask if you have a private balcony, before even taking your keys- in the unlikely event that you do have a shared balcony, ask for a room change.

Go through the regular checkin instead of the advanced on-line checkin which is designed for people who will just grab their keys and go.
Thanks Dee!!!!:goodvibes

I am trying to work my way through this thread, and I'm around page 83, but I have a quick question I hope someone can answer and I hope hasn't been asked too too much already ...

Does anyone know what our odds might be off a king room with a daybed at a BC standard view? It's DH and I with our DD who will be 4, and that would be our ideal arrangement.

I don't know the answer to your questions, but what I do know is that there are not many king beds in the whole resort. Most of the rooms have two queens and some have 2 queens and a daybed ("guaranteed" for parties of 5 people over age 3) and a request for everyone else.

Based on that, I think the odds are not great!

I'm not sure if they would put a family of 3 in a room with a king, but another possibility is to request a room with a king bed and ask for a rollaway cot.

Thanks! I do know that just because it's listed as one of the room types on the Disney site ... doesn't mean it even really exists! I also know from experience to keep room requests simple, so I'll just work on prioritizing.

My family and I are going to the YC this Aug. I have heard lots of good things but was hoping to get any insight from those on here who may have stayed there before (1st time for us). We have a 4 yr old daughter who is sooo looking forward to going.

She has been before but we stayed offsite. Will being onsight be significantly different? Last time I stayed onsight was back in the late 90's and I stayed at the allstars.

Any insight or tips would be appreciated,

Thanks

I have good news:yay: and bad news:sad1: The good news is, I WAS ACCEPTED INTO THE RN program at my school!! Bad news is, I have to re-plan whole vacation:eek: I totally did not expect to be accepted, they had 700 applications for 41 spots:scared1: So now we will have to go at the end of July. Is it horribly crowded at the end of July, early August? I HAVE to go to Disneyworld this year!:worship:

Congrates on being accepted to Nursing School. :thumbsup2

I went the first week in August, yes it was hot and it rained for a bit each afternoon but if you split up your day with a mid-day break it is not too bad at all. Going back to the parks at night is nice after the sun had gone down and since the parks hours are longer in summer it is all good. As far as being crowded I honestly do not remember so it could not have been to crowded or it would have stuck out in my mind I think

Congrats. And answers to your questions... YES! Crowded and HOT. But remember that the parks are open later and utilize your EMHs. We always go in summer. Have to because I refuse to take my kids out of school and the breaks are not enough time for us.

You're going to have an AMAZING time!!! Staying onsite, especially at a deluxe within walking distance of a park, will be tremendously different than staying offsite! Epcot is practically out the back door of the BC/YC.... we love to stroll in at night for dinner w/ our park hoppers and grab a bite in the World Showcase. DHS is also walking distance, though further away (20 min from the YC walking). You can also take the ferry to DHS or Epcot.

We'd been many times to the YC/BC, but the first time we took our girls, they were 2 and 4. The pool @ the YC/BC is awesome. They practically lived in the kiddie area and used the complimentary swim vests.

We always take a mid-day break in the summer and go back to the resort to swim, and then back into the parks @ night. It's just so convenient with the Disney transportation. The longest bus ride though is the one to DTD.... so we rarely go there. Everything else though is pretty efficient. :goodvibes

Hope you have a fantastic time!!!

I'm in the planning stages of our next Beach Club vacation and would love to know this info too!

We currently have a garden view CL room booked, and I was wondering where these rooms are located? Are they all facing the courtyard/gardens on the lake side, or are some of them on the entrance side? Do most of these rooms have a full balcony, or is it 50-50? We usually prefer to be near the lounge - doesn't have to be right next door, but we like being in the vicinity. Is this feasible if I request a full balcony?

I can vouch for 5636 club level but what I have read, your odds of getting a specific room is slim. Better to ask for characteristics of a type of room that you would like such a full balcony, near elevators, etc.

I would agree with this. A few (?-with the way this thread moves, it could be more than a few) pages back someone posted an older map of the BC. It seems to be pretty accurate still and you could use that to figure out guidelines for a room. As the Unofficial Guide says, you shouldn't request a specific room because if it is unavailable the room assigners have no idea why you picked it or what feature is most important to you so can't assign you anything with those choices.

I have to agree. Do not ask for a specific room put in a request "close to SAB" if that is what your looking for. Or "Full balcony" as not all BC rooms have full balcony some have just a standing one...I believe almost are half are standing & the others are full.
Here is a link to look at the maps for how the rooms are but it is older so room categories are not the ones written, but you can tell what would be considered Garden, Standard or Lagoon view. I am guessing you are staying at BC. First is BC second link is YC for anyone that needs it. Just remember the room cat. are different now.

