You know....

I've been doing some 'thinking' and what ever outfit they make for Teena, we should make sure that one is made for Dee so when she posts and works on the board up-keep stuff she will have something "appropriate" to wear. After all it's Dee that puts the hustle in the bustle of the Beach Club thread!

We here on the Beach Club/ Yacht Club thread have our standards ya know!!

Well look on the bright side.... you can keep snacks in the hat and you can whap those annoying junior managers in the shins with the umbrella!

Listen, you'd look great in just about anything because it's your warm personality and your friendly smile that will shine through all the fabric they can wrap you up in!

Don't worry it will be ok. We'll let you know if we can't tell its you under the costume!

MM - Well put! Although, I do appreciate the humor you inject into this site. Thank you for the :rotfl:!

Teena - Surely they wouldn't do anything too embarrassing but I am looking forward to your update. On our last trip to the BC I think I saw you from a distance but we were in a hurry and I was with a lot of extended family so I didn't stop. Hopefully I will see you again the first week of June when we check it over there. I'll have to get up the courage to approach and say "hi" though. It is not in my nature to do so and I wouldn't want you to think I'm some scary stalker, LOL. :upsidedow

Teena - It was great to finally meet you last week. I wanted to post sooner, but I've been so busy since my DH and I got home.

Our stay at BCV was great as usual. There were a few minor maintenance issues but my DH and I never sweat the small stuff. One of the issues couldn't be resolved until we checked out but it didn't affect our stay at all. We had fantastic meals at Citricos, California Grill, Flying Fish, Yachtsman, Artist Point and Narcoose. I'm already planning our next BCV stay (May 2012) and will be booking it in a few weeks.

Congratulations to your DD & Happy Birthday to you!!! party: party: :bday:

How did I get dragged into this mess!?!

Sorry, Victorian isn't my era. I occasionally have to wear Colonial outfits when I am working. I am a museum teacher (very very part time) with Historic New England. And I honestly don't think I have any photos I can post!

The costume woman said something like long dress with big hat and umbrella ????

She said it was what they wore in 1900-1905 at a beach resort.
Looking good!! :rolleyes1

Just lucky, I guess!

These costumes are hysterical. Good luck Teena on whatever the costume outcome may be. Everyone have a great weekend, busy weekend of our household:baseball tournament for my 11 year old son on Saturday and Sunday. Of course we are Mother Natures beck and call and the tournament may not happen as they are talking rain. Only in Chicago do we go from 90/80 degrees to 50 degrees overnight!!!!

Nannette--Thank you so much. I got the pin today. I can't wait for our trip.

Teena--Can't wait to see the new costume!

Well wishes for everyone else!

Great idea :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Teena can't wait to hear about the costume tomorrow :banana::banana:

When we stayed at the Poly, this was our morning routine:

I would get an early wake up call, shower and change, then hit Captain Cooks for Coffee, Tea, and breakfast for everyone. I would go back to the room, wake everyone up to breakfast, and they would eat and change while I enjoyed my tea on the balcony. The, off to rope drop. I loved it.

But our next stay will be at the Beach Club. From what I understand, counter service is a little more of a challenge.

Any suggestions?

We do place an order with Garden Grocer, so we could probably go the donut/pop tart/ muffin route.

But where do I get my tea?? (I know there are coffee machines in the room, and I suppose I could bring an electric kettle-- I hate tea from a coffee machine!) Is it worth it to buy the refillable mugs? Or is it easier than what I've interpreted from what I've read??

Uggh! Tea brewed in the room coffee maker is beyond horrid!!! I learned that lesson the last time I stayed at POFQ. I plan on bringing my (gotta love this name) "Mr. Coffee" iced tea maker and my favorite P & G tea tips for brewing in the room. I have to drink a ton of fluids and my home made Iced Tea does the trick rather nicely.

The refillable mugs come with our package (the Gluttonous dining plan) but for me to have to deal with those little half an ounce Disney mugs is completely impractical when I am drinking 64 ounces or more a day. I'd have to live in the refill station for Pete's sake!!

So with the refillable mugs, you have to take into consideration all the trips back and forth to the market for a refill. This is not something I treasure doing at 6:30 am with morning breath and bed head. At that hour I am running into way too many of those perky, early morning types that pass out at 7:00 pm the night before and wake up refreshed and ready to go. I probably won't be civil until we're on a boat or a bus and the caffeine has hit the brain cells.

Nope. I think I'll do the world a favor and brew in my room so nobody get to see the transformation from Ms. Hyde to Dr. Jeckyll.

Hi Alice!

This is very similar to our routine! We stayed at the Poly in January and I really do love Captain Cook's! For our February BC stay, we were in a CL room so we used the lounge. But all of our previous BC stays were non-CL.

So here's what we do for the non-CL BC stays: On check-in day, we stop by the BC Marketplace and get donuts, cereal, juice, milk, fruit, etc. to keep in the room. I run to BC Marketplace at 6:30am when they open the refill mug section. (The rest usually opens at 7am if you want breakfast sandwiches or other hot items.) Some days, we stop at Boardwalk Bakery on the way to DHS - we take breakfast to go and it keeps the kids occupied while we're waiting to enter the park at rope drop.

Light breakfast has worked for us in the past because we usually have lunch ADRs around 11:30am. We've made exceptions to the light breakfast rule for character breakfasts at Ohana, Cape May and Tusker House!

Refillable mugs - I love them. I love the early morning coffee crowd at BC Marketplace and the mugs are really convenient for soda at SAB (especially now that they have the self-serve refill station there.) I didn't buy a refill mug in February at first because we were in a CL room and we could get coffee/soda from the lounge. On our second day, I bought one anyway - and usually filled it with the coffee in the lounge! I take the mug to the park and stash it in the stroller when I finish my coffee. When we don't bring the stroller anymore . . . well, that's just one more use for my ziplock bags! I'll toss it in a ziplock and put it in my backpack.

As for the tea, I'm not sure. But I think they have hot water and tea bags at the beverage station.

We booked and already paid for our August trip!

We are staying at the Yacht Club- standard view- club level from
August 16th-23rd.

We are very excited. I had a garden view booked, but upgraded just last week to club level. I have returned the questionairre to the IPO just this morning.

What can we look forward to and how bad will our view be?

It will be about six months before I actually get to be in the new "period costume". They have to submit the drawings (plural) for approval, then get the final one made, then fitted, etc. In the meantime, I will have pants instead of a skirt (once the pants get hemmed) and the same blazer, blouse and tie.