We just returned from our wonderful BC stay and had two rooms (one for 5 days on CL and then 1 Garden View room non-CL). I don't think I took a picture of the view from our first room but I do have one from the second. Here are descriptions and let me know if someone wants the second picture to catalog.

Our CL room was 5674 and it had a full balcony and a nice day bed. The view was out over the drop off/bus area and you could see a fountain. My son was excited he could see the buses, LOL, AND a fountain! At night if you leaned over the balcony and looked off in the distance you could see the Epcot Illumination FW that were high. I thought it was a very nice room and not to far from the lounge or elevators. The view wasn't bad for a standard view. :)

Our second room was room 4549 and was booked as a Garden View but it might have been an upgrade to a Water view. It overlooked the quiet pool and the Boardwalk was off in the distance. It was a beautiful view!! Full balcony and a smaller type day bed/couch (not the big one like the first room). I loved the view in this room and it was quick access to Epcot although far from the elevators to the lobby. I do have a picture of this room if needed.

We had an awesome vacation! We are happy to be home but will one day return to the BC.:lovestruc

Oh, and we did not see any evidence of construction during our CL stay but we did hear the slight hum of equipment off in the distance during the afternoon. No sight or sound of construction during the evening. However, when we moved to the room overlooking the quiet pool they were working there and had equipment out during the day. Not loud or anything but you could hear the hum of generators and there were workers out there making everything look new again. In the evening they construction was not apparent. It wasn't bothersome to us though but we were only in this room a short time and didn't use the balcony.

In sum, my fear of the construction interfering with our vacation was unfounded. We had a wonderful stay and two nice rooms! Hope this helps anyone else who may be concerned. :flower3:

We have just booked our holiday for May 2012 at the YC standard view for 13 nights:cool1:
I was wondering if anyone could advise me on a good area to request view and peacefulness wise as we are there for quite a while.I have looked at the maps DOCCOC2002 sugessted to pp but i would love some personel experiences.Thank you x

What type of construction were they doing during the day by the quiet pool?

Thanks!!!!!!!!:goodvibes

Do they only do the special events the first weekend in December? I know my kids would love to do things like you said at the hotel. We are surprising them with this trip so the more we can surprise them the better!

Sorry if that's the way it sounded. The special events at the YC/BC usually start the first weekend of December (decorations are up by T-Day or shortly thereafter) and then continue the whole month. The week before Christmas the big-guy might even stop by and say hi although I've heard that he's been getting really busy lately so he may not have the time this year. If that's the case, and your kids want to say hi to the big guy, my personal recommendation is to stop by Canada and catch him there. I think he's the best of the group although I do like Norway's impish dwarf as well.

Be sure to check out the gingerbread houses that you can make in the BC lobby. I bet your kids would love to do something like that once you get home.

It's been a few years since we were at WDW at the end of July (did a land/sea combo with the Magic), but I can say that the from my personal experience, the crowds were not extreme. Follow a plan and you should be able to do everything you want to. It can be hot, but we were extremely lucky that year with the weather. Of course you will get the one-hour shower each afternoon but that is nothing that should slow you down. Congratulations on your acceptance into nursing school

Hove fun planning!

We were in 5668, and also found the view to be very nice considering it was standard!! Enjoyed the same fountain, and BCV view. (Love the color of BCV) It was just a hop, skip and jump from the lounge.......which means coffee was easily reached ;)

I'd like to chime in on this too. Go with your general request (close to SAB, close to lobby, not on (or on) ground floor/fourth floor, close to Epcot, away (or close) to elevator, full balconey (for those at the BC). Limit it to one or two requests (put most important first) and then hope for the best. As was previously said, get too specific (room # or floor location) and you are betting that someone there will be leaving the day you arrive which gives you only a one in seven chance (I can get better odds in Vegas).

Just remember, you are at the happiest place on the earth!

To tell you the truth, as long as you aren't going to be in one of the standard view rooms in the front of the YC overlooking the parking lot/bus stop, you should be okay. Unfortunately, with the new catagory structure I'm thinking that the standard rooms are all going to be there. I think you might be better off spending the extra $10 per day and asking for a GV if you are really interested in "peace and quiet". It seems at the YC, most the the rooms are either going to have a water view or a garden view if they aren't looking out on the parking lot. Of course there is that portion over by the S/D that faces away from the water but most of those are usually taken by the conventioners.
